So did anyone see the picture SFGAm posted of the lift support and inverting g-crunch hill thing is going to look?

I really hate being mobile at this moment. They did some finalized artwork for that area and I must say, the lift support is very Intamin.

Six Flags Great America modifies Goliath

I recommend everyone check out photos posted by SFGAm on twitter or Facebook of their new final version of Goliath. They have made some significant changes to the structure, mostly involving the lift. Looks like they will be using steel for part if the structure. If you have seen them, then what do you think of the changes? I think visually it looks very cool and unique. Will definately make the ride stand out even more.

^I merged CPSFMMCW's post since Intricks already mentioned the changes here and we don't really need another topic about Golaith's construction.

Here's are the photo's they're talking about.

The park also released a new POV animation with the changes.

I mean, it does look kinda cool, but it's still pretty weird and unusual. I definitely prefer the classic wooden structure. This design looks like it'll be bothering to look at in real life...meh

Definitely agree. It's a wooden coaster, so can it at least have a wooden structure please? :p

Does anyone know the reason why the park decided to change it? Their FB page says it's the "final design artwork."

Also, here's some more concept art that I saw on the parks FB page.

I have to agree. Obviously Goliath is far from a conventional wooden coaster, but something about the lift's appearance is just off-putting. It seems out of place when the rest of the ride looks like a traditional woodie. Maybe it'll look better in real life, but as of right now I'm not a fan of it.

Interesting. Hammers home even more how this is definitely not a wooden coaster.

ECG - Sorry about that last post with all the pictures you already had. Took me a bit of time to gather all the pictures, but I guess you beat me to it and I failed to see while I was writing. :)

That support structure is majorly **** ed up. Looks cool, but trippy as hell.

Posted while reading your mind.

Slightly Off topic: Seeing RMC is using steel structure makes me hopeful that if that Lake monster happens at Darien Lake it could still be an RMC and not necessarily a GG because they were supposedly wanting a Steel Structure

On Topic: I like this. It's just weird, but good weird. Different Weird. Appealing Weird.

I absolutely love the new look. I'm still afraid this a won't open until closer to July 4 weekend, but I hope I'm wrong.

Re: RE: Six Flags Great America | Goliath | RMC Woodie

Look at progress and weather this year. Three months is a long time still, but I have little faith in Six Flags to get this open by Memorial Day weekend.

I'm not gonna lie, I loved the classic look this ride had previously.
Again, I'm not gonna lie, this new structure looks totally awesome!

If it was my choice I would probably have a hard time choosing between them.

Between the topper track, and now the new structure, at what point is it just cheaper/easier/better to just build a steel coaster?

^As I understand it these things cost about $10 million, which is half of what a similarly sized B&M would cost. Outlaw Run was also the only woodie to beat 'Favourite Steel Coaster' on Mitch Hawker this year.

Does anyone else reckon this redesign is down to them trying to speed up construction?

Depends, you could probably get something similar in height and length for the same money, but obviously no B&M. I think the aesthetics is the reason for going with RMC, parks want the look of a wooden coaster, but still not the cost of keeping it up.

This thing seems to be pushing the wooden coaster "look" of it, but still this is Six Flags, they probably love the uniqueness of it.
