Corkscrew's Inversions to be Part of Entrance Feature

Absolutely love it!

Seriously, I love it.

Now, for the few points I have read over:

I honestly don't think space is going to be an issue. It would appear that the mass majority of the "screws" are way above head height. The only real low point is the centre which will be fenced off. 85% of the artwork will be something you can pass under. I like this idea. Especially knowing it was a real coaster that operated, unlike at Thorpe. Yes, that is geeky, but I love the idea!

The colours... Well, they aren't yellow... BUT in terms of visibility and so on, in yellow they could be more visible and could sway the planning permission (unlikely, but you never know). Purple will blend better in terms of external far out views... (as the planning permission shows). Purple is also the base colour for a lot of the parks signage/marketing/logo and so on. Couple this with the gold that they use. It fits with the branding very well.

Yay for preserving the screws I say!

Pretty much what I was about to say! I can't see why people don't like this, it's awsome!

Well, I like it, and it's pretty much the tribute everyone wanted last year. It's prominent and therefore a great dedication to the coaster. It's not right in front of the entrance, but set between the monorail station and the pay kiosks - there's a LOT of space there.

I reckon it'll look pretty cool :)

I agree with this 100%.

By putting roller coaster track above the entrance it makes a bold statement - we are a theme parks and we do roller coasters. To me, it's a subtle way of moving back to declaring itself as a theme park and not this family bollocks that's we're having to endure year in, year out.

I love it, I really do, with its sexy Vekoma-ness :--D

!!BUT!!

WHY THE HELL ARE THEY PAINTING IT WITH THOSE RIDICULOUS MEANINGLESS COLOURS?!

^ They arn't meaningless colours, they are Alton's main colour scheme, as can be seen on their website.

Ahhh, I didn't think of that (oops!)

Why not yellow? Fair enough, they are Alton's main colour scheme, but if they're going to bother putting up these corkscrews, at least have them in the original colour scheme... Most people I know refer to Corkscrew as being "That yellow one that hurts your head because it's ****". Without the yellow, they'll just refer to it as being "****".

Because if it is bright yellow it would make it more noticeable and would stick out in that area.

If you read the planning permission it suggests that it is possible to see the top part of the structure from areas outside of the park above the tree line. Being bright yellow would make it even more so noticeable which in theory could affect the planning permission!

Yeah, I love the idea too. I liked the idea at Thorpe originally (it just looked a bit comical when they actually put it up) but with this being Corkscrew's actual corkscrews, it'll be all the more cool. I'm not convinced about the colour scheme though. Yeah its Alton's colours, and yeah it'll spruce them up and make them look fresher, but its just not Corkscrew! It'd hold more appeal to me in a historical and nostalgic sense if they left them in the original colours. Repaint them in those colours by all means though!

Ah that's such a cool feature! It definitely is something to remember the ride by for sure, and the public will probably think it's really cool as well, not to mention it suits the whole theme that yah, it's an amusement park, and there are coasters there!

The colours aren't my favourite, but I understand why they picked them, and bright colours might not be the best choice for something put out in front like that.

THATS AWESOME!

Im SO glad they have put it somewhere that stands out as much as this, a fitting tribute to a coaster that single handedly showed the demand for Theme parks within the UK.

be good if the train was lodged in the middle

That would be mega if they done that, I'd guess that they sold the trains though.

I'm all for this, its a wicked idea. Not 100% on the colour, well its a nice colour, but it would have been nice in the original colours too.

(PANTONE 274C)

Lol, thats like a geeky reference to my job, something I never thought would get mentioned on here!

Should look really nice when arriving on the monorail, getting the full view, and then walking down out of the station to see it all head on. Probably won't be so impressive to the coach parties who arrive by walking in from the side, but still, I like it alot!

And in this instance I think the Vekoma track is an advantage, it's more obviously a rollercoaster track than the TriLight lighting stands they use at thorpe ;) (Joking ofcourse before anyone corrects me!)

And most importantly, The colour clearly states that Alton have twinned with Cadbury World! (Another joke)

:)

Hm, I'm 50/50 with all of this, I reckon it's going to spoil the entrance of the park personally. It's a nice idea, but I think what they have already is really welcoming to the park, and I love the fact that you hardly see anything ride related; just gives a unique mystery to it (Spinball did kind of damage this factor).

Planting some huge inversions at the entrance is definately going to kill that something special, especially painting it another colour, personally destroys the nostalgic value of Corky.

Couldn't they have placed the Corkscrews elsewhere, as said before the gardens would have been perfect! The problem is the struggle for space around the park, without detracting from the beauty by planting it by the lake or towers, so I guess they wouldn't have much choice apart from the entrance. I would have loved to see it around Katanga Canyon>Forbidden Valley area in the woods, but due to the trees it wouldn't work without wiping out more nature.

I still think this is really exciting, the more I think about it, the more exciting I think it is.

I love seeing coaster track when I approach a park - it gets me all giddy. I think this is brilliant, as Ian says - it cements Alton as a place to go and ride coasters - something you don't get from the entrance at the moment.

It's also the absolute most fitting tribute to the coaster that put Alton on the map. It's not hidden away out of site - it's right in your face!

Looks... erm... lovely... not hideously rusty at all...

She just wants some loving, even though she's in a bit of a sorry state. Slap some make up on her, maybe buy her a new dress, and she's ready for a night on the town!

It actually looks like there's more track there than just the corkscrews though...
