Thorpe Park - Wed 1/04/08

My visit this time has only proved to me that I really don't enjoy Thorpe park anymore, even when the day was free, and with fast passes too.

I found myself just wondering around alot of the time, walking past Inferno, and just going, maybe later. And this was the general theme for most of the parks attractions. I think there were only 3 rides i can say that i actually enjoyed, Loggers Leap, the Rapids and Stealth. Not even Saw was anything like i was expecting and hoping it to be.

So, here are my general thoughts to the rides this day:

Inferno - Its just so bland now, none of the effects are really on, the general area is looking a bit un-tame, the staff running the ride had no enthusiasm whatsoever, and the ride itself is just a little bit "meh".

Rapids and Loggers - I always enjoy these, Loggers Leap moreso. The final drop is just always brilliant. And Rapids has a few extra water effects either new this year, or working this year. So :-) for these two.

Stealth - Does what its supposed to, Thrills you for a few seconds.. and if a single rider, your only really Queuing for the same amount of time, so it seems a fair deal to me.

Saw - What a dissapointment... From what I had read, and seen, i was expecting so much more, but its just not that good.... not as good as what alot of people are making it out to be anyways.

After being closed for the majority of the day, i managed to get on with just a 25minute wait. The outdoor section of the Q is just tall walls, which dont really add anything to the experience, and some props which look to have been just placed there... i found these really took away from the experience. Walking through the indoor part of the Q, you can see that Thorpe have tried to put so much effort in, but its still just steel walls, some pictures, toy guns and a mannequin tangled in wire. Which is 400% better than the other attempts, but its still something a bit pants. And i can't help feeling that even those shotguns will only operate for a year or so.

I was lucky to get on the front row of the first train, although i know i miss a bit of dialog.

The indoor section of the ride is the only part of the ride which surprised me. The placement of the spikes is brilliant, and the little drop is just great. The random man and the end who bleeds ????up?!?! at you is just that, a bit random. Up the lift, and over the top, not really noticing the saw blades, so no real head chopper.

The random pops of airtime are fun, as well as the final inversion and tight bend to the brakes... but all the rest is just not that fun.

I think this next line will sum up what i thought of it... I HAD time to Q for it again, but I just didn't want to.

Overall, i have lost all respect and fondness of Thorpe. The park is full of the wrong crowd. Even in the Q line of Saw you could smell cannabis... The atmosphere is non exsistant. And apart from one operator of Saw.. he was wearing a funky beanie... all the staff didnt really seemed bothered.

So my free day at Thorpe, with fast pass, and i still feel like i was fobbed of with a mediocre day.

I know exactly how you feel Dave (though I did like Saw) just in general with Thorpe.

When I went the other day we left at 3, even though the park was open til 6. I just couldn't be bothered to do any of the other rides as they are now, as you said, a bit 'meh'.

I have yet to do the newly improved Rumba Rapids but hope to in the near future.
