Thorpe Park Coaster Walk

Smithy

Strata Poster
Thought I'd written up a small report for this but apparently not (or it's too late and I'm losing it and have missed it), so have a bit of text and some pictures.

Actual day at Thorpe was ****, mainly because there's not a lot there we actually enjoy enough to bother with, so we only got there about half 1 (6pm close), rode Swarm, Colossus, Inferno and then just chilled around the park waiting for the walk. Colossus was stopped to retrieve someones glasses which was annoying, make them wait until the end of the day.

Anyway, was only the two of us waiting to climb Swarm and after waiting and watching the engineer take a train off via the transfer track and getting harnessed up we were giving the safety talk and then led to the bottom of the lift. It's bloody imposing!

Bit of a challenge to work the safety mechanism on the way up and it's impossible not to look down as you walk up. Sways a bit when up there too. Great views, would be good on a sunny day, our VIP host was really good, friendly and helpful. It is a bit steep at £50 each but you get to see a close up of the lift hill, great aerial views that stretch from Windsor all the way to Heathrow and central London, plus a great perspective of the park and also time inside the control room.

Some great photos there. I love the one with the Tetley man, such a great angle.

I recently did the Stealth backstage tour. I wanted to see the BEAST of an engine. Video soon when both CF and Thorpe agree on its direction...

That aside, it's fab to read you too had a great host. Were they really hospitable? Nothing seemed like too much trouble. Swarm would also be my coaster climb choice. The view looks amazing.

Haha again at the Tetley pic.

I'm loving the views! Get some great angles on the other coasters, especially Stealth!

What coasters do they offer it on? Just out of interest - it does seem like Swarm is probably the best bet.

They offer it on Swarm, Inferno and Colossus.

Some great pictures Smiffy, I've been wanting to do one for a while now but with Thorpe being so far I've never bothered, looks good though.

Aye Ian she was brilliant, went at our own pace, answered every question, and was extremely patient with gf's inability to operate the safety mechanism properly :D

Yeah they offer it on Swarm, Inferno and Colossus. Figured Swarm is the tallest and in the best location in terms of seeing not only London/Heathrow in the distance but over the park as well. We saw 2 people climbing Colossus and 2 climbing Inferno at the same time, apparently with Inferno you don't even need a harness on.

Just a shame the weather was a bit naff as most of my camera shots were obscured with raindrops so the above were mostly taken on gf's phone instead.

You made the same choice I probably would have!

I can imagine you'd get some really nice pictures if the weather was on your side. Although selfishly, I'd like them to run the coaster too, so you could get some action shots.

Smithy was it Chantelle by any chance that did your VIP Experience she's done 3 of mine and they've been fun.

^You've done three (or more?) of these things?!

They look OK and all (£50 is way too much though) but seriously?

They had a sale on for 50% off anything like this so many he did them then, but still even at £75 for 3 is abit steep.

Great report Smithy, the photos are brilliant!

I've been toying with the idea of doing one of the coaster walks for a while after doing the PMBO lift walk a few years ago, the price is off putting though.
