Last chance to see...

In the past few seasons (since I've been a enthusiast), we have seen a cull of some iconic coasters in the UK - Magnum and Bullet at FL, Cyclone at Pleasureland, Corkscrew at AT and err, Jizzly Bear at LWV.

If I was to put money on the next coasters to be removed, it would be Vampire, X:/NWO, Whirlwind (Camelot).

The reason that I do not inlcude any Blackpool coasters in that list is because That Thompson Woman is so unpredicatble, as far as I'm concerned, all the rides are on the endargered list.

I've not included any Euro or American parks on the list as I don't know enough about them. I also think that any Pinfaris and Schwarzkopf coasters should be looking over their shoulder. Although they are cheap (in relative terms) and easy enough to relocate to parks wanting a budget coaster, most are dated now and not a sound long term investment.

^ Blivvy?!? You having a laugh!!! One of the best UK rides! I can see an upgrade, but not getting ripped out. No B&M has ever been removed anywhere before.

Yes I am. Not that I don't like it, nor because it's old. Just seems pretty plain, pedestrian and not very popular. I've not seen/been in a queue for it that's been bigger than 10 minutes since 2000/1.

^There isn't ever a queue anymore you are right, but there is no chance it will be removed any time soon. It's still seen as an iconic coaster in the UK.

That's a blunt prediction. Oblivion won't be moving anywhere, and it's small queues are due to it's brilliant capacity. That also is another reason why a park like Alton wouldn't take away Oblivion.

Thats what I was going to say. Each car takes 16, two are loaded at a time, and two can be on the lift and turn at one time, on eat the edge, one going up, then there is always atleast one in the brake sections.

The only time they have had to send empty-ish trains because no one was on was late on during the last day of the season.

You're all lucky then! I keep getting held up in 30 - 60 minute queues! :lol:
(50th post! And I'm using it to complain about queues!)

With a capacity of 1900pph (probally max, so averaging 1700-ish pph) I think it would be hard to achive a queue! So you must be quite unlucky!

^I know throughout the summer holidays and yesterday there was no queue for it at all. It's the only coaster there which manages to maintain no queue at all because of it's capacity.

Ok, can we move away from Oblivion's queue times and back on topic please. Thanks.

actually, oblivion may be the perfect example of the second question of the topic; the only reason Oblivion seems past it's best is that at the moment, it is something of a one trick pony, and rather than being closed, as someone said, would be a prime candidate for an upgrade, say a loop on coming out of the tunnel, and a second deathdrop.

To me, the most likely rides to close are FL's corky (for which I suspect the fanfare and free publicity AT got on it's own closure won't have been lost on them) and Lightwater Valley's Rat, which if rumours are to be believed, the park has designs on sending to an early grave with talk of dinosaurs.

I think Loopen is getting endangered. I don't cry, this is what Darwin told us, and Loopen checks all the boxes.
- Low entertainment value? Yep.
- Any competitors? 50 steps to the east, you'll find SpeedMonster. No matter the conditions, SM pulls a four times larger queue than Loopen
- Getting unpopular? See above
- Do the public expect more from a ride than it has to offer? Definitely
- Does it offer anything that the other rides in the park don't? A loop. And headbanging
- Does it fill a niche that the other rides in the park don't? Yes. Step up from Dragen to ThunderCoaster. A rumoured 2010 Family coaster will probably do the same
- Getting old? Been there since '88. Rougher ride than most chainsaws
- Maintenance Nightmare? It's low-tech. Steel Wire and Gaffa Tape should unfortunately keep it running for 20 more years
- Does the park have anything to lose by tearing it down? Probably not
- Is there rides available that fit the same space, offers more thrill, and pulls more visitors? Plenty
- Can the park afford such a ride? Yep
- Will people miss it? Can't imagine that
- Iconic status? First coaster in Norway

Also, I think we can prepare to wave goodbye to Jetline sometime the next seven years. Lisebergbanan will probably stay, even if it involves a complete retrack and -supporting.

Agreed. Lisebergsbanan will stay. It has that iconic status and is associated with the park. The fact alone that it still (with quite a margin) get the most visitors in the park although liseberg has one of the best woodies in the world says it all!

I still bid for Steeplechase to be removed. It takes up enough space for a potentially decent coaster to be built there. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Blackpool get a conventional Euro-Fighter, especially how things are going these days...

I don't think we'll be seeing any new rides at Pleasure Beach in the forseeable future, but even in that circumstance, Steeplechase could go.

It's taking up potential land, and is one of the largest footprints in the entire park.

I agree, but I don't see much point in removing the ride for nothing. There will have to be some sort of replacement there and they'd be missing out on a good oppurtunity if it wasn't a good coaster.
Or could they use that space to make it seem less crowded and claustraphobic? :?

The reason to remove it would be to cut costs? That thing is a burden, it needs a bit of maintenance and the middle track rarely operated. Capacity is also dire, the park would benefit with minus 1 ride. Maybe then some of the other rides could come out of their SBNO status.

What about Avalanche? Nobody would really miss it, it's just a filler, and probably the worst bobsled coaster out there. It could free up a fair bit of space too, right by the water.

Agreed.

Its not a bad ride but it would leave so much space if it was removed.

I think Rev will be the next ride removed from Pleasure Beach.

Steeplechase is pretty safe, alot of landscaping would be required if it was going to be removed.

:?:
Gambit --> Batman --> Goliath
Batman Knight Flight --> Dominator
Orochi --> Unknown @ Walygator
Chang --> Destination unknown

So anyways, Oblivion is good, but it isn't even the best coaster in it's own park.

As for other rides I expect to disappear in the next 5 years or so, and will be sad to see go, Whizzer, Loch Ness Monster, the rest of the Arrow suspendeds and likely the Dania Beach Hurricane.

Steeplechase could go, never a queue, one side out of order, getting old.

On thr other hand it is the last one remaining so they will probably hold on to it for as long as possible.

Would possibly allow them to open Rollercoaster, Dipper and Nash at the same time.

Rollercoaster is still removed from the webiste, even though it is now open. Could this be a sign they plan on removing it? Space Invader is gone aswell and the fate of that is clear aswell. Dipper is gone but that is because it is closed.

Remove Rollercoaster and Space Invader building and you have a lot of space. Remove Steeplechase and you get a huge space for a new ride.
