It'll work great on fright nights, but i'm dubious about it at other times. Saw is a fine name, just not a fan of the film connection.

Agreed. I can picture when it's opening and I decide to go on Saw. The name is a nice name and fits in with the surrounding are as well as the theme that the coaster carries. :)

News story about the ride.

The horror movie franchise Saw has not only become a staple at cinemas since the 2004 original's release, but it has now spawned it's own rollercoaster ride at Britain's Thorpe Park.

Saw: The Ride, which opens at the theme park in Surrey venue next March, will see riders face a terrifying and record breaking 100ft vertical freefall plummet. The films are based on ingenious traps laid out by sadistic serial killer Jigsaw (played by Tobin Bell). He punishes his victims because they have led questionable lives.

It's to be the first rollercoaster to be based on a horror movie. In a statement, Lionsgate (who produce the films) said, "Saw – The Ride is a reflection of how thoroughly the Saw franchise has crossed over into pop culture at large. We are delighted to be working with Thorpe Park to continue that expansion with the scariest ride in the world.”

Saw V will be released in cinemas on October 24.

I like the name Saw, but I aam another of those who hate "the ride" added at the end, I like the idea though, like the chainlift and drop look abit like a Saw I suppose, but we are probably going to see a torture house theme other than a mine theme, even if it is what it looks like on the plans.

Seriously, you guys moan about some incredibly stupid <img>.

And you don't moan about the fact it might not have airtime?

To be fair, I think a ride not having airtime is more important than it having "The Ride" stuck on the end of it's name.

I lol at Thorpe though. Flamingo Land ftw.

Oh I was at Thorpe today with Ben and noticed that they've started to add cladding to the station box.

People have been saying how the 'saw' (the circular saw in the concept art) is nothing to do with saw, but if you look at the poster for Saw V, that saw is clearly part of the film:

If you think of it as "The Ride" might as well be another installment in the film series, it's not relevant that saws have nothing to do with the current Saw films. If one of the films was set at a logging mill, you can bet that there would be some horrific deaths caused by traps involving logging saws. The concept of traps can easily be applied to say... Being restrained to logs (the cars?)

You've all gone past my level of depressing negativity and plummeted into the realm of needlessness. People are just being ****ing retarded with their complaints now.

I don't know if this has already been posted...I know Ian posted the press release but I don't know if this was included...

"Attention to detail will be obvious throughout the ride, and the creative team are working very hard on bringing the film to life through theming, including a unique queue line experience which will help guests immerse themselves into the story and build up their apprehension and excitement. Located next to Colossus and Samurai, SAW - The Ride will include 30% of the ride time within a building designed to look like an abandoned sawmill...where a number of surprises lie in wait. By combining this indoor element and the queue line experience with: the 100ft vertical lift and 100º drop; the three inversions; the inter-relationship of the ride with Logger's Leap, Samurai and Canada Creek Railway; and the fact the area is enclosed by woodland, it has enabled us to create a greater ride experience."

Honestly, I think the name sucks.

Hope the themeing will make up for it.

And the ride looks good already.

Although, i do love Saw films.

Meh.

We'll see, eh.

I'm curious as to how long this name will stay.

This kind of movie or theme doesn't have the staying power as something like a Batman or Superman. After a few years, I'm curious to see if the name gets changed and they move to just a general horror type ride with no movie connection. That, and they may not renew the contract to use the movie name.

I still kind of think this isolates a large majority of the population who find the movies, but hopefully the theming will be quality enough for people to ignore that.

Wasnt I right that it would be called Saw?
I like how everybody is bashing it just because of its name and how everybody is "in 10 years nobody will remember the saw films" So not true! The SAW franchise is the largest Horror franchise in history, larger than Scream and even Halloween!

If the contract runs out they will probably just call it SAW and have no connection to the movie at all.

^ A while back in the topic I guessed it would be Saw aswell. XD Anyway I'm still excited about this and don't mind the name at all.

Yeah, I don’t read too much into that. All that means is what we knew beforehand – that there’s a somewhat large pre-lift section. Somehow I don’t expect a whole lot.
Yeah, I agree... Two of those "number" of suprises we know about. That drop and that inline.

well, I'm sorry to come in here and piss all over the ****ing doom and gloom that you lot seem to be thriving on so much...

but, I've just watched the youtube video and... I'M SO ****ING EXCITED!

I couldn't give a flying **** about the Saw films - I don't do horror, and I've never seen any of the franchise, and don't know anything about the films at all. But... the suspense and theming in the video is just so ****ing cool! This has really renewed my excitement for the film, and now I desperately can't wait to ride it!

So yeah, stuff your moaning - get excited! :D

This topic grew eight pages since I looked yesterday evening.

I thought £35 was a bit too expensive for the Saw quadrilogy today. It was WHSmiths after all though.

The head chopper was mentioned a while ago. There are construction plinths at the side of the drop for something. So I’m confident that it’s still in the plan.

^ I'm with The Vadge...but maybe not as excited as she was..had to pry her off her chair...not pretty..

Nah Seriously, if they actually put some money and effort behind the theming I think it'll be ****ing awesome!! Its got some great potential....lets just they don't screw it up..cos then it would look awful...I think its gonna be that if they pull it off it'll look great but if they don't it'll be absolutely awful.
