Fårup My Frikadella Trip Reports!

Farup my Frikadella - Day 1

As per last year, a group of bleary eyed CFers congregated at stupid o'clock at Stansted Airport earlier than meet-up time as they were anxious to get started on the trip, although that time was obviously necessary in order for Slayed to retrieve all the things he'd left behind in his car!

One suprisingly tolerable Ryanair flight later and we arrived in Lubeck, whereby everyone had to wait around at the airport for the hire cars, this was annoying, but not as annoying as Martyn H, so we dealt with him in an appropriate fashion.

Soon enough the cars arrived, with Ian looking suitably smug behing the wheel of an Audi A6, hastily named the Audi of Love and we were on our way to Heide-Park.

Upon arrival, we met up with the mystery guests, Jerry and Aidan, and learnt to our dismay that both Colossos and Scream would be down for the day, and proceeded to faff around for 45 minutes to make up for it! Eventually we got around to riding our first coaster, Schweizer Bobbhan, which is arguably the best Bobsled coaster out there, but is still only a bobsled.

Next up, we took a walk through the park, which is very well themed for a Merlin park, but will probably start to suffer in a few years if they do not keep up with the investment necessary to maintain the park at it's current level. In general, I liked the place and all the epic slides that were dotted around the place. But it had some obvious failings, wasps, queues, slow throughput, the two main rides down all day. Shame though as there's a solid base and it could easily rival Phantasialand to be the best park in Europe with a bit of care and attention (and a world class ride).

That aside, we had credits to get, so straight away we got the ridiculously-long-queue-for-drinks-whilst-no-other-CFer-is-in-the-queue credit and after everyone had done that, meandered up the hill to get Schweizer Bobbhan.

See. There's a picture and everything. It's not mine, it's Marc's as I followed a no ride pictures policy which was cool and non-TPRish at the time, but now means I need to borrow pictures from other people to make my trip report flow, unless...

We then went on Grottenblitz, Indy Blitz, Big Loop and Limit, as per the other trip reports.</TPR>

Then we came to the ERT portion of the evening, which was my kind of ERT, up the exit path for the remaining credits, and some champagne for good measure, keeping in the spirit of the people not rides philosophy, here are some people. Drinking champagne. In a theme park.

After the champagne we went on Colossos, which despite being a typical American coaster - all about speed and height, and thus not maximising the thrill, did give a lot of air time, but even more hair-time.

5776_229318430612_539310612_8016928_1419832_n.jpg

See, serious bouffant. But a satisfied expression nevertheless.

After that and Desert Race, it was time to leave Heide Park for Burger King, which was just as grim in Germany as the UK. But did give the priceless moment of the day, when Neal just randomly chucked his tray on the floor and declared it to be useless (I suspect he'd forgotten he hadn't bought his butler along!).

Anyway, without a second park, it was time for the pub, and if you were wondering what happened to Bill Bailey, he was working here, giving the most appalling service imaginable, I dont't have a picture, but you can expect to see him at Thorpe Park next season.

But eventually, we were served, and thus Pub Times!

That's it for Day 1, not the most inspiring day of the live, but the rest of the photos are available here:

Day 3 - Fårup Sommerland and Karolinelund

Again I can not remember the ride order :(

The day started off with an hours ERT on Lynet, this was a new coaster type for me. Yet again the staff were fantastic and the park just let us walk to the ride ourselves, how trusting. We were greated by ride ops that had a smile.

Lynet. I loved this coaster from the station to the ride, the launch is fantastic as is the ride layout. I think a good number of us over done the riding, I done 15 rides and then felt a bit ill so started taking pictures. I did get back on for another 5 rides though :) The staff allowed people to check the trains and press the button, nice touch please people who done this. A great way to start the day, big thanks to Slayed and the park. Staff yet again smiling and happy and just so friendly.

We stopped for food and drinks after this before heading to the the next ride.

Falken. Was a fun woody, yes not the best in the world but did give some airtime and felt as a woody should really. Some of the group went for a 2nd run whilst Martyn made us laugh with his spunk sweets.

Some of the group then done the speed boats and some done the trampolines :) Laughing already.

Mushroom thought he would get on one and for some reason lent on the top rope which gave way. Over he went head 1st to the ground try to stop himself falling. He grabbed on to all the ropes and got into a mess. Its so hard to explain but it was just so funny.

I think we then done the rapids, again not that great but not that bad either.

The group then split as some done the asualt stuff and Mark Gavin and I went for a mince and a drink. At this point it rained and boy did it rain. We found a nice place by the boating lake, but the seats were wet. A memeber of staff came over to the table and dryed the seats and the table, we were in shock I have never ever seen this in a theme park. Again great customer service.

We then had our free lunch which the biggest coke glass I have ever seen in my life.

Mine Expressen was next, a family Vekoma coaster. This was fun as it was not standard and for this type of coaster was rather fast.

After this we done the last coaster in the park a Spinning Mouse. Not much to say about these really, we dont like them but ride them.

We then met the MD of the park, nice guy who cares.

The park is so nice, its not just a themepark its more than that. So many areas to sit and relax and its just so green and well kept.

The only bad point in the park was the chewing gum on a tree in the queue for the Mouse coaster. I managed to put my hand in it and someothers got gum on their clothes. Why people do this I will never know, the tree is in the queue line so you have to walk past it and people are always going to lean on it. This was not fun times.

Karolinelund

Totally different to the other park, it was more like a fair and not really a good one.

The Boomerang was first. Was not to rough but not to good either.

Pinfari Looper again rough and gave its normal ride, enough said really.

Apple coaster with a turn table that does not work lol. Again not much to say apart from 4 laps lol.

Some of the group done the drop tower.

This is one park I would probably skip if I went back tbh.

Great day and many laughs, everyone who saw the Mushroom stunt was laughing about it all day :)

Pictures are here http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 ... 6aeed551fd

Please feel free to use any of them.

For those that don't read Facebook regularly, I've had 3 EEG tests and an MRI over the last two days, so unless the hospital wants to run another EEG test later today, I think most of the tests are now over. I'll try to have a word with the doctors later today, and see if I can arrange to be discharged tomorrow and fly back tomorrow night. Here's hoping. I really can't wait to get out of here.

I'm loving the trip reports and captions. I'm not viewing all the photos on Facebook yet, as the wireless connection is somewhat slow and tempremental at the best of times, but I look forward to viewing them all and posting some of my own as soon as I get home to Yorkshire.

You are tagged in a good few of them :)

Glad your feeling a lot better, and hope you are home soon.

Did you have insurance? hope you get booked on a flight without problems.

Sounds like you've recovered Andy, good news :).

I've sent a quick email to all the parks thanking them for their efforts last week. Some of the people are on holiday; Søren from Fårup is the first to respond:-

Søren from Fårup said:
Thank you very much for the kind words. It is always nice for the staff to know that the efforts they are doing are appreciated.
Looking forward to see you again another time.
Yours Søren Kragelund

They should be proud of their staff, not just the ones that worked for the ERT but them all. From people in the shops to ride ops, everyone was just great. Most of the parks had better customer service than Disney and thats saying something.

WARNING! This post is super long (sorry for slow loading times). So read if you have quite a bit of time to kill. It's taken me ages to write so I would appreciate it if you did read it and comment as well. :)
Enjoy...

Day 2:

Djurs Sommerland:
We left the Hotel early because of our ERT. Steven wanted a room to himself so he could put his make-up on as he was dressing up as a pirate (the only one doing so). He then came rushing out of his room 1 minute before we had to leave as he overslept. GOON!
We got to the park in the morning to find an empty car park with only a tractor going up and down. We then got a call from Ian saying that he'd been pulled over by the police so we went in for our ERT. We met up with the staff and they walked us over to the ride.
I got front row as it was my 100th credit. It was an amazing ride. Brilliant first drop with a really intense first corner. Lots of airtime, headchoppers tunnel and it doesn't slow down at all for the whole ride. I didn't ride it as many times as everyone else as I started to feel a bit queasy because of all the strong forces after about 7 rides so took a break and got some pictures. The front was excellent and so was the back but it got a bit shaky towards the end of the ride while sitting in the back.

Ian's car finally turned up with 15 minutes of ERT remaining so they got a few rounds as well. After the ERT we thanked the staff and moved on. We walked past a dingy slide thing but didn't bother riding it.
6340_1206495599612_1145311439_643784_5382749_n.jpg

We then came across an awesome blue cone climbing thing. We all ran straight for it and began climbing. It's much harder than it looks as the blue material is soft and you can get any grip on it. The handle things are also hard to hold onto. There was lots of people sliding down and falling which must of hurt if you caught yourself on one of the handles. I fianally got to the top and was annoyed to find out I had climbed the hardest side. As the other side were green handles and there were loads of them.

So instead we decided to go on the rapids. They looked pretty wet from the queue but once on it it wasn't that bad. They had an awesome bid at the end though where you think it's over and a window opens in a house above the boat and a woman comes out and chucks a bucket of water down onto the boat soaking whoever it lands on. Luckily I didn't get hit as I knew something was coming as everyone in the boat in front going up the lift hill had there cameras out and were pointing them at us. :p

6340_1206496319630_1145311439_643801_6954629_n.jpg

We got of to find a small toilet animatronic by the entrance of the ride that opens and sprays water at people walking past. It was obvious what was going to happen so no-one was dumb enough to stand in front of it.
6340_1206496359631_1145311439_643802_1394662_n.jpg

We all decided it was time for the Slushy stop. On the way to the stall we passed an open fire that people could sit round. You'd never have one in a UK park.
6340_1206496399632_1145311439_643803_4260734_n.jpg

It was then about 5 minutes till Thors Hammer opened so we headed back over there. The queue wasn't too long so we go on pretty quickly. Even though it's themed really well I still find Cobra more fun.
It had a huge buffalo head on a spike dripping blood though which everyone joked was even more gory that the whole of the Saw ride.

We then did Karlos Taxi which is a mini apple coaster. And I think it was the first one I've ever been on. Steven went on the train before everyone as there was a spare seat. The faces on the kids in front when they turned around and saw him was hilarious as they were terrified.

We then wandered round the park and found an entrance in a small cave. We went in to find three tunnel slides. They were super fast and at the end slammed you down onto solid ground hurting your bum.

So instead we went on the log flume next to it. Colorado River. It was a nice small log flume. It had three drops and surprisingly it was the small one that was about 4 foot high that was the wettest soaking everyone in the log.
6340_1206496959646_1145311439_643817_1127345_n.jpg

We then decided it was time for lunch. Most of us tried some American Diner place that had a massive and slow moving queue. Some people went off to see if there was anywhere else to eat and they came back saying there was a all you can eat buffet a short distance away. Most of us went there and scoffed loads of food until we were about to burst. It was really nice. :)
After Lunch we met back outside Piraten and decided to re-ride . It was even better now. It was running super fast and the airtime was even better. :) We took the remaining few minutes of our lunch break to get close to the ride and take some great shots.

We then found a giant bouncy castle thing embedded in the ground. I'm still not sure if it's filled with water or air. But it's super bouncy and incredibly fun. :)

The bunk beds were silly. You had to pull it down from the wall and it was really narrow with no sides to it. So if you rolled over slightly in the night you'd end up on the floor with broken bones as it was really high up as well.

We then had fun trying to work out which handle did what in the bathroom. There were two next to each other and the shower was in the ceiling above where you stood for the sink so if you did it wrong you got soaked. It was really complicated as well. I think the one on the right you had to turn to the right for the sink and left for the shower and depending on how far you turned it determined the power. And the one on the left did the temperature and you had to pull another little handle down to turn it on. Very confusing indeed.

The hotel lobby seemed quite weird though. It didn't seem like a hotel.

Once everyone was out we walked to the second park of the day.
Tivoli Friheden:
6340_1206504799842_1145311439_643883_2551584_n.jpg

The first thing that everyone could see walking into the park was the SCAD Tower dominating above the trees.
6340_1206504839843_1145311439_643884_6235495_n.jpg

The park also had nice little fountains.
6340_1206504879844_1145311439_643885_7023231_n.jpg

The SCAD Tower looked MASSIVE!!!!

6340_1206504959846_1145311439_643887_5423168_n.jpg

And there was a tiny little lift to get to the top of it.
6340_1206504999847_1145311439_643888_8164837_n.jpg

For those unfamiliar with the idea of a SCAD Tower. They put you in a harness. Take you to the top. Hover you over the centre of the tower...
6340_1206505039848_1145311439_643889_3638036_n.jpg

And just release the harness and let you fall...

Our first credit of the park was Orkanens Oje. It was pretty rough but got up some good speed.
6340_1206505119850_1145311439_643891_5744425_n.jpg

Next up was Cobra. Some people were nervous about this as it's only just opened after been closed for ages as it fell apart and crashed with people on it. It had really comfy seats that I think all coasters should try and get. The trains were also nice. But the layout was rough and the inversions were snappy and random.

After you get off they give put free blindfolds in the shop daring you to do it again in the dark. We all though it was a stupid idea so took a load each and wore them on other rides throughout the rest of the trip. Next credit was Dragen.

Next up was Tyfonen. It was a spinning Wild Mouse that didn't spin.

We then did the flat ride Pegasus. The cycle on this was insane and we flipped over loads. Peter lost his park maps and Wills glasses case came flying out his pocket during the ride as well.
6340_1206506039873_1145311439_643914_5209806_n.jpg

We then did the bumper cars where we all did Ian's epic plan. We all decided to wear our blindfolds on the bumper cars. But what we really did was do it so Steven wore his so when it started everyone would take theirs off and just crash into his car. It worked and was hilarious for half the ride before he finally realised what was happening.

After the bumper cars we headed into the Fun house. It was fun. :)

After this we decided to go and do the SCAD Tower. It was super cheap only 50DKK which is about £7 I think. Will stole my camera while I went up.

We all got in our harnesses and got our photos taken before going up in the lift. Slayed went up just to take photos. Which was weird as he was scared of heights so he crawled on his hands and knees until he got to the sit where he just sat with his camera. Well done for going up though Slayed. :)
I'm surprised I wasn't scared or nervous at all until I was halfway falling towards the net.

It was a really weird feeling falling like that. I looks like 3 seconds on videos but when you're falling it feels like 30. Its the ultimate adrenaline rush and most people including myself came off shaking. It was brilliant. :D
6340_1206507119900_1145311439_643940_3198166_n.jpg

I treated myself to a nice Beer after.

While others went on the SCAD Tower some of went off to do the Ghost Train 'Elses Hotel' it wasn't scary but it was epic because the themeing was amazing and the effects were great too. For example in the first room you go into an elevator. As it's going up your car lifts about a foot of the ground like it's floating and moves around. Here's a POV I did of it. Although it's much better when you're on it in real life. :)

And that's my super long report for the second day of the Euro-live. I bet no-one reads it all after the time I spent doing it as well. :p

Wow someone read it all? lol
And in case people haven't noticed (now that a new page has started) that I've posted a huge PTR of the 2nd day on the last page. :)

Great report Ollie, lots of cool pics :)

Mushroom, that video is so funny. Just love it when marc realises he threw the water at that innocent mechanic

Pre Trip Trip Report

While most of the group were at Thorpe, I was on a bunch of trains down to Southend. I should just point out that I took very few photos at all on this trip. I usually take **** loads, but since there were so many people taking pictures on this trip, I didn’t really see the need.

However, being aware of the attention spans of a lot of people, I’m going to punctuate my ranting with other people’s pictures. I’ll use google images, and post the first picture that comes each time.

So, my journey began at Wrexham train station.

786243_8f8fe3db.jpg

Which isn’t the station in that picture. Not a great start to my google plan. Anyway, I had to transfer at:

birmingham_selfridges_building.jpg

for a

virgin-cheerleaders.jpg

Train%20Image.jpg

to

london.jpg

and finally arrived at

944641-The_Pier_Southend_on_Sea_Essex-Southend_on_Sea.jpg

Marc met me at the station, and we walked back to his place, chatted and drank coffee for a while until Mark got home. I met their cats. The young tabby one is nuts. The white one looks a bit evil, but is actually a real softy. The black one is a bit of a c **** t!

Time for some credits, so we walked around the corner to

adventure.jpg

Island.jpg

I’d never been here before, but thought it was pretty decent for a seaside park. Because it was after 6pm, I got a half price

8986.jpg

rb.jpg

I’d never tried a Eurofighter before, so we headed straight onto

021406_rage.jpg

I thought it was pretty good really. It was nowhere near as rough as I’d been expecting, the drop was very good, and it packed quite a lot into such a small space.

Next up was

green-recycle-img.jpg

Rep_Edvard_Munch_The_Scream_Oil_Painting_Art_Prints.jpg

which had a stupidly long train, and wasn’t very good. Luckily, we got a second circuit just to confirm our suspicions of crapness.

The next coaster up was

Copy%20of%20barnstormer.jpg

Rubbish!

The final coaster was

mighty_mouse.jpg

533-2006-mini-gp.jpg

mega-man-cosplay.jpg

I actually quite liked this. It didn’t ride like a Pinfari at all. I thought it was the best coaster there after Rage, actually. I don’t think these people agreed with me though.

We had a quick go on a pretty good dark ride.

SM171Somewhere-Over-The-Hill-Poster.jpg

The U.K. mostly does **** dark rides, but this one is fun. No other word for it sorry.

I wanted to try a couple of flat rides, so selfishly made these people wait while I did just that. There was

croc-claw.jpg

which gave me a headache, followed by

fireball-fire-planet-mars21.jpg

which made me feel like throwing up. The car wouldn’t align properly either, so I had to stay on it and get sent round again. These people smiled politely as they waited for about 15 minutes altogether.

We went back to the cats, ordered pizza and watched Big Brother. I haven’t seen Big Brother since that poof won it years ago, and I shan’t be watching it again.

Hmmmm, just realised that this doesn’t belong in this topic at all really. Ah well. Bollocks to it. It was part of MY trip, and that’s the important thing.

Good news folks - I'll be discharged tomorrow, and have booked flights for myself and Chris H for tomorrow evening. That's right, The Mouse is finally coming home!

^ Good stuff, Andy! Glad you're ok to fly home. Hope there's not too much following up to be done back in the UK and it was a one-off.

^How? Gavins report is probably the clearest out the lot. Try putting the pictures together to create words.
