IMG theme park...

... am I the only one constantly thinking about the good old <IMG> tags that appeared whenever you quoted a "censored" smiley at these forums back in the days? Whenever I see "IMG" written out, I can't help but thinking it hides a swear word.

Not a bad choice for your only coaster.

Isn't Dubai going to turn out like Spain eventually? Sunny and popular for a while but eventually people will get sick of it and visitor numbers will dwindle.

Re: IMG Theme Park, Dubai UAE | "Unknown" | Mack Launched

^No not really, because not everyone can go to Dubai the way you can go to spain. Also Dubai always has something new and exciting to do unlike spain. The visiter numbers are going up and have been for a long time. Don't judge Dubai before you go, it's an amazing place.

Limited access is definitely a bonus ;)

That sounds like that other place about thirty years ago. What was the name of it again? Spain, that's the one! ;)

I already have been! Don't judge the travel history of other members.

Well if you have already been why did you question if Dubai was going to turn out like Spain?
Calm down and stop looking for an argument over nothing.

I'm just going to throw this out there:

Fu(k Dubai.

Like far too much of the Middle East, it's been built on the backs of quasi-slavery. Ultra-poor from places like Pakistan, India, Somalia, etc are recruited and promised jobs, and upon arrival have their passports confiscated by the businesses they work for, and are forced to work 80-hour-plus work weeks for pennies a day. Meanwhile, the Arabs collect all of the profits and do virtually no work at all. When you see PSAs about human trafficking, this is EXACTLY what they are referring to.

I lived in Bahrain for a year and saw it all first hand, and Dubai is one of the worst offenders.

Re: IMG Theme Park, Dubai UAE | "Unknown" | Mack Launched

^But then my argument to this is they are still much better off than they ever would be in their home countries and they are earning an income to feed their family's, yes SOME companies may exploit this but not many anymore, either way by working Dubai they are at least earning money.

I have also lived in the middle east(Dubai) and a lot of it is really over hyped by the media, the working rights now are a lot better than what they were, maybe it's because it was brought up by the media, but in the end it's their choice.

Looks like this cred is defs going to be open when I go in September.

That's the problem. It wasn't their choice. They were lied to by the 'recruiters' to get them to leave home, then couldn't leave after they get to Dubai, or Qatar or Kuwait, or wherever.

I lived there in 2003, so MAYBE it's better now, but since the economy crashed not so long after that, I'd honestly be surprised. I spoke to more than a few of the wage-slaves of Bahrain, and for the most part they didn't like it, but they had no choice to change the situation. Does that mean that their life is better than wherever they came from? I'd say probably not for far too many of them. Some may have had it better in the Middle East, but most had it far worse.

The construction companies were typically the worst offenders, therefore that city was almost literally built on the backs of wage-slaves. They also tended to have the worst living conditions, the worst safety records, etc. Conversely, the ones I interacted with in the service industries tended to have it best and they didn't have it very good.

Re: IMG Theme Park, Dubai UAE | "Unknown" | Mack Launched

^I do agree with you completely here, but not every building in Dubai was built by 'slaves', It's unfair to judge a whole place by a few mistakes, yes the U.A.E did abuse the fact that they could pay the workers pennies.

I don't agree with how the middle east treats it's workers, but I guess that's just the way things are, we now have a world class city, weather people like it or not.

I know it's a bit late, but is that your attempted justification of slavery?

Re: IMG Theme Park, Dubai UAE | "Unknown" | Mack Launched

^It wouldn't be slavery if they are getting paid though would it?
