Your favourite and least favourite indoor coaster

Indoor coasters.

Not often ranked very highly, perhaps the ultimate 'filler' coaster in many people's eyes.

So, what is your favourite/least favourite?

Off the top of my head I'd probably go -

Favourite: Psyke Underground at Walibi Belgium

A Schwarzkopf Shuttle Loop in a giant tube? Yes please.
The funky station music and lights actually bring this together nicely in my opinion and I love the launch into darkness.
Pretty disorientating, but in an entertaining way.

Least favourite: Jellikins Coaster at Fantasy Island

Oh, the shame.

Honorable mention: Vogel Rok at Efteling

Great entrance, fantastic soundtrack.
The coaster isn't exactly anything special but it's a really fun, smooth layout with some nice swooping drops, which are fab in near darkness.

Favourite: Revenge of the Mummy - killer ride with a great theme and launch.

Worst: Temple of the Nighthawk - legitimately nauseating. Meanderingly long ride with nothing to see in a tin that gets to hot. In the bin.

This thread has made me realise I don't track 'indoors' and 'outdoors' on my Cred Sheet...something to add...

Anyways, here's some level of ranking, from highest to lowest...

Van Helsing's Factory
Winjas
Psyke Underground
Vogel Rok
The Walking Dead: The Ride
Revolution (Bobbejaanland)...or whatever it's called now
Rioolrat (Hellendoorn)
Miniwah (Plohn)
Ice Mountain (Winter Wonderland)
Crazy Bats
Linnunrata (Linnanmaki)

So there we have it. I might have missed a couple but meh.

Van Helsing's Factory is just such a fun ride with a wonderful theme and theming. It all combines together and just works. But really the Top 4 is all pretty close.

Linnunrata is an indoor kiddie cred (which had rubbish VR when I did it). Just not that great.

Maybe it's because I've got rose tinted specs on at the moment, and haven't ridden it in so long and just generally missing the park, but I think I might be rating Crazy Bats a bit too harshly as well...Oh well...

Revenge of the Mummy, Florida version is the easy winner for me. To be fair, the Hollywood version is also pretty darn good in it's own right, but when you've already ridden the Florida one, with all it's blazing pyrotechnics and classic just-when-you-think-it's-all-over moment, the California counterpart just doesn't live up.

Psyke Underground, Walibi Belgium, is a good shout. What's not to love about a Schwarzkopf shuttle in a tube?

Vogel Rok, Efteling, for its soundtrack.

Raptor Attack (RIP), Lightwater Valley, for it's bizarre location and weird sewer based queueline.

The Black Hole (RIP), Alton, for being my first indoor coaster. Long live the 1980's!

Flight of Fear, Kings Island & Kings Dominion. They're actually pretty good y'know. Bonus points for the genuinely creepy, and still clearly Outer Limits themed queuelines.

Sh*ttest:
That'll be Temple of the Nighthawk, then. S'obvious.

This sprang to mind as one of the faves. Works really well as both a coaster and dark ride.

Good old Raptor Attack. Forgot all about this. At one stage I'd say it was the best indoor coaster in the UK.
Loved the queue line.

Completely forgot that coasters where the entire park is indoors are also indoor coasters. El Loco and Canyon Blaster at Adventuredome are both incredibly good. But, Mindbender at Galaxyland is also a small step above.

I also love Turbo Track at Ferrari World, although it's very hard to tell if that is an indoor coaster or not. It's mostly indoors except for the spike. Really look forward to riding Storm Coaster and Shellraiser. They might also make it on this list.

Some good answers in this thread, not a lot I'd disagree with...

But I am surprised only Josh has mentioned Van Helsing's Factory, That's easily my favourite.

Arthur is another that would be quite high up my list. I know it's a kiddie ride, but I really enjoyed it. Perhaps it was because my kids were 3 and 4 when the movie came out, they absolutely loved the movie, and rode the coaster with me for the first time... So maybe it's personal, but yeh, it's up there for me.

Ah yes - as less thrilling coasters go, Arthur and WMG are definitely worth a shout :)

Bad ones? I've probably forgotten most of them, but there are quite a few out there.

Amazing ones? Psyke Underground definitely makes the shortlist, but after the ride I had on it recently, Space Mountain in Anaheim has to be at the top of my list. I have to say I was surprised, as I rarely hear it praised, and the layout, on paper, doesn't look like much to write home about. However, it was a lot more intense and entertaining than expected, and I found myself both shocked by how forceful it was, and laughing at the craziness. Honestly, I'd take it over most mid-tier B&Ms any day. It's awesome. Pure fun, from beginning to end.

  1. Vurang @ Hopi Hari — It's hard to go wrong with a spinner in the dark! Especially an Intamin one with a "complete"-feeling layout! The pyramidal structure is pretty interesting and adds to the experience, very cool ride, to me it's like a superior Space Mountain in almost every single way.
  2. Rock N' Roller Coaster @ Disney's Hollywood Studios
  3. Revenge of the Mummy @ Universal Studios Florida
  4. Space Mountain @ Disneyland
  5. Space Mountain @ Magic Kingdom
  6. Montanha Russa do Astronauta @ Parque da Mônica — Turma da Mônica was a big part of my childhood, so it's cute to see a family coaster themed to it! The tunnel on the lift hill is really cool, and the lighting and rockwork is really nice! I also rode this when the park was O Mundo Da Xuxa, don't remember anything about it aside from the cool tunnel though...

Indoor is Revenge of the Mummy, and I also think that Space Mountain (not the Parisian one) would be up there as well. Flight of Fear is a guilty pleasure, but doesn't really hold a candle to those two.

Least favourite is maybe that weird spinning coaster at Rainbow Magicland that just sits within an unthemed box.
