The Games we play...

Some of the deals are excellent - borderlands was a couple of quid for the full game reciently, and darksiders about 6 quid. I think the best way to look at it in a fair light is a little like a lovefilm:games edition. I'm not a lover of not physically owning a game, but frankly is it much different to xbla?

Kinda, Considering OnLive is a service that has the purpose of streaming higher end games for the people who can't run them. Which is the place consoles already fill... Phil's kinda said everything needed for a discussion about the service it's self, it sounds good but it's too early for it. High internet speeds aren't widely avalible enough and people get pissed enough at the moment.

Also, XBLA stuff is download and ran from your storage medium, and has better games, and some rare games that are easier to obtain, and games that were never released out side of japan in their original time. (Guardian Heros, REZ HD, Radiant Silvergun, IKARUGA <3, Gunstar Heroes)

Fairy nuff. Wouldn't necessarily say it's too early for it though, just not for all - but for anyone with a decent internet connection, It really is worth a punt, especially as without the microconsole you can sign up and use it free. As a conduit for playing demos without faffing on installing, or the ability to watch and then join other peoples games is games is superb.

Remember also if you have BT infinity, you get three months of the 100 plus games on the playpack free, and there are some excellent titles, such as Arkham Asylum and Bioshock amongst them. Can honestly say I expected to hate the system (I'm no real fan of not owning titles ironically), but have found it to be a decent, reliable game medium (25+ hours on Arkham City since Christmas is testament to that). The fact that you can use it to play the likes of LA Noire on an android smartphone puts it on a whole different level.

The microconsole you could effectively carry, with your entire game collection in your pocket to a mate's house, and roll on from there, the controller is like the Xbox one, but with the fabulous addition of brag clips (films the last ten seconds of play, if you have accidentally pulled of something decent). Strongly recommended.

The titles avalible are another problem they take ages to come out on for the service when they're all readily avalible for equaly cheap. Don't take this as an attack or anything, just trying to learn more about the service but noting really, shines about it. I don't really understand your view of not wanting to own a title whether it's physical or not.

(oh yeah, no mods allowed on onlive, so it loses fun points for that but, that's minor.)

Yeah, the fact it has some really good, but four years old, games that are avalible for about £3 isn't a HUGE selling point...

I have owned pretty much every console ever made, either at the time, or due to an unhealthy stint on ebay  , and have the three current console, so got OnLive more out of bad habit, than having been sold on it. I have two games, Arkham City (Which I got as a free choice of game with my Microconsole Christmas present), and Lego Batman (which OnLive gave away free for downloading the Onlive app). I will inevitably buy a few of the cheap deal ones - Borderlands for a couple of quid being a good example (which I already own on the PS3).

It's not a stunning system by any stretch of the imagination, and by choice I don't buy games new anyway, and by preference, they would always be on disc. What OnLive does though, by definition, is give you your game, your saves anywhere - I was able to play my progress on on of the playpack games at a mates house, when I was bored - just because I could.

As I say, the best comparison is something like netflix or lovefilm - never owning things but not without merit. With the Pro Evo offer, what the microconsole lets a user do is play the service through a TV, and given that in 12-24 months pro evo will be languishing in a bargain bin for less than a fiver, for those of you that buy games new, the offer isn't a bad deal, even if it is the only game you get, if it lands the microconsole, and enables online matches without chucking money at Microsoft, and the frankly excellent demo service.

Not a replacement for PS3s or X360s, but a decent compliment to them, and honestly much better than I expected.

I'm currently trying to decide whether to get very angry at Sony or not.

I joined Playstation Plus as it's a subscription service. So as long as you renew, you keep the games. It's hit and miss, but overall it's worth the £40 a year.

However, in October all my games stopped working and I found this thread on the Playstation forums:
http://community.eu.playstation.com/t5/ ... p/13597079

There are quite a few people with similar problems. I contacted Sony and they gave me "we don't know, will call when it's fixed" stuff. They called back after a couple of weeks and said it's a "major issue". They offered a refund for this year's subscription or for me to wait. The refund is useless, it's not this year that is an issue but last year. By taking the refund it would be the same as not renewing. I renewed because I want the games from last year (and some from this year). That's kind of the idea of a perpetual subscription.

I offered to Sony that they could cancel my last years and just refund me part of subscription but keep my current subscription in place. Just £20 to cover the cost of buying the games I wanted - which I thought for fair enough and better than them giving me back £40.

They refused and it's still going on. The Playstation Plus subscription service doesn't work, they're not fixing it and won't negotiate. They've now also banned me from posting about it on the Playstation Blog

So my advice? Don't bother with PS+ (not that many of you would) and (as if you needed telling), probably avoid buying anything on subscription with Sony, they just can't handle it technically.

For Kim.

Saints' Row: The Third

I've been playing this game for about a month now and the best way to describe it is to say that it has **** everything in it. The game is **** insane. You'll find homies, hos, fast cars, explosions, hover jets, pixel tanks, auto tuned pimps, bdsm, giant purple dildos, zombies, Burt **** Raynolds, a tron-like level...hell, if you wanna run around naked, go right ahead. The developers obviously weren't being serious when they created the game, and it worked out great.

The music in game is great. They have many great bands and artists covering basically every genre. My friend is an avid musician and he absolutely loves the music. Visually, the SR3 won't blow you away, but you're screwed up if you're buying a game just for the looks. Gameplay wise, the story is a tad short, but it's also chock full of side missions to keep you occupied for hours. The only thing that takes away from the game is that Whored mode(survival mode) does not have a local co-op option.

Overall, the game is a hell of a lot of fun. It was definitely worth the money I forked up for it.

9.5/10

"The Game: Team Fortress 2
Genre: Elaborate Hat-Modeling Simulator
Platform: PC, Mac "

The genre description made my day.

Ha! I actually got PS+ last night and then remembered skimming through this post.

So the games you get for free/discounted through PS+ - come the end of my subscription do I have to renew before it runs out for these games to continue working (i.e if it expires for two days and I buy again will the games from original subscription work)??

Have you ever got down to the bottom of why your games stopped working? I note you're not a PS+ subscriber anymore...

Right, you have to renew before the day your subscription ends to get to keep the games. Otherwise your subscription lapses and you lose access to the games.

The problem with my subscription is because the PSN/PS+ team consists of untrained monkeys. They don't actually know how to run a major networking system. Because I renewed with a special offer, it wasn't normal (it was a special offer for current PS+ subscribers) and therefore they **** it up. Simple mistake I'm sure, but they haven't a clue how to fix it. Essentially they've not included that offer as a "renew" so the subscription has lapsed.

Their resolution is "keep on fobbing off everyone it affects until more than 12 months have gone by and they've all forgotten about it and let us off the hook". That's Sony's professional customer service.

They've now cancelled my PS+ subscription without me asking, which was very nice and I'm waiting for a call back to explain it. However, they've cancelled PS+, but my games are still working, probably until September when that subscription was due to expire.

All in all, it's an almighty **** up on Sony's part. It's a shame because it's good having a constant stream of games and some of the discounts are excellent. Plus, cloud game saves. It's all too good to be true ;)
