Guardians of the Galaxy retheme for Tower of Terror

Like I said, I'm extremely disappointed with Disney's IP scramble. I really liked GOTG, but if they're forcing a theme into a Disney park, it doesn't work out. The only reason this is happening is because Bob Chapek decided that California NEEDS a Marvel attraction. The last attraction Disney made that isn't IP-based was Everest, and that opened over 10 years ago. Disney is worse than Six Flags when it comes to IP'd rides(yep, I said it, and I'm standing by it). If you want a Marvel ride, make a NEW Marvel ride that can stand by itself. They didn't need to destroy one of the greatest themed rides of all time. Disney has the space. Disney has the money. Disney has the power to make a new thing, and they decide to slap a quick IP on it. End rant.

In some minor defense of Ironman - though I agree that it's a crap ride choice - it's just going into Tomorrowland and should actually fit in quite well with the existing aesthetic.

I always got the impression Hong Kong's Tomorrowland was one of the few that was actually thematically consistent. It's difficult to put into words, but it's the only one that doesn't take itself too seriously with its flying saucers and its funky looking spaceships and on paper Iron Man could fit there. The concept art aesthetic falls in between that of Hong Kong's and Shanghai's (which makes sense), but I think it'll almost look like the 'noticeable additions' you get in many Tomorrowland's, most obvious in Tokyo's. Thankfully its there and not in its own miniland.

This is a very odd decision. I mean VERY odd. Tower of Terror is the least fitting ride for GOTG. If anything, Rock n Roller Coaster would have been a better fit by a long shot. Can't they just theme a floor in Disney Quest to Marvel? Cyber Space Mountain really needs a rework.

EDIT: Got mixed with the Orlando location. I really hope they don't even think about it.

^This is the Cali location, but I agree, RNRC could've been a nice fit for a GOTG theme.

Tower of Terror will close in January and the new ride will open summer 2017.

Still a futile decision. All this faff to just to retheme a ride that was perfect beforehand. Build on the Monsters Inc site if you have to, but not this. The rest of Hollywoodland looks pretty awful so I don't mind that turning into Marvel just because anything will be better, but I thought Marvel was supposed to be for the third park...?

THAT EAR...

For me, this still doesn't work and I really hate it.

Guardians of the Galaxy does not lend itself to a 'dropping' experience, in my eyes. It's more about the space flight, aerial battles etc.

A freefall type of experience relies on the core narrative being believable as a 'fall' sensation, a change in direction on a vertical axis, hence why the elevator worked perfectly for this. GotG really doesn't fit to that whatsoever and this is themed on the collector character that literally only appears in the movie for all of 5 minutes? It seems to me that Disney are clutching at straws to get this thing to fit, and it's going to stick out like a sore thumb.

- That video has way more dislikes than likes.

- "Tower Of Terror" was trending on Twitter earlier with the vast majority disapproving of the re-theme.

- Personally I had never heard of Guardians Of The Galaxy until this came along.

- That visual of the exterior looks ****.

Seems like a great decision, Disney!

Oh god this is actually happening? Wow.

Just hope this doesn't spread like a disease to the other Towers.

I literally hate Disney now. They've made the worst possible decisions recently, and are not listening to fans, they're listening to money.

This has been what they've been doing for almost a decade now if not more. I'm surprised people didn't pick up on this sooner.

At least the version at MGM Studios is still Twilight zone. That was the superior of the 2 versions in the states anyways in my opinion.

It's weird that Disney abandon their own brand in favour of others.

Interesting, I thought it might have been a more temporary overlay, like Ghost Galaxy or the Star Wars thing on Space Mountain, but it looks like they're changing everything including the facade.

Meh, it could be alright? They arn't touching the original tower so I don't really mind. The CA version isn't as good, and tbh I bet a lot of the hate is from the dumb people who think they're doing it to the HS one.

Also, to the people bitching about adding an IP to it.. y'all realise what Twilight Zone is right?! This is taking a ride with an old IP and changing it to a new IP. And if it's part of a larger Marvel land, it could be pretty cool. It would look weird if they added the Marvel land and had a random Twilight Zone ride in the middle of it.

Marvel is Disney now though - it'd be like being annoyed by Pixar in the parks.

Not that Twilight Zone is 'Disney' xD

Disney don't own the Twilight Zone brand - that's why they can't use it in Japan - but they do own Guardians of the Galaxy.
