^I saw them live at Summer Of Sonic last year! They're pretty damn awesome, and they're really down to earth too. They played 'Live and Learn', 'Never Turn Back', 'What I'm Made Of' and 'Open Your Heart'. It was a total Sonic nerd overload, ha! The event's happening again this year in London, and Crush 40 said they'd be there again...it's free, so I'd go if I were you!

You're right though, they do amazing metal music <3

Continuing with the rock/metal theme, I’d like to recommend Glamour of the Kill. You probably haven’t heard of them, nobody ever has lol. Although, they have a full album out now, so have been played on Kerrang a few times. My friend introduced me to them a few years back and I’ve seen them live four times now. They put on a really good show. Plus because they’re not a big band, it’s usually about £7 to get in! If you like BFMV, then chances are you will like them, they are very similar.

This first track is from their original EP and the second is their first single from their latest album.

^Ahhh, so nice to see the popular trend of pop and indie is being broken - awesome! Anyway, funnily enough, I HAVE heard of Glamour Of The Kill...a lot of my friends talk about them and they get bigged up in Kerrang a lot. I don't think I've actually ever heard their stuff before, but if you say the BFMV similarity is there then I'll check out the songs you posted :)

^ It is nice isn't it lol. Yeah they have been in Kerrang a lot recently. Due to having a new album out, before that they just had a couple of EPs. I think they're brilliant. But yeah, check them out, see what you think.

I was about to bite your head off for that. Then I saw it was Enter ****kari. So I agreed instead.

As for Glamour of the Kill, I played a couple of tracks and wasn't impressed - musically I can hear the BFMV influence, but they also have one of those WHINY singers that seem to be everywhere at the moment getting up my nose, and he grated severely. Yeah, Matt Tuck reaches a whine from time to time (Hearts Burst Into Fire, anyone?), but... no.

Enter Shikari's first album Take to the Skies will always be a teenage anthem (yes the whole album) for me, but the album Solidarity on is a crock of ****. It's so pretentious and preachy, let's save the earth with our ****ty music. Go die.

In fairness, if they were to do that, it would go a certain way towards saving the world.

Opeth at the Albert Hall has made a return to my speakers at a frankly obscene volume. There's a ****ing massive grin on my face again as a result.

P.J. Harvey's new album is excellent; best thing she's done in years.

That sounds fantastic, I've heard of the event but now knowing it's free that's a definate visit! Yeah I must agree I'm a bit of a Sonic nerd myself, shame they've lost their touch this generation, still doesn't stop me playing them they are all great games! Even Sonic The Hedgehog ('06) seemed underrated to me, I enjoyed playing through that just as much as I did with Sonic Adventure, it wasn't much of a break-through into the next-gen but glitches aside the game is great!

Meh, they had an awful attempt at a Maiden song which really put me off of them, I think it's a downer to think what todays music is coming to. BFMV on the other hand, they're not too bad, quite disappointed with their last album though. Hearts Burst into fire is probably their shining song, it's outstanding, and totally worth a listen to!

Now if you want some good metal in comparison... :)

Oh and if you like GOTK, I saw these a few months back I think you may like them. They're great guys as well, Jon bought me a pint because he drank half of mine on stage

Haha, Jordan Rudess with hair :) Definitely some of his finest moments on that album.
Yes, that's much more like it, consider yourself redeemed. I think I'm glad I've not met the Maiden cover as it's so unusual to find one of those that stands up to the original (even Dream Theater can't do it!).
I'd have to disagree on Bullet though, Hearts Burst Into Fire (and Forever and Always etc. along with it) was them trying to do a sentimental ballad and just ending up with something rather wet, so it was nice to have them back on usual rageful form with Fever, even if it can get a bit samey at times.

I'll give you that GOTKs cover of 2 Minutes to Midnight was pretty bad. But then again, like Will said, its pretty rare to find a cover of a Maiden song thats anywhere near as good as the original. I actually didn't mind Fever though. I thought it was a decent album, but some of the songs just sound too similar. I dont think they'll ever beat The Poison to be fair.

Bullets attempts at a ballad, such as Hearts Burst Into Fire, do work well live though. It is pretty epic when everybody is singing along, they seem to go down well.

Isn't it the only thing she's done in years?

She had an album out with John Parish about 18 months ago, and a solo album about a year before that. The new one is better than both of them though. Personally, I don't think she's done anything this good since Is This Desire in 1998.

That's the only one I can think of off hand. There's some great alternate versions of Hallowed Be Thy Name, but... the original is not to be touched. I might have to give the Poison a play later to see if I still think it's the best. The self-titled EP isn't bad either because of having Curses and Hand of Blood on, but I DO have to be in the mood.

I've never found myself majorly fond of BFMV really, I must admit they have some great songs but all in all they just seem a bit too over-rated. It's like me with Slipknot, I find myself chanting along to songs like Psychosocial and Duality, but I'm sick of people saying they're the best band in the world. Joey Jordison is a great drummer I must admit, he never ceases to wow me, in fact he's outstanding live, as a band they need to be taken with a pinch of salt, they come across extremely cheesey and anthemic.

I think my problem with Fever is the fact it's repetative, I just get bored listening through the album. Same thing goes for most of Dragonforce really, they're a great band at what they do but the interest value easily loses me when they start recycling riffs and solo's.

Within the topic of Iron Maiden covers, it's worth checking this one out, it's a good attempt in a very bizarre style, but sounds rather epic live. :)
