You'll never guess what prompted me to post this topic.

So anyway, thought this could generate some interesting discussion. It seems that when somebody big (like MJ) or somebody like Jade Goody dies, the jokes start coming in. Is this right or is it just funny? Or do you laugh at the jokes but inside feel really bad for doing so?

I'm going to go with yes, it's hilarious. But really it's not about the joke, but about the appropriateness of the situation. but that's the same with any joke.

Well, I always receive them after such celebs die i.e MJ, Jade Goody etc, and I do laugh, but it's often in bad taste. Some people just don't have any sympathies for those mourning or anything...

I think they are alright, as long as they are actually funny. Most of the MJ ones I've heard or seen so far haven't been funny though, mostly they are too predictable.

I have to be honest and say I do not like it. When Senna died the jokes took about an hour to get round and it really upset me.

That is people being inconsiderate, respect other peoples views, I will admit I do know a harsh MJ joke but will not share it unless asked to and there is no way I am going to share it on CF so don't ask.

Noo, I think most of you who have seen me get mad about people making fun of celebrities dying will know I don't like this kind of thing. I think it's stupid, I mean, you have to consider the fact that although they were celebrities, they have families who are just as upset as you would be if your family member died. I bet if someone on here had someone close to them die, and someone else started making jokes about it, it'd upset the person who had the family member die, and the person making the jokes would probably get in trouble, so what makes it more acceptable to make jokes about a dead celebrity?

To me, it's all about the joke.

If it's clever and/or funny, then it's a good joke and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm PRETTY sure the celebrity isn't going to pop out of their grave and attack the living world going "STOP MAKING THOSE JOKES."

However, if the joke is terrible and unfunny, I slap them and say MJ is going to make you beat it.

No, I don't mind them at all. I agree that some are quite close to the bone at times, but they're only a bit of fun....providing that you do not personally know the dead person!

I don't know any celebs therefore I enjoy the jokes doing the rounds.

Hell yeah.

Yes, sometimes the stories of their death can be "sad", but, no matter who they are, you didn't bloody well know them, so, get over it, and have a joke. It's not like the friends and family who are actually grieving are going to hear you.

I'll say that I'm not adverse to a few good jokes about such a situation, I didn't like Jade Goody and I couldn't really give a **** about Wacko, either, so for me it's all fair game.

I don't particuarly care, I'll make jokes, its all light hearted until someone goes out of their way to try make you look a twat because your 'inhuman' for making jokes.

So yes I do like dead celebrity jokes, but I have to watch where and when I say it, as some people just get too easily offended sometimes.

Well, I might laugh if they're really funny (Looking at you Harvey), but I don't particularly care for them. They just seems rude and in bad taste. Whether or not you knew them personally, it's just not cool to make fun of someone who died... Unless it was over 25 years ago, then it becomes hilarious.

One of the largest celebrities ever, is found "innocent" in an AMERICAN court of law, and you assume that makes it the right verdict? Bless.

They are hillarious, and closer to the death the better.
I know soo awful jokes, some me them are knocking around do here now.
Besides, he and Jade deserve it for their sins.
MJ picked his jury and them dress up, and payed his victim 20 million dollars. For that much I'd let him shag my child...
Sorry I cant help it!

I love them!

Even if they're in bad taste, they can be really clever and inventive... and if they're extremely offensive/crude, it makes them even funnier because of the shock factor.
