Death Proof.

Awful.

I blame America for making them split Grindhouse up.

It was dull. Nothing happened. The only good bit was when the first load of girls crash.

And what was with the two totally different sets of characters?

*SPOILERS*

He sets all these characters up, and then they die, and we're back at square one? WHY?!?!

Silly Tarantino.

Why not?

It's playing on ideas of the genre.. because you've gotten to know them - therefor they must be the heroines and therefor at least one of them must survive.

But he's going against the genre.

Imagine how much better starship troopers would've been if every one of the main characters DID get killed on the first planet trip...

etc etc

Which is great, but then you're left with a film where you don't care about what happens. What's the point in establishing characters through all this dialogue, if they're not even used? That, to me, stank of "I IS TARANTINO, I WILL WRITE AS MUCH DIALOGUE AS I CAN TO SHOW YOU I IS COOL" (which I could have lived with if it was good dialogue like Pulp and Dogs have, but it was pointless relationship crap. Noone cares).

So, you're left with pretty much a film where you don't care what happens to anyone. I would have cared if it had been at least one of the first girls to go back for him at the end. And that would have given more... sense to the revenge. If I'd written it, I'd have had the lap-dance girl survive (say she ends up shagging a guy, and thus staying somewhere else), and then 14 months later, she's with these girls (replace Lee, she was pointless).

And on the topic of genre, why did he make it as this awesome, Grindhouse flick, which really, really worked in the first half, I put aside the fact the actresses sucked and the dialogue was worse, because the style was cool. Then, randomly, the second half just loses all this. Apart from, the black and white section, which then doesn't fit because the film is "modern".

Imagine how much better starship troopers would've been if every one of the main characters DID get killed on the first planet trip...

etc etc

I've not seen it, lol. I know, I'm awful.

Yeah I was a bit wtf with the whole Death Proof thing. I think its actually better if you've seen a grindhouse or 'B' movie (BBC 4 have a season on B movies at the mo) as you know why it was made the way it was. I still think its a good film but because Americans are dumb when it comes to seeing films at the cinema it loses out because it is 20 million time better as part of 'Grindhouse'. I have seen both versions and although in the proper gritty grindhouse version half the dialog is cut it makes it more amusing and you kinda understand the randomness of what he was trying to create. Planet Terror just kicked ass, definitely the better film of the two.

I saw Fight Club yesterday.

Starring Brad Pitt as a soap salesman and Edward Norton as an officer-worker, who team up to form what they simply called "Fight Club". They then start to do acts of vandalism and such.

Excellent film. It wasn't disturbing, it was just intense and provided a pretty strong atmosphere around me. Definitely unique, so I'd highly recommend this.

10/10.

You broke the first rule, and spoke about Fight Club ;)

Chicago

Got it for a buck, how could I go wrong? Overall I quite liked it, but Roxie got a bit annoying at times. I loved Catherine Zeta-Jones in this, but I dunno, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was pretty good, but I was kinda hoping one of them would be hanged, like Roxie for example. Some of the songs kept going on and on though, but like, there were some that were really good like the one with all the jail chicks.

You realise that other then Cell Block Tango (the "one with all the jail chicks), none of the songs are at all long, apart from maybe All That Jazz. So, you complain that they're long, and then pick out the one that's about twice as long as the rest as one you like.

Oh, and if Roxie had died, the entire point of the film/show would have been lost. It's about how fame and the media are used and the public is manipulated in order to allow people to get away with murder (hence, Razzle Dazzle and the tag-line "With the right song and dance, you can get away with murder"). Had Roxie died, this whole critical social comment would have been lost, and then the show/film becomes basically pointless.

Oh, and go see the show, it's SO much better, and one of the best out there.

And I watched Aliens today to get over the bad taste Death Proof left in my mouth. Not as good as the first one, but probably the best sequel I've ever seen. The effects for 20 years ago and rubber suits were brilliant, you cared about the characters, and so when they started to die, you were actually bothered.

Although the very last bit was so unrealistic, she'd have never survived that air-lock thing.

Yeah, but All That Jazz and the one in the courtroom were rather annoying, but like I said, overall it was a good movie.

And yes I realize the point would be lost if Roxie died, but there were times in the movie I was hoping she would get killed because she got annoying.

Gonna have to wait until that one comes to Detroit. Wicked is the next one I'm seein though, and I have no idea when Chicago is coming.

South Park: Bigger Longer Uncut

Seen this movie so many times now and know it more or less word for word. Still makes me laugh and has a huge re-watchability factor. :p

Wow, Smelly, I actually concur with the point you are making about some films! They are both excellent films, very re-watchable but they lack something towards the end.

About the whole Chicago thing, I've not seen the film (yet) but have seen it on stage twice, I found it rather lame and boring at the theater, I suppose its a love/hate thing. I do like some parts but the second half just felt like the first half but more dull.

Watched Cloverfield again today. (Yes I love this film). :p
I find it highly re-watchable and it's still really enjoyable each time.
Still a 10. :D

Oceans Thirteen

Finally saw the final of the series, after seeing the other two, I liked it. It wasn't overly complex but lacked in a real fantastic ending like the first two. It wasn't really as 'shocking' as the others tbh.

I just watched Cloverfield. Pretty good film when you have the volume up really high and 3 base speakers ;)

I found it really good. But the ending was just... poor! We just sat there thinging there would be more, but no. So really **** ending but the rest was brilliant :D

9.5/10.

My boyfriend won tickets from Myspace for us to go to this sponsored screening of Prince Caspian so we popped down to Leicester Square last night to see that.

It's pretty much on par with the first of the Narnia films, same stuff, same quality of acting, same quality of graphics. If I didn't know any better, I'd say same film but yno, I do.

Fun, bit long but easy to watch nonetheless.

6/10

(Eddie Izzard does a good bit in it too)

I'm the wrong person to ask. I'm a MAJOR batman comic book nerd.

I'll be sat in the theatre with a long raincoat on and a packet of tissues.

That said, what i REALLY want to see in the theatre is a movie rendition of "Batman - Dark Knight Returns" (the best graphic novel ever made.. REALLY recommend reading it!).

Clint eastwood would've been perfect in the role a few years back, but he's too old now.. so i'm thinking along lines of harrison ford.. And jessica alba as robin - Dunno who i'd get to play the old joker/superman though.

And jessica alba as robin

Robin... Is a girl? Are you serious? Like, the Batman and Robin type of Robin?

If she is, that's messed. I never knew that.

The Flock

Never heard of it, but it was actually good. It was a suspense type of thriller kind of, and the storyline always kept you guessing and was pretty exciting.

That's all I have to say, really.

In later books (After the first robin dies).. yes.

She's a school girl, and batmans a dirty old man in his 70s/80s.

If you want a good graphic novel to read, give it a go.. "Batman : Dark Knight Returns"

Find out how the batman saga ends...
