Saw Tron earlier today. I quite liked it, storyline was ok, acting was decent (Jeff Bridges <3) 3D was good in adding depth and realism (?) and it was good, but not the best.

^Being John Malkovich is great. Really enjoyed that one & I need to see it again as it's been years since I watched it.

Watched The Kids Are All Right with the wife the other night.
It's not one for the kiddies & I suggest that you don't watch this one with your parents.
I'm not really sure how feasible the plot is (Nic?) but still liked it quite a bit. Great performances all around & enough laughs to keep it from getting too heavy.

I'm sure almost everyone on CF has seen both, but we also finally got around to convincing Aidan to watch Toy Story 3 & Shrek Forever After over the weekend. No need to get into anything other than saying we all enjoyed both much more than the two previous films (Toy Story 3 & Shrek the Third).

Saw True Grit last night. The movie was amazing, the acting was great, and the story was amazing. But that not including the main ****ing character that damn girl. She was obnoxious, not the actress, just the character. There is nothing that can ruin a movie more than an annoying character. Other than her the movie was eventful, and not as bloody as I first expected. But still, amazing.

Hmmm, from what people have said, I guess I shouldn't spend £13 to go see TRON then... :p

Right, I said a while back that I'd post the films I've seen recently, but then my netbook went boom. So, here I am now, with even more to post:

Gothika. It wasn't a good choice of film upon reflection - the film was highly cliché, rather boring, had a dull storyline and had little to excite me. Halle Berry, however, was delectable. I wouldn't recommend this film to anybody, really...

4/10

Rear Window. It was a very good film, and certainly had a lot of tension built up by the brilliant Hitchcock techniques. The story was flowing, and the acting superb. I really can see why this one is one of Hitchcock's best, simply brilliance from start to finish. A must see.

10/10

Burlesque. I went into the film knowing it wasn't the kind of film I would choose to watch on a regular basis, but, having said that, I did enjoy many of the raunchy performances...naturally. The dancing = superb, Christina Aguilera's singing = amazing, storyline = awful, Cher = awfully plastic. Oh well.

6/10

Monsters vs Aliens. It was ok, but probably one of my least favourite Dreamworks animations that I've seen. The plot was a bit dull, humour few and far between, and it seemed really short. A shame, but still enjoyed.

6/10

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. It was ok, if a bit long. I don't think children could understand it much as it's quite a full-on film, but I suppose it was watchable. I felt it was too long, but needingly so to get the whole story in without cuts. Anna Popplewell is some really nice middle-class totty though *drools*.

Miaow :)

I actually really want to see Burleseque. I Read a stonking review of it in GT today. It may involve 2 hours of Xtina and her excessive use of high notes and vibrato but hey, the film looks as camp as a Christmas tree topped with a Tiara so i'm sure I will enjoy it no end...

What confuses me about Burlesque is that they nabbed inspiration (read: title, beat) from a Marilyn Manson song...

Just... WHY?

Sorry, now I am a little confused... HOW?

The film is inspired by Burlesque houses which have been running for years. Long before Mr Manson. How do you mean? Im not attacking btw, im just unsure in what context you mean. Im not a huge Manson fan ya see...

^One of the songs from the film is based off of one of his songs...

It's one of the more random things I've heard in recent times... I probably should of made it more clear I was on about one of their songs rather than the film itself...

Just seen the new Tron film.

Really enjoyed it, its stunning to look at and the story is there not really sure why people are saying its weak.

The sound track is great and fits the film perfectly.

All in all a great film and well worth the hype it got.

Finally got to see Inception last night. Clever film great effects, worth the hype no tbh just wanted them to hurry up at the end just went on and on. The ending for me was very much like Blade Runner, the is he is he not question.

So yeah it was a good film, in a rush to see it again nope.

^Yay for more Tron love! I really do need to go see it again.

I've been watching a few of my new blu-rays and I also went to the cinema today. First up, Home Alone on blu-ray.

First of all, the conversion is really good but they didn't do a great film neg clean up for the first 20 mins of the film. The film itself is exactly how I remember it, fantastic family fun, just enjoyable for the whole family. It's very well made and one you can watch again and again.

Rating: 4/5

Bad Lieutenant: Port of call: New Orleans on blu-ray.

This is one for my "Nic Cage is a bloody looney" collection. This is probably his most absurd role ever and he excels at being a great cop which a really bad addiction. There are some totally surreal scenes and I think it's just hilarious. "Why are there iguanas on my coffee table?"

Rating: 4.5/5

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on blu-ray.

Awesome film, I saw it twice at the cinema and now I can watch it whenever I want, it so well made. The style is exciting and energetic which some fantastic gags in there, plenty of colourful characters, a fantastic soundtrack and epic special effects. I love it so much. I also watched a small selection of the extras and I still can't get over how much they have fitted on to one blu-ray disc, it's insane. 5 commentary tracks, loads of deleted scenes (with commentary), a massive making of (which is awesome), special effects before/after and loads more. I look forward to looking into more of the extras on the disc.

Rating: 4.5/5

Gullivers Travels

Wasn't expecting much from this over-advertised family film. I can find Jack Black very hit and miss but he works really well in this film and it just works. The mass of British comedians adds to the films coolness and the special effects are really good (however in the odd scene here and there it lacks). I really enjoyed it because it's just fun. Really recommend for families.

I saw Expendables. It was balls. Bruce and Arnold might aswell have not bothered to turn up for one...

So I have my new system. 5 areas. Each area can gain 0 - 2 points max.

Audio was nice and bassy, but 2.1? Marks down. 1.
Visual's were reasonable. Shot well. 2.
Narrative. Poorly connected, but you could get it in the end. 1.
Acting. It was pretty standard... 1.
USP's. Well none... just your average action picture. 0.

5/10.

I saw Inception. Very cool concept. Very very cool. Left us thinking. Its a shame it was quite boring. Still managed to rate it high though.

A: 2. Made the most of the audio.
V: 2. Stunning. That floaty stunt was awesome. The bending city was awesome.
N: 1. Well we did get it eventually. Was over-complicated.
A: 1. Yeah I fould the acting good. I don't like Leonardo, but it didn't wreck it.
U: 2. Totally different. Max points.

8/10.

Not sure about my rating system now... may drop it. lol.

Good Will Hunting

I randomly downloaded this after my dad was talking about it the other day, and I thought it was really good. The storyline and characters were very believable, and although Will is kind of a "bad boy" you still can't help but root for him to get his life on track. I also loved the bond between Sean and Will, and I loved how he was not only trying to be a therapist to Will, but he also learned a lot about himself and his own life from the sessions. The end made me cry, the film had some beautiful quotes in it, I liked all the characters, and just a really good film overall.

Tron Legacy

Any film with TWO Jeff Bridges gets my high approval... Plus it's full of shiny lights and Michael Sheen being generally amusing...

I enjoyed it... It's a very good film in my opinion and does seem to continue the trend of 80s films returning in a rather interesting way...

It's a very pretty film to watch when on the Grid... Although sometimes too bright, it's certainly a visual feast, complimented by Daft Punk's rather funky soundtrack that ebbs and flows into the film... Although there was one point when it suddenly appeared rather out of nowhere against the previous scene's mood... However, considering it isn't my favourite genre, I enjoyed the music...

The ending was a bit... "Hmmmm k", as was the middle being rather 'talky', but some very impressive scenes (the Light-Cycles and Light-Planes in particular) made it all good...

Plus Jeff Bridges is made of complete win...
