Mitch Hawker's Polls 2011 - Results Out (Page 2)

Re: Mitch Hawker's Polls 2011 (Wood Polls open!)

Mountain Flier was a definite world class ride, but it just didn't blow me away as much as I was expecting. The actual size of the thing was underwhelming compared to what I'd been led to believe by the construction photos. My experience was of little airtime - but as I said, I think this was mainly due to severe stapling :(

I'd love to read some other reviews from someone other than us three. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Anyway, I've put in my poll. Given Mountain Flier a fairly high score, but not as much as my beloved Troy :D

Re: Mitch Hawker's Polls 2011 (Wood Polls open!)

Finally sent in my ballot! Only 8 wooden coasters, I really need to ride more :P And why is it that certain duelling coasters count as one (Stampida) while others count as two (Joris en de Draak)? Anyway, here's my vote:

1) Favourite steel
2) Troy
3) Colossos
4) Stampida
5) Joris en de Draak
6) Rutschebanen
7) Rutschebanen
8) Balder
9) Robin Hood

Megafobia Oakwood UK,y,y,3
Tonnerre de Zeus Parc Asterix FR,y,n,4
Roar SF Discovery Kingdom CA,y,n,5
GhostRider Knott's Berry Farm CA,y,n,6
Grand National Blackpool UK,y,n,7
Wild Mouse Blackpool UK,y,n,8

Only actually rode one woodie this year, Megafobia. Still have yet to ride Gwazi with the new trains, as my only memory of it at the moment is that it tried to kill me.

Re: Mitch Hawker's Polls 2011 (Wood Polls open!)

I'm just bumping this to make sure people vote. Every year people moan about the poll being swayed in a certain person's favour but unless we do something about it by VOTING HONESTLY it'll always be that way! :P

Here's the easy ballot generator! NO EXCUSES. You have until the 22nd!

Re: Mitch Hawker's Polls 2011 (Wood Polls open!)

As if they count that Tubtwist ride at Yarmouth as Wooden coaster!

Re: Mitch Hawker's Polls 2011 (Wood Polls open!)

Urgh, Toro won <///3

How does it keep winning, it's crap. And I barely know a handful of people that rate it higher than Dash.

Oh, wait, TPR.

STILL.

If it had been included, Mountain Flyer would have come second, spiting Boulder Dash and T Express <3

Although, I swear the minimum rider amount used to be lower than it is now. Which is just spite. I blame TPR.

Re: Mitch Hawker's Polls 2011 (Wood Polls open!)

So as you can tell from Ben's somewhat bitter (<3) post, the results are now out:

1 El Toro - SFGAd
2 T Express - Everland
3 Boulder Dash - Lake Compounce
4 The Voyage - Holiday World
5 Phoenix - Knoebel's
6 Ravine Flyer II - Waldameer
7 El Toro - Freizeitpark Plohn
8 Balder - Liseberg
9 Troy - Toverland
10 Colossos - Heide Park
11 Prowler - Worlds of Fun
12 Thunderhead - Dollywood

Kind of love that I've been on all but one of the top twelve. I think the "right" coasters are in the top, though personally I would order them a bit differently (1.Boulder Dash, 2.T-Express, 3.El Toro).

This is where everyone moans about their favourite, or the only one in the top ten that they've been on, not winning. Bitch away!

I still dont get it.

T Express had 24 riders thats all but came 2nd. Is it really that good ? I know the votes are counted from other years to get an overall result.

The results seem okay to me. There's no arguing with those top 6, I don't think, just the order of them. I put Ravine Flyer first and cannot see how anyone could think Phoenix is better, but I can see how people would think Toro and Voyage are. Boulder Dash MUST be good given how much praise it gets (I'll find out this year...) and T-Express I guess is like Toro.

But yeah, Ravine Flyer is a perfect woodie and ...Yeah, should be first. It's like Voyage, but not so long it becomes annoying.

T express is meant to be like the best part of Toro and balder.

It must actually be the best in the world as look how many have been on it compared to the rest and look where it is. If it had more riders it would take top spot easy.

It's not based on number of votes, otherwise the coasters with more riders would always win. It's based on comparing rides against each other. It's to do with the percentage of ride comparisons.

Say 20 people have ridden both T-Express and Voyage, and the majority of those 20 place T-Express higher, it "wins" the comparison and gets placed higher than Voyage. It's a fairer system that placing Voyage higher simply because more people have ridden it.

It's not an ideal system, and every year the "it only had however many riders" thing comes up. There is no perfect way of carrying out these polls, but this on is still the best there is.

T-Express is a fantastic coaster. The first drop and hill are very "Toro", but I tend to disagree with the Balder comparisons for the second half. I can see where they come from (lots of smaller hills etc.), but the second half of T-Express is miles better than Balder.

The only one that beats it for me, (though El Toro comes close) is Boulder Dash. That's largely down to the terrain aspect and having a lot more "personality" than the Intamin prefabs.

Here's the thing, I understand why it's below Toro, T-Express, Boulder Dash, and Voyage. I don't understand how it's under Phoenix. Especially since the rides are so close to one another, they must share a lot of mutual riders who are placing Phoenix higher. Why? Is this nostalgic overrating?

Does anyone here think Phoenix is better than Ravine Flyer? And why?

I didn't think Phoenix was better than The Antelope to be honest.

...Lmao the Antelope is SOO bad. I put it LAST. </3 Phoenix is better. A lot better. But it's no where near what the Americans rave.

So yeah, I'm going to say it's nostalgic overrating.

I didn't vote it higher but it definitely has some good qualities. Personally, I love the airtime feeling on it. Just out of control, throwing you around with no seat belts.. it's just a good time. I don't really have any nostalgia for the ride.. as I don't give a **** if it's brand new or 300 years old.. a good ride is a good ride. On the other hand, I don't see how people can vote it better then RFII and the like.

Phoenix is amazing <3.

I don't think the list is TOO bad this year... the only one I really don't think should be where it is is Toro, but then a hell of a lot of people obviously love it so perhaps I'm wrong. I used to love a bit of Intamin pre-fab, but then some decent GCI coasters got into my life and I realised they're rather bland.

Feel like such a CELEB being one of the Mountain Flyer riders <3.

I just went to look for where Beast resides.

47 </3

It's awesome people are crazy.

And the Lightning racers are in the 30s... with Megafobia sat between them, seriously?

^ Megafobia is always grossly overrated. Actually, hasn't it been in the top 10/15 a couple of times?! </3.

I put Lightning Racer(s) quite high on my ballot because they're fierce...
