USF Project 971 (Rumored Springfield Expansion)

Nemesis of oblivion

Strata Poster
Looking on the excellent Orlando United Forums I found this project for Universal Studios Orlando. So far it's been rumoured we are getting a Krusty Burger, Moe's Tavern and a Krusty themed Ferris Wheel. And of course expanding the Simpson merchandise which is a very wise move as they are Tv's faviourte family.

Discuss what you think. I'm very excited if this is true and they're going for a 2013 opening with Transformers

P.S Big Simpson fan :--D

American Dad is better. ;) (only joking)

Anyway, I would love to see this erea be expanded, it has a lot going for it, as everyone loves The Simpsons and would be a really good move for the park.

I hate the Simpsons, it went too far too long ago and I just got bored of the repeats. However I was also reading up on this yesterday via the same forum.

There won't be a ferris wheel but there will be a spin ride of some sort (more likely to be a Dumbo style ride) themed to the two aliens.

Lots of theming is being added around the area including a Duff beer garden (with a stall selling Duff beer), the inside of the international food market (or whatever it was called) which had several counters selling different types of fast food will be converted into several iconic fast food joints from the tv show including a Krusty Burger and Fat Lard Doughnuts. As previously mentioned a Moes will also be added. Dotted around will also be several vehicles from the show including the police car smashed into a fire hydrant which will be spraying water.

It all sounds like a good addition to me and will brighten up the area. The fact it's all going to be ready around the same time as Transformers next Summer is incredible and really shows how fast Universal is working to bring their resort up to scratch.

Ok, so over the years from 2012 to 2014 we're gonna have

Despicable me Minion Mayhem
A total refurb of the Mummy
The total refurb of spidey
Springfield expansion
Transformers
A new land of london/harry potter
A world class dark ride as advance as forbidden Journey
Terminator 2 upgrade

Disney world

An expansion of a kidey land
A bigger flying jumbo
A family coaster which looks fun but proberly not as advance
A big thunder mountain refurb

I know which park i'm going too

^Wow! I truly pity those who went in 2011...

To be honest, I'd rather they replaced the whole simpsons ride altogether, since as aforementioned, the queline is terribly managed and dull, the ride isn't even remotely thrilling and for its footprint, it's a waste of space frankly...

No i'm not, their has been a refurb and more to come from the Mummy.

Check the Orlando United Forum before acusing me of lieing. Thank you.

Yeah, it is happening. Sounds more or less an update similar to what Spidey got (i.e. installation of HD projections) . I don't think there's a timeframe but I'd bet on it being finished some point next year. I don't think anyone is expecting any downtime for it either.

Echo-ing. It's simple stuff with a lot of overhype, no big deal.

To be fair, it's kind of pointless doing a 'refurb' by adding HD Projectors to The Mummy, they need a proper refurb if they're even going to bother. I think they need to add more effects happening in them actual coaster section.

You do have to admit though, when your spelling and grammar are as bad as yours is you can't help a guy for questioning what you've posted.

The problem with that list is so much is wrong.

Btm was done about 2 years back, if that.

Universal are not getting a dark ride they are getting a coaster.

They are not getting a new large dumbo ride, they have just moved the old one and have not a new one.

Marc, they did get a bigger Dumbo. Now they have two next to each other, the old one which was relocated and a new one with more elephants, thus higher capacity ;]

Ah ok did not know it was bigger I just thought the new one was the same size as the old one.

The "not" before was meant to be "got".

Just looked and they are meant to be the same size but just two of them, they were going to get a larger one but said it would not look right. All videos and pictures I can see the rides look the same.

Also there are stronger stories about T2 and ET being closed rather than T2 getting an upgrade. The Simpson stuff I have zero interest in, don't like the show. As for the refurb of the Mummy seems to just be an overhaul not a re theme or anything like that. Honest apart from the Harry Potter stuff Universal are doing nothing.

Btw Spider Man only had the screens upgraded its not a total refurb.

I wouldn't care if T2 went, but if ET goes I'll cry. I understand with a movie park things need to be kept fresh, but part of my love of film stems from nostalgia, watching my favourites over and over again and I feel like if Universal tear out all of the old stuff then they're not appealing to an older audience, those who would go 'Oh, I remember that film, I'd love to go on the ride of that!'

So, I can see where they're coming from but I do think they need to be careful. Why don't they just do us all a favour and get rid of Twister.
