Music Recommendations

Get ready for another venture into obscurity with jer.

This month we have The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand. This album is a mix of many genres including, drone, metal, ambient, shoe gaze, indie, and many more. Never before have I listened to music that had so much going on, but still sounded amazing, the static guitars mixed with the light vocals is genius. But who am I to say, listen for yourself and decide.

Ok, I like Sigur Ros, but I always found it abit of a chore to listen to an entire album, or anything. I'd ned to be in the mood.

BUT NOW! Jonsi (the lead singer) has released his solo album Go. And I have to say it's brilliant!! It's like a more listenable Sigur Ros, simply a stunning, non-stop emotional brilliant album! Highly highly recommend.

Ooooh, that's really cool. I hadn't heard about this. Although, I do lessthanthree Sigur Ros (and can happily listen to a whole album! :p ) so am a bit biased. I know what you mean though, it is essentially the same, but more accessible. Well, that song anyway. Would be interested to hear the rest of the album.

Noone's going to listen or pay any attention, but I'm going to post it anyway.

Good job i'm here then, because i've been wondering what The Lost was going to sound like!

Also, while i'm at it, i'm going to mention Miike Snow. I know they were mentioned a while back, but i've listened to them more since and they deserve more of a mention. Its basically an American bloke, with two Norwegians messing about with synths and electronic stuff in the background. It works really well though, and ends up being a nice chilled sort of electro vibe, like someone's gone and remixed a standard indie song or something.

This one's called Silvia.

Going to plug these again:

Turbowolf- Ancient Snake:

Subsource- The Ides

They should do well, debut album out.

^That Subsource stuff is a bit mental! Its like someone's just thrown their whole record collection at a stereo and its played some of it all. I'm not convinced I like it, but its certainly eclectic!

I'm going to post a track by Handsome Boy Modeling School, which has been about for a while now, but no matter how many times I listen to it, it never ceases to amaze me! It is a work of absolute genius. Its not just a piece of music, its a whole study of music in one track. Every time you listen to it, it just keeps revealing more and you keep making more connections. Everyone needs to listen to this, its essentially making the point that all music's come from the same roots, no matter what style etc.

Any John Powell fans on here?
Had no idea there were other soundtrackphiles on here! I've really loved John Powell since Horton Hears a Who, and this score really didn't disappoint. Some fabulous stuff there, and I think it's the biggest reason the film is as good as it is.

There's also a Jónsi track on the playlist - he did the credits song, and I've since bought the album, and I think my favourite has to be:

And for Robbeal, I was talking to a friend about your link, and he then linked me to this, I think you might like it.

Who knew strings + rap = win?

Oh yeah, rap and strings can work, but the Handsome Boy Modeling School track is so much more than just rap & strings working together.

If you want rap & strings, then Flobots are the way forward.

We Are Winning combines the two, plus some very motivational lyrics too.

Its the sort of rap that people who don't like rap still like.

Coming Up Song Releases

As you may know, I am extremely interested in the music industry, on the sales side of things, plus I listen to the charts and midweeks every week, that's how sad I am  I always like to catch up with Labels to see if any acts have been signed or dropped, and I am a member of the street team for a variety of artists I like.
Anyway to the point, members should post songs they like here which are not released yet (to help promote them )

I have a couple to start
Mini Viva - One Touch, I thought it was a shame to see their second single "I Wish" flop like that after the commercial success of "Left My Heart In Tokyo"

Cascada - Pyromania, also a shame to see the two singles after "Evacuate The Dancefloor" flop "Dangerous" and "Fever", which I thought were smashing! It's also sad that ETDF alone outsold the album. Hopefully the new sound some take as a "Gaga knock off" should do them justice, they do take it as a compliment if you say they're like Gaga, but 1: they're a group, 2: There histories and styles are totally different.

This is the most recent one I've heard that I quite like :)

^While you're here, i've finally listened to the most recent Athlete album, and discovered that Love Come Rescue is a beautiful track!

Every listen plz.

It's a bit different from their first self titled album...much more noisey. Still good though.

I've been obsessively listening to Edith Piaf over the last few days, building up to finally watching La Vie en Rose.

Such a legend!
