What's new

What is your favourite coaster that you’ve only ridden once?

Times like these I'm glad I have the spreadsheet. Sort by ranking, sort by no. of rides.

There's about 20 or so coasters grouped into the highest category that doesn't get a specific ranking, each with a single lap. The reason for most of these though is that they're clones of something great, so rerides weren't necessary or a priority.

Filtering to things of interest I've got Fujiyama and Flight of the Himalayan Eagle Music Roller Coaster.
Two very different hyper coaster experiences, both at parks that made them almost impossible to reride. Thoroughly enjoyed them both, would like another go please.

Twisted Colossus at 13/247. Almost certainly would be higher on rankings if I'd got on it more times, or more recently (last visited in 2015). That day at Magic Mountain was probably one of the most miserable days I've ever had a park; I got on 5 rides total, queued for hours in the baking sun, and generally got made to feel a complete 2nd class citizen for not buying Fastrack. Urgh. At least I got front row for my one ride on it.

In general, I think a ride will always struggle to get super high in my rankings after only one ride. It's so easy to have one anomalous ride - either positive or negative - and the coasters that have impressed me most historically are those which still feel amazing after 5-10 laps.

I can't think of many coasters I like at all that I haven't ridden multiple times over.

The only two I can think of that I've only done once are Steel Curtain (as it's so unreliable) and the defunct Speed: The Ride (as it's pay per rodet). Neither bother my top 20.

Best coasters that i've only ridden once, hmmm?

Stingray: Giant Wheel Park
Phantom's Revenge: Kennywood
Eejanaika: Fuji Q

Those are the three I can think of for now.

I had a really easy answer to this up until about a month ago - Kingda Ka. I had one ride on it in 2014 and it went straight into the Top 10. It was epic!
It was also my 'Best Ever Non-Spite'. Officially the ride was unavailable because Zumanjaro was still under construction at the time, but for some reason they opened it for about an hour in the afternoon on the day I was there and I got my ride. Massive relief, seeing as it was the main reason for me flying to America in the first place.
If that wasn't enough, Ka also forms a major part of my CF origin story. See, after my Ka experience I needed a cigarette break to calm my nerves and fully process what had just happened to me and it was there, in a nearby smoking area, that I overheard two random, bearded goons waffling on about Europa Park. Sensing I was in the presence of enthusiasts, I butted in on their conversation and we got chatting. Turns out those two bearded goons were @Ian and @ECG .
"Have you heard of CoasterForce?" they said.
"Yeah, just some guy going round filming POV's for Youtube innit?"
"Oh no, there's more to it than that" they said, "We have a website and a forum and stuff. We go on coaster trips and get drunk lots. It's great, you should join!"
And that, boys and girls, is the exact moment my CoasterForce journey began. You could even say that if it wasn't for Kingda Ka, I might not even be here now, I might not have met you lot and I almost certainly wouldn't have been on so many crazy adventures since.
So you see, I do have a somewhat personal attachment to the Big Green Penis.
However, all of that is null and void now cos I've just been back there and got a bunch more rides in. 🙄

So my new answer to this question is The Beast at Kings Island. Only ever had 1 ride on it, but we did it right. Last train of the night, no prior knowledge of the layout and total darkness with nothing but the local fireflies to light the way.
A surreal and unforgettable experience.

Only nabbed a ride on Helix two months back. Enough to net #10 overall on rankings!

I feel like for the most part I've been able to ride things multiple times even if it took multiple visits but a definite standout would be Taiga at Linnanmäki. I only had like 3 hours at the park and still managed to ride all the coasters plus the wheel, drop tower, observation tower, and a dark ride.

I genuinely have never, ever, ridden a top 25 coaster and not gone straight back around...

So I was going to say that I think it has to be Pulsar at Walibi Belgium. I really enjoyed it, but obviously didn't want to get too wet, and as I've only visited once, wanted to get the rest of the park done, and plenty of rides on Kondaa.

Then I remembered Busch Gardens Tampa... Where I rode everything once, apart from getting lots of rides on Iron Gwazi... So I guess most of the thrill coasters there make this list, especially SheiKra. (No idea why we only rode it once, I'd wanted to ride it for most of my adult life, and it didn't disappoint... But... Iron Gwazi got in the way I guess.)

I tend to marathon elite coasters, I'll often choose to re ride good coasters over getting new creds in the same park. So there aren't many I've only done once!

Kingda Ka - Done front row early on in the day and figured I'd get back on it at some point. Didn't bother as the queue was quite big and El Toro was a walk on. I loved the ride though and it would probably be top 20 or so if I rode it more.

X2 - Was gutted I couldn't get another ride on this but it had weird opening hours and Six Flags operations. Difficult for me to rank as my only really memory of it was "wtf".

Steel Curtain - Went on a very busy Saturday a couple of weeks after it opened, and it was on one train. It was fairly forgettable tbh. A huge coaster with unique inversions but it was a bit boring somehow.

Well, looking at my signature, it would be Cheetah Hunt. All the other ones in my signature I’ve ridden multiple times. But to be fair, my count is only 8 right now.

I had to do some thinking about this because I don't keep track of individual rides... and I usually get more than 1 lap on the good coasters.

A few come to mind though:
- Gold Rush- Slagharen-- Got the park with only about 45 minutes to play with so just got the bare minimum.
- Wonder Woman- SFFT-- I had arranged a meeting at the park and was essentially escorted on the ride and off again. Couldn't stay.
- Hollywood Dream Backdrop- Universal Japan-- Uni is just so busy all the time. Wasn't going to wait again. But it was a cool experience.
- Bullet Coaster- HV Shenzhen (RIP)-- Operations in China are just pretty terrible in general so I wasn't going to spend another long time waiting when there's other stuff to ride!

Taron and F.L.Y. - It was a busy day and there's a lot in the park to discover (the lines were long too). But since it's my fav park I visited so far I'll definitely make a future return to do some re-rides.

The Big One. I haven't been to Blackpool many times, and when I did it was mainly with an interest in the wooden coasters. I have a moderate fear of heights and didn't have any clear intention of riding the Big One. However, for one reason or another, I did go on it. All I can remember is that I enjoyed it and that there was nothing particularly wild about it.

When I went back for a second go, the ride was stopped and I watched it being evacuated. Whilst the ride itself was fun, I didn't fancy having to walk down the lift hill, so thought all in all it wasn't worth riding again. There are a handful of coasters I've only ridden once, but that's the only one I can think of that I enjoyed a fair bit.

The Voyage.

Before I really got into coasters, I rode it by accident, not knowing what I was riding. I ended up at Holiday World while we were just passing through the area with my family; my kids were too small to ride anything, and I said "Hey I'm gonna run over and ride this wooden coaster" while they waited. When I got off, I was like ... "Wow- that was the best wooden coaster I've ever ridden!" and my wife was like "Yeah, they have signs out front about how it won golden ticket awards for best wooden coaster." lol

I agree it can be difficult to sometimes re-ride coasters - for quite a few different reasons. I think the main one must be crowd levels at parks, particularly if you can only be there at weekends. I have one coaster in my top 10 that I have only ridden once, due to crowd levels which were heavy when I visited.

Silver Star @ Europa Park sits at number 6, tied with Oz'Iris @ Parc Asterix (which I have ridden a number of times).
I loved the drops, pacing, airtime and overall speed of Silver Star. Some do not like the 'mid-course' brakes, but in the back seat, whilst they slowed the train down - it was not enough to get a good whip over the flat to the drop immediately after.

Wodan @ Europa Park and Juvelen @ Djurs Sommerland are in my 11-20 'honourable mentions' having been ridden once each - Juvelen because I rode Piraten a few times and is in my top 10, Wodan because I went for as many coasters as possible @ Europa Park and it was busy.

Batman Gotham City Escape at Parque Warner. It was my first ride of the day, I loved it and it's in my top 5, but the queues were too long during the day I went to be able to ride it again.

Colossos at Heide Park.

The first time I went to the park was with CF. I can't remember the details now - maybe it was down for most of the day - but we only got one ride on it near the end of the day. When I revisited the park a few years ago, it was during its prolonged SBNO period.
