My vote goes to the newer Dive Machines, primarily because of the greater substance in layout....I just don't see how a 'better' drop can be enough to outweigh a second vertical drop, inversion(s), helices, floorless seating (Well, its good in the outside rows at least) and a water splash (Well, it doesn't make the ride any better, but it is fun for bystanders on a hot day)
While I think the idea of burying a large portion of a drop is a great feat of engineering for a coaster, and has a great visual effect.
However the fact the full height of a newer dive machine is exposed, and hence greater fear can build up from being at such a height is a point in the favour of the newer ones, its not entirely one sided.
In any case, the best part of the drop on a dive machine for me is the way you get thrown out of your seat at the top, and stuck that way on the way down...The newer ones have two such moments, compared to one on the older models, so a big plus for the newer ones there.
