The Former six flags Kentucky Kingdom is has been set to reopen! :--D Your thoughts?

Ed Hart, President of Kentucky Kingdom, LLLP, along with his partners Ed Glasscock, Bruce Lunsford, and the Al J. Schneider Company, today announced the biggest expansion in Kentucky Kingdom’s 25-year history. The announcement was made just an hour after representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Metro Louisville, the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Kentucky State Fair Board, and The Bank of Kentucky signed the agreements required for the official reopening of Kentucky Kingdom.

Standing just inside the front entrance to the theme park, Mr. Hart remarked, “The highlights of the new Kentucky Kingdom will be the addition of the first new rollercoaster in 17 years and a large expansion of the Hurricane Bay water park. We are doubling the size of the water park, adding three new waterslide complexes, a 12-000-square-foot wave lagoon, and an adventure river, which is six times faster than the existing lazy river. All in all, we will have one of the largest water parks in the region.”

“We will also reopen such signature rides as the Thunder Run wooden coaster, the Mile High Falls giant spill ride, the 150-foot-tall Giant Wheel, the rapid river raft ride, and the Thrill Park Theatre, as well as all of the park’s remaining rides and attractions.”

Added Hart, “We’re not stopping there. In 2015, we will unveil a complete makeover of our suspended looping coaster, T2, and we are well on our way to converting the two intertwined wooden coasters known as Twisted Twins into a much superior ride, which will debut in 2016. We will continue to introduce new attractions each season. In fact, per our lease with the state, we have an obligation to invest as much as $2.5 million each year for as many as 70 years. That would equal an investment of more than $200 million, including our initial outlay of $43.5 million.”

Hart thanked the Governor, the Mayor, the Metro Council, Jim King, other state and local officials, and particularly Dr. Mark Lynn, Chairman of the Fair Board, for recognizing the importance of Kentucky Kingdom to the state and the local community.”

Mr. Lynn commented, “Ed Hart and his partners, all respected local businesspersons, are the right people at the right time to restore Kentucky Kingdom to its previous success. A full-scale renovation of the park’s more than 100 buildings and 40 rides is already underway.”

Answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the new Kentucky Kingdom are attached. As for answers to any questions that might not be covered on that list, Hart said, “We’d like to tell you about everything we’re going to do over the next ten months, so we encourage you to follow our progress at http://www.kentuckykingdom.com, where frequent updates will be posted.”

Good news.

Any news on the new coaster, or are they counting the T2 revamp as a new cred?

No news on the new coaster - which I believe is what is slated for 2014.

For 2015, T2 will receive a "renovation", which I would imagine is a new paint of coat.

For 2016 however, Twisted Twins will be receiving a rehab, which could very well be an RMC conversion.

Great for them, hope it all works out.

I do agree that Twisted Twins has RMC written all over it, while T2 may just get new padding on the trains or whatever.

I am still confused. Is the park reopening with all creds intact? Or is T2 and Twisted Twins not opening until 15 and 16?

I think those are future plans, unless they do a very lengthy rehab for T2 and Twisted Twins is going the RMC route (but I think GG may do this ride).

I imagine that the time needed to clean up the coasters and get them back up to spec alone would be a significant undertaking, especially the woodies so I wouldn't be surprised if Twisted Twins don't open until after their upgrade, my money being on an RMC something. T2 I expect will definitely be getting new trains and possibly some work on the track (like Gouderix) with a new theme.

This will be interesting. I'd love another park to possibly visit in the future, but based on the timetable, I wouldn't visit until at least 2016. A Twisted Twins (RMC?) rehab looks worth the wait.

Here is a more professional cut video, highlighting Rocky Mountain Construction's involvement with the retracking.

I might actually get my act together to get down to Louisville next year.

It doesn't look like rolling death so it has to be better than Hurler.
It's always been better than Hurler and wih RMC's topper track it should be better than ever. I'm also excited about one of the last statements in that video. The only old coasters that the park could possibly be re-investing in are Twisted Twins and I certainly won't mind waiting until 2015 or beyond to get to ride them.

I've always heard Thunder Run has been one of the smoother wooden coasters out there, especially with Six Flags dire maintenance program.

Twisted Twins has always been on my bucket list, even though it's been SBNO so long. The ride is like a child to Hart so you know it won't be tore down on his watch. I'm really looking forward to when it opens.

I loved Thunder Run. Its faarrr better than the Hurlers but due to design only has one train and with no transfer, 2 trains wont happen (same for Twins, but that ride sucks)

I've got a POV from back in 2005 on my youtube page

So the new coaster is going to cost just over a million dollars?

That's DEFINITELY not Hard Rock's B&M...

Its basically going to be a children's coasters. Stinker.
