^But then my argument to this is they are still much better off than they ever would be in their home countries and they are earning an income to feed their family's, yes SOME companies may exploit this but not many anymore, either way by working Dubai they are at least earning money.
I have also lived in the middle east(Dubai) and a lot of it is really over hyped by the media, the working rights now are a lot better than what they were, maybe it's because it was brought up by the media, but in the end it's their choice.
That's the problem. It wasn't their choice. They were lied to by the 'recruiters' to get them to leave home, then couldn't leave after they get to Dubai, or Qatar or Kuwait, or wherever.
I lived there in 2003, so MAYBE it's better now, but since the economy crashed not so long after that, I'd honestly be surprised. I spoke to more than a few of the wage-slaves of Bahrain, and for the most part they didn't like it, but they had no choice to change the situation. Does that mean that their life is better than wherever they came from? I'd say probably not for far too many of them. Some may have had it better in the Middle East, but most had it far worse.
The construction companies were typically the worst offenders, therefore that city was almost literally built on the backs of wage-slaves. They also tended to have the worst living conditions, the worst safety records, etc. Conversely, the ones I interacted with in the service industries tended to have it best and they didn't have it very good.
