It sounds.. interesting, I guess. I like the sound of different endings and experiences, hopefully that'll make it more rerideable, but that depends on how different the experiences will be. It does bring about some questions though:
- With a "ride" time of 12 minutes, how many people will this thing be able to put through in an hour? If it's one train inside an empty warehouse, I can't see it being able to have a large capacity. Or will it have staging areas/different rooms during the 12 minutes.
- Another thing is I wonder what the age restriction will be? Another great move from Merlin their to make the park more family friendly! Bravo.

Derren Brown's Ghost Train is the name?! I love it! It says "modern twist on classic ride" in such a quaint yet concise way. It's straight to the selling point without giving anything away. It's a great name.
Call me weird but I genuinely liked Nemesis Subterra, and I love Hex. I think Merlin are capable of delivering wonderful, eerie dark rides that are more quirky than they get credit for. A haunting dark ride at Thorpe is going to be a much needed breath of fresh air for the park, I reckon. Fills a gap in their ride line up nicely. Actually excited for this now!

Derren Brown today announces that the top secret attraction he has been working on with Thorpe Park Resort is a Ghost Train re-invented for the 21st Century. First visuals released today reveal a seven tonne Victorian Carriage suspended in mid-air.
Derren Brown’s Ghost Train, which can only be found at Thorpe Park Resort, is a head-spinning train journey of between 10-15 minutes, the like of which guests will never have taken before; providing a heady mixture of exhilarating live action sequences, 4D special effects, grand-scale illusions, next generation technology, and physical transit. No place for spectators, guests will play a major part in the action which will leave them questioning where perception ends and reality begins.
Thorpe Park Resort’s biggest and most ambitious investment to date, Derren Brown’s Ghost Train takes theme park attractions to a whole new level, promising to derail guests’ minds with a series of multi-sensory experiences. Like its inventor, this is a smart ride that also has 12 multiple knee-shaking journeys and two endings - so not only will no two ‘rides’ on board Derren Brown’s Ghost Train be the same but every journey will provoke an intense response and reaction in each individual ‘passenger.’ So whilst guests may share the journey with others, the experience will be an individual one – and every journey, every sensation and every fear will be quite unique.

Derren Brown’s Ghost Train will be housed within an extraordinary purpose built warehouse that encompasses 2306 square metres and is tall enough to house nearly three double decker buses. The centrepiece of the attraction will consist of a 20 metre long, four and a half metre high, seven tonne Victorian train carriage that is suspended in mid air over three metres above ground by iron chains. A carriage which passengers enter via a metal bridge, and where the mind-bending journey begins in earnest in what appears to be a large disused Victorian warehouse.
Guests will be subject to a variety of multi-sensory surprises throughout the journey including a series of high-octane live action sequences where participants will take centre stage in the story. And like his TV shows and stage performances, Brown will toy with guests’ minds and perceptions throughout the journey on board the Ghost Train until they no longer know what is real, before leaving them on a cliffhanger ending.
The team involved in the creation of the attraction includes over 1,000 specialists from Thorpe Park Resort’s Merlin Magic Making Creative Department and external experts who have pooled their skills.

I'm interested on how this will play out, I love a good Ghost Train, and with the amount being spent on this project, I would expect it to be one of the best I've experienced. I like the idea of multiple paths of the story, that at least brings variety to re rides.
If it doesn't outshine Bla Taget @ Grona Lund then I will be disappointed though.

Everything about that press release gets me excited... except for the bit about VR headsets. I mean, why have physical, practical, 4D and special effects if you're gonna be wearing a headset the whole time?
So for the time being at least, I'm gonna ignore that bit and be excited about everything else. I find it curious that despite all the discussion in this topic about 'ghosts' and 'trains' that nobody has put those two words together to make 'ghost train'. I mean... durhhh, where were we on that one guys?
I know we've heard this 'world first' nonsense from Merlin a thousand times before, but I'm starting to think that this time they might actually mean it. Previous world-first claims have usually been a bit tenuous to say the least, y'know? A bit transparent. The wording in that press release sounds a lot more confident than their usual rubbish.
I mean come on, a 7 tonne Victorian railway carriage suspended from the ceiling on iron chains?? NOBODY saw that coming! I mean this in a good way... but WTF? I guess we can put to bed all those rumours of trackless ride systems and robocoasters then.
Personally, I've seen enough now. I don't want to know any more details. I'm happy in the knowledge that it's not any of the things that we've been talking about already, and that for once, we might actually be looking at something radically new, different and genuinely surprising. Just like they said it's gonna be...

Looks like it will do exactly what its designed to do very well. Scare people. Will it be anyone's favorite ride over any of the coasters? I highly doubt it. That said i am very intrigued to go and find out exactly what this thing is, I may be in the minority here but having the whole secrecy aspect has really drawn me in. Granted secrecy wouldn't be the way to market a coaster or even a ride but this clearly isn't either of those.
Also really love the idea of the train suspended by the chains, it just looks really scary to me, i cant quite put my finger on why but its an extremely creepy idea and will look awesome in the warehouse.

It looks like it's designed to scare the **** out of you so it may well keep the age restriction - this isn't like Th13teen this is actually designed to scare.
I think it looks great I'm really excited. Do I think Darren Bloomfield's Gay Train will be the best ride there, no. Will it be interesting and different? Yes!

You know what, I am actually really excited for this! I am loving the idea of a fully themed immersive experience. Sure there's likely to be not much of a ride to it, but honestly I value atmosphere just as much. It has the potential to be one of the better dark rides in the country, not sure it can beat Valhalla to that claim, but it looks great.
I think Ben's right, they'll keep the age restriction, as it does look like it's going to be a scare based attraction, but I personally believe it will be loosely used.
So yeah pretty chuffed about the announcement, looks like a lot of fun. Important not to have unrealistic expectations though.

Didn't they say that 13 would be so scary that they reccommended only 1 ride per day when they were hyping it back in 2009? If its 10+ that would be fine but if they're overzealous and make it 15+ and you have to show ID then I'll feel sorry for whoever runs the facebook page because a lot of mums are gonna complain!

Example: "Children under the age of 16 are not permitted to enter" is vastly different to "We recommend that Children under the age of 16 do not enter". In reality, these types of 'restrictions' are new to impossible to actually stick to at theme parks. Even if the guest is over 18, they may not even want to bring ID to a theme park if they do not find it necessary prior to going, and therefore, the park would be setting themselves up for a huge loss.
Policing something along those lines is just an added expense and in reality, it won't happen.
