Supermoon

On Saturday, the moon will be approximately 221,567 miles away from Earth. On average, it's usually 238,000 miles away.

Therefore the full moon on Saturday night is going to look a lot bigger than usual.

I like space and **** (although shuttle launches are mega YAWN) so I'm quite looking forward to see a massive moon.

Anybody else looking looking forward to seeing the Supermoon and the subsequent photos by Hoyer and David Morton?

Whenever they say all this space stuff is happening like planets aligning or meteor showers I always look out for them but can never see them. It's always really cloudy or I can't see it so still have never seen anything like this lol.
I'll keep a lookout for this though.

You didn't get this in an email did you, Ian?

There's a regular spam email that goes round every now and again claiming that some sort of object in the sky will look massive. I can't remember if it's March time it goes round...

Saying that though, I have a feeling it claims something as ridiculous as Mars will be as big as the Moon. Also, my Google calendar is telling me there's a full moon this weekend, so you may be onto something!

I'll be watching a race until 2:30am on Saturday night/Sunday morning, so I doubt I'll be shooting the moon!

I like space and geeky science things. I'll set up my telescope so I can get a REALLY close view of it - that's IF it's actually happening and it's not a bunch of crap.

LOL JK I'll be in Northampton this weekend. Oh well. Guess I COULD still pack my telescope and observe after the traditional eating KFC and watching Harry Hill's TV Burp.

Still never seen a shooting star before. Ever. This makes me sad.

No, it's all real and ****: http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20110310/ ... ldisasters

I think the moon is still awake at 2:30am. If not, can't you get photos at half time?

Otherwise we'll have to look at David Morton's photos. That's not a problem, I like his photos, but it's Dave's posts about his technique and tarting up that bores me.

I named my Female Character on Megaten after this event. I also like this type of stuff as well (it also terrifies me...Oh well). Consider me interested. :3

Look harder, I see them all the time!

Have you ever seen a satellite? Or the space station?

I'll be watching that race Hoyer is watching.

"Supermoon".... LOL. Anyone who believes the crap that is coming out of the Daily Mail deserves to be euthanised.

According to some Astrologers then the supermoon was the only cause of the recent Earthquake in Japan...

Astrologers? You mean the people who believe in the zodiac and horoscopes? :P Yup. All dumb.

One of the girls at work is apparently planning to go into a field up a hill in the middle of nowhere and take photos of this through a telescope. If she gets anything decent, I'll try and link you to them :)

Hmm I should walk to Trent Park and try this...(plans to get a zoom lens tmrw)

There's a very clear sky over Hampshire tonight so I just went to check on the moon.

It looks really bright, but I can't see any difference in size.

Supermoon? More like Mediocremoon.

Got a good view from my window. I'd have thought it would have got slightly bigger tonight before getting as big as it should tomorrow. Like Ian said, it's really bright tonight but looks the same size to me.
