I want a good car game for the PS4, but I don't know enough about the PS-scene to know what I want (and I don't have the time nor motivation to try them all).
I want a realistic-game rather than a simulator, realistic cars (no silly upgrading), ideally real-world tracks (lots of different tracks), split screen playing... I've spent a lot of time in the past playing (and re-buying) all the Bizarre Creations ones (MSR for the Dreamcast, PGR/PGR2 for the Xbox, PGR3/4/Blur for the Xbox360) so clearly something in that vein is what I want (but Blur was far too mario-kart rather than cars).
Does Driveclub fit that (I was waiting for the PSPlus version to try it but thats delayed) - bit put off by the online "club" nature of that (and seemingly The Crew?) as I don't play enough to get too involved in that?

Other than split screen racing, Driveclub does fit the bill. You are prompted to decorate the cars but you can run them with standard showroom liveries too. It's not sim handling but it's certainly nowhere near whacky/fantasy.
I've also set up a CF Racing club for when people get the game, as I know a few people who now a have PS4 on here

What you want is a Forza game, but they're sadly only on the Xbox and Horizons doesn't have split screen.
Grid Autosport also fits the bill, but Codemasters are a bunch of useless gits and didn't release it on next gen. It may become available on the Sony pay-as-you-play platform eventually.
Essentially though, the Sony platform is complete devoid of a decent racing game. NFS: Rivals is actually good fun, but silly, not real world tracks and no split screen.
Driveclub has no split screen and the reviews are generally bad (arcade racer with delusions of grandeur).
Then you have WatchDogs which is really good fun, but no split screen and it's not actually a racing game :lol:
Next Car Game is what you want, but it's PC only at the moment...

I'm well into Watchdogs now on the PS4 and I'm really enjoying it. It's a bit of a mixed bag, trying to be GTA only forcing you to be kinder. I love that the side missions are all essentially what you do in GTA when you're sandboxing. So you can pick moments to have fun upsetting and escaping cops, or hunting people down for as long as you like and it all counts towards game completion.
The main story is "okay". The main character is too clean cut and wimpy for the kind of behaviour he gets up to. Poor characters and writing, but it's still varied and interesting enough to want to play through.
So it's really GTA, only trying to make you tow a good-guy line, but with all the same violence and swearing. The driving is great fun, gun play works really well. It's actually really, really good as a next gen GTA. It' smissing a bit of character and humour from the Rockstar games, but gameplay wise it's great.
^ I've been late for work 2 days out of 2 this week because I got hooked onto Watch_Dogs haha!
It's great fun - I'm currently doing the missions though and need to switch off the option that I can be invaded, nothing more annoying than on my way to the next mission and a guy joins my game to try hack me, **** sake.

I love sandbox games and I love sandboxing - I hate the fact that I don't have enough time to play those games though and actually "achieve" something. I never progress. Watchdogs allows you the fun of the sandbox and you can complete the game.
I think that's it's very good. Minor_Furie complained that he thought it would look more impressive. I agree, it's still not "next gen", but it's much better than last gen still. It's that early stage look and feel you get on the generation gap.
It only cost me a traded in Vita memory card and £5 too, so it's even more of a bargain to get dozens of fun hours from a title.
We do need to set up a CF swap shop though for games. I'll have finished the campaign this week I think. Once done, I'll need to put it aside. Anyone want to swap it for a game they don't want if the trade in deals aren't too kind?

I finished the main story on Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor yesterday. It's really good.
It's basically just the Arkham games set in Mordor with a bit of Assassin's Creed thrown in, but it's executed extremely well. The voice acting is great, and the gameplay is fun throughout.
I can't remember the last time I had so much fun with a game.

Driveclub is ****. Sold all my old PS3 games, 20+ of them, used all my credit to buy it and I'm contemplating trading it tomorrow once I've finished it offline. Woeful Ai, shockingly simplistic gameplay and the online which is the only thing that would keep me remotely interested doesn't work.

^^^ The PC version of Watch_Dogs still has the coding left in for the E3 Graphics they were using. It can be hacked to force the game to use those settings, which make it all the more beautiful.
I got the ps4 version though, so it really doesnt bother me much as Im far too busy running around and hacking folks and seeing what their interesting factoid is. Conveniently, my game is chock full of Amature Porn Girls and Cthulu worshippers. Ive also found the token Homosexual.
Anywho, I was planning on getting Driveclub, but after hearing the reviews, Id rather not now. Debating upon Alien Isolation, or saving it for The Order 1886.

Bought Forza Horizon 2 today, I intend to review it properly on here but a few thoughts so far.
I LOVED the first one, best driving game I've ever played and probably one of the most immersive games I've played period. So far Horizon 2 feels bigger. There seems to be many more additions to the game, many more challenges and **** to complete, the map is bigger, from the far south east corner to the north west corner is 14 miles, I remember the first version being around 11 (but I won't object if someone put's me straight on that).
My one 'problem' though is it is basically exactly the same game with a couple of tweaks that Playground Games and the others felt they could have done better and that's fine but I worry that after a few days/weeks I'll get bored because I am just doing the same things as I did in the first one.
Obviously I don't yet know the storyline, I have only just got a basic feel for the game, these are just some first impressions.

Lead from the start, take a perfect line through a series of S bends to put yourself 4 seconds in the lead and then..? T-Boned by some jerk in a Morris Minor and last place is yours. So frustrating.

The thing is, it's a classic "release title". It's all about the graphics and showing off "neat features" rather than solid game play. Unfortunately, it's 12 months after release and now people expect games that are both pretty AND good to play. Driveclub was a perfect release title, it's not a good big release.

I disagree. I think that consoles can offer a great experience for racing games, particularly with the advantage of big screen, etc.

Slightly Mad did a superb job with Shift and Shift 2 - so I've got a lot of hope for the game

I played the demo last night. It was like the original, only bigger and more explosive. It also looked identical to the original
It's certainly the most flamboyant arcade game I've ever seen and it reminded me of when I used to go into arcades and be wowed by how over the top the were. Not my kind of game and the Wii U pad crippled me after playing it for ten minutes - but I can see why lovers of arcade games are going mad over it.
I know what you mean Furie but I had so many car games for the pc, 4 f1 games toca etc and so far not one console has given me the same feeling.
Don't get me wrong if you want a good arcade game then the consoles are great. I just don't understand why games from the 90's feel more real than games now. I suppose it's substance over experience.
