To be honest - I think it looks brilliant. Though I do notice @Trax's comments - I'm hoping just 'GoPro shake' and maybe some bedding in. Really hoping, at least.

Never have, hard to imagine I ever will. I average <1 Merlin Park visit per year, so it would be entirely pointless.

Ooh carbon fibre...? Feels a bit unnatural that. The failure modes of carbon fibre always give me the heebie-jeebies, especially on things like this. Trust the engineers, I suppose.

My impression was that it was possibly just a plinth for the foundations/footers, similar to the flat-spots in the hillside underneath the uphill section. It's hard to tell from that picture - the angle and resolution is a bit tricky to interpret.
