What's new

Jaws at Universal Studios to close

I'm definitely sad to see the ride go, it was always entertaining, but Amity is a really big area with only the one ride, and I'm excited to see what they're going to put in there. Whether its one massive attraction, or a couple of smaller ones, I bet its going to be great, and hopefully makes up for the loss.

I wish I could ride it one more time...

In 1996, it installed a Twister “experience” over a Ghostbusters stage show.

Still </////3 even now.

Also, props gutz that Jaws is going, it was amazing <3

^That's the thing, what recent additions (replacements) have been THAT amazing? I do LOVE Mummy, but Kongfrontation was so.........different. It's just sad to see rides like this go, it's like my childhood.

And as much as I love The Simpsons, it's no Back to the Future.

Whatever replaces it, it better be good.

Oh no, Simpsons is MILES better than Backpain to the Future <//3

And I didn't do Kong but, Mummy is freaking amazing.

I'm sure it'll be good whatever replaces it, but, still. Jaws <3

If it's not a U-571 ride like at Movieland I'll be disappointed.

Pretty devo'd. I know that rides and attractions have to move with the times and all that, but there's something about that ride which does make it special. Everyone's heard about Jaws whether they've seen the film or not, knows the theme tune, and the ride is just a lot of fun.

At least Tokyo's still has theirs for now.

I'm really sad jaws is going, there have been rumours of it leaving for years but now it's confirmed... :-/

Its one of my favourite ever rides because it's just a perfect ride! Absolutely terrifying but so well put together it's just so good!

Very sad :-(

I'll be really sad to see this go. I've always had a soft spot for Jaws at USF. It's a classic ride which is always a lot of fun. I always used to make sure I rode it whenever I went. It will be missed! I wish I could ride it one last time. Lets hope they replace it with something worthy.

I think I'm the only one who thinks Jaws was awful?

It was sort of funny in a lame kind of way, but it wasn't good by any means.

It was just... cheesy commentating and a plastic shark on a stick.

Perhaps it's because I was 18 when I first went to Florida...

Yes it was cheesy and yes everyone knows its fake, but it's the way it all goes together that makes It so brilliant!

Simple things like when they fire the gun and the water explodes, it's well timed so that even though you know there's no way they actually fired, it does look a hell of a lot like they did.

A lot of the ride depended on the host though, if you got a bad host it was cheesy and rubbish, but when you'd get the good ones it was brilliant to watch all the pieces slot into place!

I must dig out my on ride video of it, got a really great host in it too, I think he may have been playing up for the camera but still awesome!

Ugh, I just find any ride with a 'host' pretty awkward and cringe. Jungle Cruise is the worst </3. I know it's interactive, but I just can't stand it.

Maybe I just have bad taste, as I LOVED the Twister thing and the Earthquake thing (well, the scene in the subway, not the crappy interactive bit afterwards </3).

omg, Twister's foul, haha <//3 and Earthquake just goes on for about two years too long (although I think they changed it since I went)

I usually hate things where you're forced to sit and listen to someone, it's so cringe, but, Jaws is just done so well I don't care <3 It's that perfect blend of pretty camp, tongue-in-cheek, and actually, omfg, don't want to get eaten by a vulgar shark <//3

Yea the acting in Jaws was so good. I loved the nade launcher they had going. Unfortunately the ride did take up a massive amount of space, and if they end up removing the empty fear factor live building they will have tons of space to build a new land.

Anyone rumours about what might replace it? (other than the potter train thing, which probably won't happen)

I really hope it isn't anything potterish, it would be a massive annoyance to me if they made another part of a park into potterland, they already have one area of it, they don't need another! I hope whatever it is it's something decent, and I'm sure it probably will be but hopefully not potter...

Not going to miss it tbh it's had it's day.

Like what people have said I do hope it's not more Potter stuff like the other topic claims.

Twister needs to go big time it's rubbish.

They need to start building some actual rides. Twister and earthquake are just crappy simulations/shows. ROTM was good but I think the park could do with a better indoor coaster. I could see this being a Shrek or Madagascar themed land like at Universal Singapore.

^Yes this is what I think as well. Not sure why they don't just re theme the area before the current Potter land but oh well.

No, the point of a Movie themed park is to focus on the 'experience' of being in the films and what-not... Naturally, these are often better do in the way of shows... Remember when HRRRRRRRRRRRR was being built and everyone was all "Why is a big ride being built in a Studios park?"...

Rides aren't everything... Especially when you have the Horror Make-Up Show in your park...

I wasn't impressed with Jaws when I went. It just didn't stand out for me but that might have been to do with the driver that we had more than the ride itself.

Fear Factor is still put on during peak times. I was there near Spring Break and it was on at the weekends but not in the week. It's nothing that exciting but made a nice sit down to have our lunch.
