Mitch Hawker Polls 2008 - Full Results In

I have to be honest I do not really like the way this poll has been done.

Scorpion at BGE is in my top 10 coasters yet its not on the list!

^ Well it is, it's under that heading of "Fav Loop. Star/S.Arr."
But yeah, it's a bit vague as Gavin pointed out earlier.

It is very vague really as I would like to list 2 of them and they are not the same but both come under that heading.

The random groupings is definitely where Mitch Hawker's poll falls down. Not only does it unfairly bias groups with fairly equal coasters higher on the list than they would otherwise be (i.e. B:TR Clones, standard SLCs) but the varying groups such as Wild Mice cannot be accurately reflected with just one listing. I've got 76 coasters separating my favourite and my least favourite wild mouse, so it's very difficult to accurately reflect that.

I really don't understand either why Mitch Hawker just doesn't sit down one evening with rcdb and properly update his poll with the countless rides he doesn't have, not mention splitting out the XC2000/3000 coasters which contain several different rides, which should not be lumped together at all.

Anyway, mine both done now, Dueling Dragons: Fire still my favourite steel, but I'm determined that it shall be its last year at the top. Grand National my favourite woodie, long may that reign though!

I just had an idea that it would be easier for everyone if he would combine his poll with a coaster count page.

First you can select every coaster you have ridden.
Then you rank them as you add them to your coaster count.
And then on a certain date every year he could just collect the rankings from every member and do his poll from that data.

Then this would be the easiest way for everyone. No more cutting and pasting in a Text editor/excel software anymore, or any other problems, etc. that usually comes up.

But, then he'd probably have to re-write he algorithm to cope with the change in the data format, and I always get the impression that he doesn't have all that much spare time.

Besides, what would he do about grumpy people like me who refuse to use coaster counter because it's a load of turd?

Sorry Mr Cold, but Mr Nash has dropped off my top this year. The ride at the live was abysmal. Megafobia during the ERT earlier in the year though was blindingly good (literally).

I even rate Balder better than the Nash this year!

Also, I've finally replaced Nemesis at the top with Oblivion. I just enjoy Oblivion so much more at the moment. Hoping Kahn can upset that apple cart though :)

Well if you're going to be silly and rate rides based on the very last experience you had then you shouldn't really be allowed to take part. I mean, Nemesis was hardly in it's most spectacular fashion last Sunday, but it's still obviously better than Oblivion.

And you should have high hopes for Dragon Khan, it's about the only thing in PA worth doing

Voted a while ago, because I was sick and couldn't move so I had hours to use the coasterfanatics helper. Next year I'm switching to text I think....

Phonix was my top wood followed by Boulder Dash. Superman at SFNE was my top steel followed by Maverick. My least favorite wood was Mean Streak and steel was Dragon Fire.

Here's to Phoenix being in the top 5 and Maverick beating Millie Force!

his poll just seems some confusing, there has to be a simpler way lol

I don't see what's confusing about it.
You put your favourite rides in order, then give that order to Mitch, who then puts all of the ballots into a formula thing and generates a list of everybody's favourite rides.

What's confusing about that?

If you mean a simpler way to cast your vote, then there is!:

You can't get much easier than ticking a few boxes!

steel poll size

Hi All,

Thanks to those who have already voted in the polls. Anyone else has through December 5th to send in their ballot.

I should do a better job of explaining why the steel poll is the way that it is...what it comes down to is that the data structure becomes too large for the program to handle at about 409 coasters (this generates over 167,000 head to head comparisons).

There are about 4 times this many steel coasters in the world. We do try hard to include all of the major unique rides but I guarantee that someone's favorite will always be left out.

Even if I could include every steel coaster, it is certain that some of those who think that the steel ballot is difficult to complete now (due to its size) would not want to fill it out if it were four times as long.

Cheers,

MH

We appreciate it Mitch. The poll is brilliant and there is no comparison in the Industry tbh.

Bravo. :)

I feel disappointed at how little my ballot has changed since last year! I think I need to improve next year, lol.

There were two many 'n's in my 2nd column.

This explains a lot....thanks! It would be awesome if one day you were able to include every single coaster in the poll, but this poll is still the best!

Did anyone really doubt that T-Express wouldn't win :)

Now for the result of the Steel pool...

I have to personally disagree with the lack of Thunder Coaster in the wooden top then, mind you I havn't ridden it since they re-tracked it, has it ruined it?

Thundercoaster is actually ranked higher this year then last. But if you only look on the result from people that have ridden the coaster this year, then it's all the way down at 61:st. So it have definitely become worse after the re-tracking, and I agree.

Interesting to note that for the first time ever, a wooden rollercoaster has won this poll, rather than the My Favourite Steel Coaster option.

Although Balder at 5 is a joke frankly.
