Big John, only problem is that USA titles are NTSC TV format and in Europe you have the PAL TV format, so our games will not work on your consoles. :(
Same goes for Japan, they also use the NTSC signal, unless you have a way of getting around the format differences.
My friends in Germany also have this problem and I always have to tell them to buy the banned titles (in Germany) from the UK (where they are not banned), as the UK & Germany have the same TV signal format.

HD is universal, NTSC and PAL is only for SD signals.

Also, most TV's in the UK have been able to display both formats for the last few years :)

My TV does all digital HD up to 1080i (it was cheap), plus both PAL and NTSC on the analogue side :)

Prince of Persia due to be released tonight - remake of the classic for 360 and PS3 - got to be a buy. I was addicted to that game back around 1990 :)

Jerry, I used to love battle tanks - with the special viewing periscope thing? Takes me back :)

Kim, Tanks is not as a good as:

Pocket Tanks!

Thanks for taking the time to explain that to me furie.
I knew that PS3s are region free (which has nothing to do with the TV signal format), but didn't know that HD is universal. I'm also aware that HD TVs handle both formats (as my plasma does), but I didn't know that most standard UK TVs do as well. I am now enlightened...thank you very much.

New Tomb Raider comes out next month. Can't <img src='http://www.coasterforce.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_censored.gif' /> wait. :D

I'm quite looking forward to that one too actually. The footage i've seen so far is amazing. Just hope the game play is as exciting, which it probably will be!

GH:WT releases tomorrow and I'm picking it up on the way home from SFGAdv. Can't wait to try out the new hardware as I put off buying the new gear for Rock Band 2 (I've been playing it will the original RB hardware). I think the GH hardware is finally supposed to be compatable with RB2, so it will be great to actually be able to compare the two.

The GH:WT hardware works fine with Rock Band2 (on my 360), but the drum kit is a bit difficult to adapt to (better off using the original RB one). Overall I like GH:WT, but RB2 is better as far as game play and the way the songs feel & are presented. Plus, where's the solo tour mode in GH:WT? They have a solo quick play, but no solo career. :(
I also don't like the way each player has to setup a band before they can play. GH:WT is slightly harder to play in that the difficulty settings are a bit tougher than those for RB2. I actually had to start playing the drums on easy (which is more like medium on RB2) and the medium guitar setting for GH:WT is harder than the same setting on RB2, but not as difficult as the 'hard' setting. I'll have to work my way up to see how the hard & expert (yeah right) settings compare, but I imagine that they balance out on the tougher difficulty settings.
Anyway, I've only scratched the surface and perhaps my opinion will change as I progress through the game. But for now I have to give the edge to Rock Band2, by a fairly good margin.

I know there are probably some people on here that will be able to help me make an informed decision here, so that's why I'm asking.

FIFA 09 or PES 2009?

Everywhere I've looked on the net seems to have 50/50 views on them. What are the key differences, and what is everybody else going for?

Lain. I've only played the demo of Fifa but have got the full game of Pes 2009.

Fifa seems more innovative, I've never really liked the fact you have to use the analog sticks though to move around, but in turn the analog sticks give the gameplay a bit more freedom too.

The only reason I went for PES is because I'm a fan of the PES series, (except last years that was woeful) and I like PES 2009 because its classic PES gameplay and just isn't generally dog turd.

However, if you're not a fan of anything in particular, from an unbiased view I'd probably recommend Fifa, as their online is better and they have the licenses, and as I said, the gameplay has mroe freedom but its just something I personally dislike.

Shall be asking Mark to preorder me copy of Left4Dead friday sometime. It's going to be good. Oh yes.

And purchasing Dead Space after hearing some lovely reviews about it (and it's not in the blind praise group of 9-10/10, either! 8.8/10 on metacritic ftw.)

Oh, and I just realised something. Clam[/possibly furie?], you're not fond of games with a focus on storytelling, when the game leaves gameplay behind, yes?

So, surely LittleBigPlanet is the opposite? You wonder what the game is actually like, yet, if the gameplay is solid, then why worry? Content will be created by its users (aside from the fact that it does in fact have an entire single player mode of something like 50 levels...)

It's also narrated by Stephen Fry. I don't think it gets much better than that, frankly :p

Unfortunately, that has a score higher than 9/10, and thus I'm wary of how good it actually is.

Tempted by Far Cry 2, Mirror's Edge and Fallout 3, too.
