What's new

What's the highest number of new credits you've ridden in a year without leaving your home country/state?

Hi guys. Very often, this hobby involves travelling abroad. There are only so many parks in your home country or state, so if you want to expand your repertoire of ridden coasters and visited parks, an easy way to do that when you've mostly exhausted what's on offer at home is to travel to a different country or state and "sample the local cuisine" there so to speak. But what about if you couldn't travel abroad at all? What if you looked solely on home soil for new creds? It happens sometimes; I know it happened to most during COVID, for example, and there are plenty of other non pandemic-related reasons why one may not be able to or may not want to travel abroad to get new creds. With this in mind, I'd be interested to know; what's the highest number of new credits you've gained in a year without leaving your home country/state? What's the highest number you've added to your coaster count in a year without ever straying from home turf?

Personally, the highest number of new credits I've ever ridden in a year without leaving the UK is +15, a number I attained in 2018. That was a good year for home country cred-seeking; the combination of my first ever visit to Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a "first time in 10 years" revisit to Drayton Manor where I rode Shockwave and Accelerator for the first time, two new previously unridden creds at Thorpe in the form of Saw and Flying Fish and the addition of Wicker Man to Alton Towers meant that it was a very fruitful year, and still my 3rd highest new cred total ever out of 17 total years of coaster riding even though I didn't leave Britain once (for reference, my only higher years were +17 in 2023 and +23 in 2024)!

2018 was the highest by some margin, and the only time I've ever reached double figures for new coasters ridden without leaving the UK in some capacity... my next highest total without leaving the country, strangely enough, actually appears to be +7 in 2020! There are years where I've ridden more new UK creds than this in the past, but they don't count because I also went abroad in the same year... when you take any year where I went abroad out of the equation, the totals start to get surprisingly low once you get beyond that initial zenith of 2018!

But I'd be interested to know; what's the highest number of new credits you've ridden in a year without leaving your home country/state?

For me, it can only have been 1999. I visited Alton Towers, Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Pleasureland Southport, Fantasy Island and Pleasure Island for the first time, so (after a tally-up on RCDB) that must have been about +20 credits.

As far as single states go, I did like +30 in New Jersey on the same trip.....but for the US overall, In 2005 I went from the 180's to 300 between May and August.

This year, I'll get at least +5 in my home start though

2021: I got 17 creds in the UK, and didn't leave the country.

With Covid restricting travel / the uncertainty around needing a negative test, etc, plus not having much free time, it meant having to get creative, doing parks which weren't high on my list (Wicksteed, the Skegness lot), plus also getting a few at Winter Wonderland.

Don't envision that ever being topped.

I checked my count history, and it turned out to be 2019.
In that year, I did a multi-day trip through South Germany (where I haven't counted before), that resulted in 38 creds over the course of the year.
Number 2 goes to 2024 with 30 creds, that was mostly caused by me hurrying up to get enough creds so Voltron can be my 700.
Number 3 is 2023 with 19, so quite a large gap here.

There aren't a lot of rollercoasters in the Netherlands and I don't visit them very often or all at once.
So I think the highest number of new credits I've done in one year, was in 2000, the first time I've visited Six Flags Holland.
And that number was just "6".

#29 (after Parc Asterix) to #148 (before visiting Emerald Park) I went without leaving the UK. There was a trip to Wales midway through though.
That is 119 new credits without ever leaving the UK.

I ... don't actually know. It's been such a long time since I've not travelled to another country for new creds, I'm having trouble remembering. Even in those wretched lockdown years I still managed to get away on a couple of multi-park road trips.
My best guess is 2009. I don't think I went abroad, Saw: The Ride opened that year and I think I had my first-time visits to Fantasy Island, Pleasure Island and Mingo that year too sooo... yeah, Imma say 2009. And it would be, well, however many creds that lot comes to. 10ish, maybe? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Besides that dreadful year when our Government decided to put us under house arrest, I've been lucky enough to visit an overseas park every year since 2008. I did quite well at mopping up creds in 2021 until the nonsense ended and I went to ride Zadra in October.

Pulling up the spreadsheet, I did a lot of domestic travelling with CF in the days when Lives were a lot more frequent - I think 33 in 2005 stands as the record. The best were Dragon's Fury and Nemesis Inferno, so don't get excited...
