Texas Giant Media Day

It IS Six Flags, so what they will probably do is keep them for 2 years, and then transplant them to the next wooden coaster that gets one of these makeovers. And while I thought the lights were a nice touch, after most people ride this, they will more than likely forget that the lights are even there as they will probably be turned off a lot, and the tunnels would be fine without the lights really, considering during the day at least it was pretty light and you got blinded for the 5 seconds out of the tunnel, then you are right back in, it has perfect tunnel lengths.
 
I find the lights in the tunnels a bit frivolous tbh. The tunnels remind me of those on Ravine Flyer II & I think I would prefer them without any lights what so ever, especially at night when they could offer total darkness.
 
Whatever the reason they turn the lights of, IF they do, it's not going to be to save energy, as LED's draw a negligible amount, and if that's their reasoning... Well what the hell...
 
Wow! It looks great! The whole theming makes the ride look great from the beginning, and from watching the POV it looks amazingly smooth and fast. I was most impressed by the (extremely) overbanked turns.

Just one question: Is it technically a steel coaster (steel hybrid - wooden supports with a steel track)?
 
Even though it has been answered so many times, it can't hurt to be answered once more. Yes, it is technically a steel coaster. That's what everyone's saying, except Six Flags
 
It is a HYBRID coaster, steel track, wooden structure. If the reasoning is that because it has steel rails, and therefore that makes it a steel coaster, well then just think about how many wooden coasters use steel for rails... That's pretty much all of them...

As much as I'd hate to say it ( :p ), Xpress is right. This is a Hybrid coaster. Sure, you could call it a "Steel" Hybrid (much the same way you could call Voyage a "Wooden" Hybrid), but they're all still hybrids.

Both rides have wheels that roll along steel. If all wooden coasters used just plain treated wood as running rails, they would be replacing the track daily, and the ride would get significantly worse throughout the day.

The only difference between Gwazi and New Texas Giant is that New Texas Giant has a solid steel rail to eliminate the need for rail replacement 6-12 months down the road.
 
^Whilst this is true, the steel only acts as a sheath to the wooden rail below. The rails on Gwazi are made of wood, with a steel sheet on top for protection. The rails on New Texas Giant are all steel, supported by a wooden structure.

That's the difference.

QANTAS now flies direct SYD to DFW so I took them up on this new route and landed on Saturday.
Naturally I hit SFOT...It was a nice park, decent for SF actually.

So how was NTXG? **** awesome! 12 moments of air in the front, 14 in the back (you get extra coming on/off the MCBR. Beautifully smooth and it didn't slow down.
The first drop is mental... Being flung out of your seat and plunging so steeply is fantastic, a true "holy ****" moment.
I waited an average of 10-20 min each time so plenty of rides... Back right hand is the money seat so returned to that one many times.

As for the marketing, I noticed the spiel you heard at the park entrance called it a "One of a kind super hybrid wooden coaster", so obviously they are mindful it's not a true woodie.

Anyway, the coaster really sures up the parks fairly solid coaster line up, i hope it serves the park well having a proper world beater in it's midst.
