In the US, I'm pretty sure that if you settle out of court then it's all confidential. Nobody actually gets blamed.

I guess that there could still be legal action though?

If you settle out of court, you can't continue to press charges. This is closed case now and all financial information is confidential.

I meant legal action from the State or sheriff's department or something for operating and unsafe ride. Criminal rather than civil.
