Twister - Gravity Group Coaster for Grona Lund

Looks absolutely stunning. I love the way the wooden coaster manufacturers are doing what has always worked in the past, but using modern technology to make them better and more comfortable. Steel is trying to make the future, wood is improving on the past. I know which one I think is winning ;)

That is one of the best quotes I've heard in a long time, it's so true, I'd never thought of that until you mentioned it, I like it!

I love the first drop on this. It looks really fun. I may actually have to go and visit this park some time. How easy is the park to get to?

If you can get to the Stockholm Central station (fly to an airport near by and then use bus/train), then you could either get a taxi, take the tram or, if you have the time, walk to the park. It isn't really that hard...

Gröna Lund posted a nice overview of the park from a nearby island on their FB page today.

Really tight...

Agreed. That type of footchopper will really enhance that ride along with make Twister a sexy little number.

Some more images were just posted on the Twister RCDB page:

The future entrance to Twister.

I really hope that the middle support is temporary, or else it will have a really good train chopper...

It's only just occurred to me that some of the sharp transitions are actually IN this coaster and not just the NL layout. The last picture above shows what I mean about the first drop, it's so sharp. But I suppose they can get away with sharper elements if it's using the new trains?

Haven't really been following this topic, but have been trawling through it after seeing some of the latest pictures. It looks so sexy, especially with all the other ride interactions. Can't wait to see a real POV. :--D

Does anyone have any idea when Twister might opening? RCDB still just says 2011. I was thinking a weekender later in the year just might be possible...

If they keep up the consistency that other north European parks have then it will be open on the season premier, which is the 7:th of may (so 6 weeks from now). You could also expect all the rides to be working from that date, not like Thorpe...

I have no idea why they open that late this year though, the usual opening dates are in the middle of April (same thing with Liseberg, it's also on the late side). Also Gröna Lund closed really early last year (the day after the Liseberg live, where as Liseberg closed a month later), I don't know if this a trend for parks in Sweden, but it really sucks...

In the last video update from Gröna Lund, there were a bit on the new version of the Blå Tåget (ghost train) which didn't really show anything and that Twister will get it's chain installed next week.

Thanks loefet, that's great news that it'll be up and running soon!

Not sure what might be happening with the Swedish parks though. If it was just Gröna Lund I might of suggested the extra closing was simply for Twister's construction, which must disrupt access to several other attractions. However, if you say Liseberg opened late too then I don't know. Hope they don't make it permanent for you guys.

I can agree with you that the Twister/Blå Tåget construction could have influenced the early closure date, but there weren't any issues with a lot of closed of space or anything. I know that Liseberg have said a few years ago that they opened later due to the risk of bad weather, but in the last few years it have actually been nicer in April than in May...

Still I would rather have they open with the park completely ready instead of half the rides/restaurants closed. HI THORPE!! :p

Well this looks pretty awesome. I'm planning on spending a weekend in Stockholm in June before Glastonbury so will hopefully get to ride this then :) it's been a LONG time since i rode a coaster in opening season. Stealth was the last one i think.

Seems like mos of the track on this end is done, and the chain is already in place.

Wow. The work on this Coaster so far looks amazing. Definitely can tell this is going to be one awesome woodie :) I'm hoping it's finished around the time they say it should be.
