An update on construction - just about all land clearing has been completed for the old Turnpike Cars location and Good Time Theatre. Nice large room for addition!

So an interesting development today in the LA Times: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=38887

Matt Ouimet, Cedar Fair CEO, mentioned plans in an interview for a series of dark rides across their amusement parks, all of which would fall under an "Amusement Dark" brand. (Remember mention of that trademark?)

The LA Times story says there are no immediate plans for 2016 dark rides. But it does beg the question of if Cedar Point's next attraction would be a dark ride.

Valravn is a supernatural raven in Danish folklore, which points to a possible dive coaster being themed around a diving raven perhaps?

I guess we could very well be seeing a Mystical Creature section retheme soon. Iron Dragon is already mystical, so not much else needs to be done.

I like Valravn as a coaster name, don't get me wrong. I really do, and think it's perfect for a dive machine. However, with Cedar Fair having just done Leviathan, GateKeeper, Banshee, and Rougarou, I feel like they need to branch out a bit more with their branding. Fury 325 didn't even step away from that very much. I would love to see them do things themed to events or locations instead, such as a coaster called Gale Force themed to a storm or something themed to a country's culture. And with Cedar Point having JUST gotten not only a coaster themed to werewolves but one themed to gargoyles (very similar to this griffon-like character I'm seeing depicted as a valravn), I think they could have gone with something else.

The only thing I see justifying this would be if they pulled a Banshee and put elements of viking culture in there, since it's from Denmark. Banshee is mostly themed to the ghost, but there are elements of Celtic aesthetics in there, such as the gaelic on the gravestones and three-ring insignia on the plaza below and the green shamrock items in the tat shop. Maybe have Valravn dive into a hole in the side of a destroyed viking ship supposedly smashed by the Valravn? And have the holding brake face out to the water? They're going to have to theme this somewhat like what they did with Banshee or I think it's going to get repetitive. :/

One thing I would like to see come with this would be a refurb of the marina entrance. I like it as it is, it's nostalgic, but it's dated and I think some TLC would go a long way. Maybe have Valravn go into a massive dive loop by the entrance? Some interaction would be nice.

So a quick update on the site itself.

I failed to snap some photos from my quick visit this past weekend, but there really is nothing to report. Totally flattened dirt surrounded by fencework, making a very low key affair. I'm sure eyes are trained on the site for activity, but as of now nothing new to report.

I have a few I brought back from my trip there this week:

As Hyde has reported, it's flat as a board and nothing but dirt. You can see it really clearly from the top of Rougarou.

Hope it's okay if I double post here since it's been almost a month, but here's some more photos I got from CoasterMania last Friday. The fence is really tall so I stuck my phone on my selfie stick and extended it to peer over it. It's a dumb invention until you're faced with an eight-foot construction wall, huh?

The park has started promoting the ride by building this timeline of their coasters on the fence. Next up should be either Wilderness Run (if they don't save it for 2014 with the name change) or Iron Dragon. I'm guessing they intend to add them at such intervals that they put Rougarou last on the week before the announcement.

Grass is growing back into the plot. So instead of just starting groundwork from the demolition site like Kings Island did with Banshee and Son of Beast, they're just letting it ecologically recover and starting groundwork from a blank slate, it looks like.

The fence goes fairly close to the employee dorms.

There is still some landscaping on the other side of the fence.

It goes right up to the marina entrance.

That really sucks to be a tree in that spot...

It's unfortunate we wont be able to see this really awesome angle again but I bet Valravn makes it awesomer from another angle!

Or should I say, ValSEAGULL? :wink: The little guys seem to love chilling out here. Let's hope they don't try to reclaim Valravn and give it two-toned supports like Raptor has! :lol:

Next time I'm back here will maybe be July, definitely early August for the Live. Can't wait to maybe see some groundwork or footers or B&M track!

^^ I think it is highly accurate seeing as how the site is cleared, we just recently had track appear in the same color and it does coincide with a reasonably soon release packet.

^ A page where drama happens 24/7 in some manner or other, and how everyones opinion is 100% fact. Im talking about Steel Coaster Coinnessuers of course.

Finally, a Dive Machine with a really good length and quantity of elements. I really hope this is the real layout because it looks amazing! I wonder what the height will be and how many seats per row the trains will have. Some of the elements (mainly the weird turnaround thing after the Immelmen) look quite tight for a 10-seater row like Griffon.

Its the Trebel Clef turn like on Fury 325. I think it could potentially be an actual inversion and not just dip to a 91° bank. The Sandusky register has nearly been on point with the coasters seeing as how Gatekeeper was totally leaked by them and nobody believed it.
