Music Recommendations

My favourite band of the moment, The Qemists.

For the fan of Pendulum or The Prodigy, my personal favourite track (though it is up against mean compeition) is Lost Weekend featuring friggin' legend Mike Patton, who recently reformed with his popular band Faith No More

Give it a shot. If you don't like it, take a shot at 'The Perfect High', that's a right tune.

I'd also recommend 'Stompbox'. You can find that one yourself. :--D

Here's one from what I think is an under-rated band, they are <img> brilliant!

Here is a more upbeat song from C&C, it has a distinctive classical rock style, I definately recommend this to fans of bands such as Iron maiden and Metallica.

I can never really decide about C&C... I've been trying to get into them for years, but just can't. Some of their songs are really good, but others just dirgy and dull. Very hit and miss... May give them another solid try. I found them at the same tame as Queen Adrena who I also struggle to love (though 'Pretty Like Drugs' is good).
I wasn't really fond of them until I discovered there recent album, "No world for Tomorrow", there isn't one song I actually dislike on the album, there's always a few for me, but NWFT stoked me. They're arguably my favourite band, I just find it a shame that when I say to people "Coheed & Cambria" they're like "huh?".

They're just generally catchy rock songs, which I love! :)

They have a new album coming next year, "Year of The Black Rainbow", if it's anything like No World For Tomorrow I'm seeing them live without a doubt!

They might have been mentioned already, I might've done it myself actually, but i've just got hold of The XX's current album, and its awesome. Its really basic and lo-fi sounding, and pretty hard to describe really. It works so much better as a whole piece of music than individual tracks though. Its a proper atmospheric album, one that you can just drift off listening to. Gorgeous.

OMG! Thank you Bezzzzzer! What a great band! Been listening non-stop since yesterday :p

Just thought I'd recommend myself lol. Sorry seems a bit up myself, but there doesn't seem to be the 'life outside' thread or whatever it was called any more :(.

Anyway, if you like film scores and or chill-out / trip hop type stuff, you may like some of my compositions. I've posted some on here before, but I have recently finished a new website showcasing some of my latest music.

Hope you like :)

Cheers,
Nick.

It's good to see Sky Larkin get a mention in there! They used to release stuff on Dance To The Radio, so I used to listen to them quite a lot.
And I didn't realise Jack Peñate's second album did so badly in the charts, either.

As for my recommendations, Vampire Weekend's second album Contra goes on sale next week, but has been streaming on MySpace this week.
It's a pretty solid album, just expanding what we already know of them. "Experimentation" comes in form of auto-tune and even softer synth pads.
You'll probably like it if you liked their self-titled debut. If you haven't listened to them before though, I'd recommend listening to their first album first.

Listening to their new album also convinced me to listen to keyboardist/guitarist Rostam Batmanglij and Wes Miles (of Ra Ra Riot)'s side project Discovery, and their 2009 album LP.
Although sharing barely any instruments (if any) with Vampire Weekend, the melodies do sound quite similar, if not with a more R'n'B feel, with drum machines and handclaps a-plenty.
I'd recommend listening to it if you can; it's on Spotify.

I mentioned The XX on the previous page, but I just have to post a couple of tracks to make sure people realise just how stunning their music is. Its like nothing else out there, its a bit indie, but there's some soul influences there, and some R&B-style rhythms and a subtle electronic influence in there too. The 'Intro' track on their album is the most perfect piece of music i've heard in years, apart from one thing, its too short! The other track i'll post is 'Infinity', and when you get past its glaring similarity to 'Wicked Game' by Chris Isaak, its another stunning track. Dark, emotional and awesome. The female singer, Romy Madley-Croft (pretty much all their tracks work on an interplay of male & female vocals) has possibly the best female voice out there at the moment, so beautiful.

Anyway, please listen, its worth it.

I couldn't agree more Rob.

I been listening to them a fair bit since you mentioned them and they really are so unique and different.

As usual you manage to find gems in rusty buckets of nails!

Lady Sovereign! Hahaha. **** ing class!

I have NOT been subjecting myself to Big Brother, but seeing her name everywhere recently inspired me to listen to her Public Warning album again. I listened to it loads when it came out, but had forgotten about her until now.

Go ahead and hate...

I know Lerwill will have posted this before but it needs repeating!

I don't think that the song's very new, but then again it might be.

But I really love the song Silvia - Miike Snow.

I think it'l only be great for y'all, if you're into that kind of music, and I have to be honest, I wouldn't know What genre to put it in. There's just something about it for me. I know some of his other stuff is good too.

A little while ago the drummer in my band introduced me to Porcupine Tree. I got their album The Incident after, and if anyone likes prog rock or something a little different I would highly recommend it. Stand out tracks are The Blind House, Drawing the Line and Time Flies. The best thing is to listen to the whole album together, as it was written to be one 55 minute song, and it really works. I went to see them at O2 Academy Newcastle after, and they play the whole album, even better live IMO. Also see the album Fear of a Blank Planet, really good stuff.

Porcupine Tree is know as the greatest band in the world that no one has heard of.
They're one of my all time favorite bands & Steve Wilson is amazing. They've been around forever & have over a dozen releases that range from progressive rock to almost ambient music. Their earlier work was hugely influenced by Pink Floyd & they drifted further away from that over the years. I've been to 8 performances in NYC & have all of their releases, as well as Steve Wilson's other bands:No-Man & Blackfield, who I also saw performing live.

I've just downloaded that track actually. I'd listened to it a couple of times but wasn't convinced, but its slowly growing on me, and its just a bit different and cool. Nothing groundbreaking like, but still worth a crafty listen. A bit like Delphic really, who everyone seems to be obsessing over at the moment. They're good, worth a listen, but they're not going to change the landscape of music.

What a lovely riff at the end, so raw.
