Hi guys. Very often, this hobby involves travelling abroad. There are only so many parks in your home country or state, so if you want to expand your repertoire of ridden coasters and visited parks, an easy way to do that when you've mostly exhausted what's on offer at home is to travel to a different country or state and "sample the local cuisine" there so to speak. But what about if you couldn't travel abroad at all? What if you looked solely on home soil for new creds? It happens sometimes; I know it happened to most during COVID, for example, and there are plenty of other non pandemic-related reasons why one may not be able to or may not want to travel abroad to get new creds. With this in mind, I'd be interested to know; what's the highest number of new credits you've gained in a year without leaving your home country/state? What's the highest number you've added to your coaster count in a year without ever straying from home turf?
Personally, the highest number of new credits I've ever ridden in a year without leaving the UK is +15, a number I attained in 2018. That was a good year for home country cred-seeking; the combination of my first ever visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a "first time in 10 years" revisit to Drayton Manor where I rode Shockwave and Accelerator for the first time, two new previously unridden creds at Thorpe in the form of Saw and Flying Fish and the addition of Wicker Man to Alton Towers meant that it was a very fruitful year, and still my 3rd highest new cred total ever out of 17 total years of coaster riding even though I didn't leave Britain once (for reference, my only higher years were +17 in 2023 and +23 in 2024)!
2018 was the highest by some margin, and the only time I've ever reached double figures for new coasters ridden without leaving the UK in some capacity... my next highest total without leaving the country, strangely enough, actually appears to be +7 in 2020! There are years where I've ridden more new UK creds than this in the past, but they don't count because I also went abroad in the same year... when you take any year where I went abroad out of the equation, the totals start to get surprisingly low once you get beyond that initial zenith of 2018!
