I'll probably get around to writing up trip reports in the future (around Easter), but until then, here's the public links to the albums on Facebook.

I love doing a late shift on a Monday after a CF-Live. Once 5pm rolls around, most people have pissed off so I can sit and smell my own farts and write a trip report without hassle. Hurrah!

So where to begin? Alton Towers of course!

I've noticed over the past few seasons that the first and last UK CF-Lives of a season are always the best. We're happy to see one-another at the start and even happier that we won't have to see one-another for a few months at the end :p

This one was no exception to the rule.

I'll get the small annoyances out of the way first. Firstly, the breakdowns. Blivion, Firteen and Err all suffered from breakdowns, albeit short ones. The arse was that they happened when we were about to ride. In Firteen's case, as I was sat on the break run.

The longest queue of the day was for Firteen - 70 mins. That was to be expected, however, I was amazed at how dead the rest of the park was. Second longest queue was 20 mins for Blivion (but due to the breakdown). Marvelous.

Cheerful and excitable are two words that describe the AT for me. I giggled my way through most of the day and I rode everything we did for a change!

The biggest highlight for me was everybody's anticipation for Firteen. We dutifully queued for 70mins in damp weather with smiles on our faces.

That gave me enough time to chat to n00b Novas - who wasn't a purple headed shaft as he physcially appeared to be. In fact, I appreciated his comments regarding CF in general. He doesn't mince his words so I was genuinely touched when he said that CF is the group with all the "fart and arse jokes", that we've been the "enthusiast punchbag" for many years but we're one of the most welcoming, less-clicky, laid back bunch of mates out there. Always a nice thing to hear from somebody who has experienced other groups. Cheers for that!

Balloons, high-fiving chavvy members of the public, catapults, furie bedtime stories, sweet throwing and general stupidness made those 70 mins pass in a stroke victims blink of an eye.

Of course, shaking John Wardley's hand was a fanboy moment for me. What a nice chap!

The quick five minute lunchtime excursion to the Weelife Centre with Marc, Gavin and Novas was my personal highlight.

Refusing the womans offer of the octopus photo much to her shock, Gavin trying to get through a door with no handles and that endless "ghost of the sea" recording. Yes, ghost of the ****ing sea. All great fun!

In normal fashion, we criss-crossed the park doing all the big rides and larking about where possible. Only towards the end of the day when my coat was socked through did I actually realise it was wet.

Few ride observations to end the AT day report....

Nemesis in the rain was running sweet as a sugar coated nut dipped in honey and fed to me by a polite Japanese girls with pigtails and short skirt. I rode it twice, once in second to last row and once at the front. Superb both times and remains my favourite coaster in the country.

Err was ok and uncomfortable in the rain. Nothing to report, I'm finding the coaster a bit meh nowadays.

Blivion was great as always. Mist working, full face on rush, high anticipation - that is a real psycocoaster, or whatever they call Firteen.

Runaway Mine Train seemed even more sluggish and dull than I remembered. Meh.

Skyride was great fun - seeing marc and Mark get spilt up to the chorus of "awwww's" in our (the one with Marc in) car. The skyride is always great for a bit of quick fire banter and plenty ensued...as did some artistic moments on the misty windows.

Rita felt good. I don't really any comment on the retheme. It's the same ride after all. Good fun.

I'd also like to put on record that the lamb kebabs are much better than the chicken tikka ones.

Thank yous go to Karen for the floor space, wine and croissants, furie for a well organised day and everybody else for the company and laughs.

DMP trip report to come after others bother to post.

LOL Ian your report really cheered me up, the door part and Ghost of the Sea. Novas went walking the right way whilst us 3 were trying to find the door handle, was so funny :)

We arrived at Alton on saturday to find it chilly, overcast, but dry. This was not to last long, and I'm glad that one of my MANY trips back to the car was for my jacket. However, I did forget to pick up the tripod stool that I'd purchased especially the night before, following Joey's excellent suggestion. Bugger!

Came out of the monorail station and were placing bets on how many people would get their cameras out immediately to snap the corkscrews. We were not disappointed. I'm really glad they're there. I think they look great and, although I was not a great fangirl of the ride unlike some, it is an important part of Alton's history, and serves as a fitting tribute.

Once in the park, wandered round to Forbidden Valley. After coming scarily close to falling in the pond at the bottom of the steps, we arrived to find... Nemmy closed! Grrr! I can't ride Err, so I baglady'd with Furie. Once everyone was off, it was back to the entrance to collect the rest of the group, then over to Th-onethree-teen.

We were well prepared for a massive queue, and had started to hear stories of three, four, or even five hour waits. We arrived to be told to expect to be there for at least two hours, and were even advised to go away and come back later. Being a tenacious bunch, we'd all come prepared with various different items to keep ourselves entertained in the queue. Furie had a book, astrojacks and a diablo (although, I suspect that he usually has all those things about his person anyway), there were tons of sweets/cakes flying around, and I brought a packet of balloons that, at very least, kept Stone Cold out of people's hair for a while. To our surprise, an hour later, we had arrived at the bag drop. This is where Th-thirteen-teen gets silly. Because people were queueing for the bag drop, there was no queue inside. In fact, there was no one inside. That meant that the train kept being half filled with single riders, as there was no one else there to go on! This needs to be sorted out. It also became apparent that the train was being delayed, as people were queuing to get off the platform because the window to collect your bags is too close to the exit.

Was seriously underwhelmed by the ride first time. Went front row which didn't help. The trims on the first drop are just stupid. Hopefully, as with Saw, once the ride is settled in a bit and they're sure they're over any teething problems these can be switched off/toned down? I hope so because in my mind they make the outside section pretty much pointless. I also can't see the point in having an intamin coaster with bunny hops and s-bends... right NEXT to, what? Oh yes, another intamin coaster with bunny hops and s-bends. Hmmmm. I was incredibly disappointed by the drop, however, on 2nd and 3rd ride I was encouraged to find out that we had first experienced some kind of safety mode drop. Rather than 'freefalling' we were lowered gently down on the larger drop. I think this spoilt a lot of people's first impression of the ride. However, we should've guessed by the fact that we were then treated to spending a few minutes waiting in the break run as it experienced 'technical dificulties'.

As we were leaving the station platform, a folically challenged man made his way against the flow of traffic onto the platform. After performing an incredibly obvious double take, and confirming my suspicions with Furie, I realised it was in fact JOHN WARDLEY! I'm glad this happened, because it made me excited enough to forget how disappointed I was with the ride! After much fangirling from most of CF, an interview with Leigh and Mark, and a lot of group photos, out furteen experience was over.

After a quick go on blivvy, we broke for lunch. Sue and I went back to Th1rt33n as she still hadn't got on it. As I say, my 2nd go was much more encouraging which regard to the 'freefall'. Anyway, the queue was still 45 mins at that point, so we missed meet up and a load of other stuff. We eventually caught up with everyone again at RMT.

From there we headed to Hex. This is one of the darkest moments of the day for me. I was forced to disown a family member. What is, imo, the greatest piece of ride music ever written was RUINED by a certain fictional nephew of mine *cough*Brad*cough being told to put his phone away. As a result, I HAVE NO NEPHEW!

Dunno what happened after that. I think everyone went on the polished turd that is the newly painted Rita while I faffed. Then we did 13:Thirteen (anyone remember them? I think I've got a 7" single of theirs knocking around somewhere) again, with the queue now being down to about 20 mins.

After that was my payoff for spending the day freezing my tits off and soaked to the bone - Nemmy in the rain! LESSTHANTHREE!!!!!!!11!!!!!!omg!!!oneeleven!!!bbq!!!!!!!! Thanks to the joys of the single rider 'queue', I had 5 goes. Could've got a few more in, but I probably would've been sick. Of all the ones I've been on, it's definately my favourite coaster in Europe, and my 2nd favourite overall.

MASSIVE thanks to Furie for turning a wet, miserable, logistical nightmare into a well organised, enjoyable day. Thanks to everyone who fed me cakes/sweets, and thanks to everyone who kept me entertained throughout the day. I think that covers everyone!

Drayton report later/tomorrow

Would like to Thank everyone for a great day in the pouring rain, lovely to see everyone, seems like forever since October.

Joey you were not the only one to like 13, my initial thoughts were boring but having road it again Sunday came to the conclusion it is a fun coaster, ridden at the back best and give quite a bit of airtime if the restraint left a little loose(breaths out a bit)LOL.

Was good to see John Wardley again, will email him to thank him for lending us some time, or get Leigh to anyway. He is a lovely bloke who seems to know us better than we think, (wait for vid). Never seen mark that lost for words. LOL Was chuffed he remebered Leigh from Saw.

Not as good as usual I'm afraid the camera seems not to like the wet.

We didn't get back home til 11.15 pm Sunday night as Tom tom decided to not let us out of Stafforshire. not funny and not clever. Reset in order...

Feel absolutely dead today, thank got for strong coffee on route last night.

so so so jealous that i couldn't go. Really wanted to go but work :( I want i want i want. but it seems what the yin wants and what the yin gets are two different things.
Hope i can get to adventure island and ride rage a couple more times because it gives me that...funny feeling ;) ...
great photos and sounds like a great time. Keep posting reports for me to read, and neil, loving the costume, i honestly thought you were going to go as a sugar plum fairy or something really out there with the hype but it was even better to go as a normal person from the 80's who rocks :D

Erm..... what is this place??

Have I been here before?

Sorry it's been so long since I've been on cf.

Couldn't go to Alton for various reasons so drayton was my first live of the year and as my shoulder has been pretty badly hurting lately I rode very little, I didn't even mind as much as I thought I would as I had plenty of company as bag lady. I really enjoyed seeing loads of people I know well, and a few not so well.
I've got to say the highlight of the day was seeing Ian's Mr T costume, there's a certain kind of double take you do when you realise that the guy who was best man at your wedding came to a family park blacked up!
Thanks to Vadge for organising the day.
Thanks to Ian for the Kinder eggs, and Neal for sharing the chocolate.

Things I learned at Drayton:
Some CFers are taking snack tips from Furie, Grapes in a tub <3

There is large bolts sticking out from the back of the seats on Excaliber, which hurt alot when you bash your knee on them (bruise has faded a bit and the swelling went down, I can also now bend it without crying which is nice)

The realisation that there is a new generation of CFers growing up which makes me feel very old.

That any female who goes to a live and doesn't ride is automatically branded as pregnant and dogged about this phantom baby all day unrelentingly.
I can categorically say I AM NOT PREGNANT!!! stop asking!

I have missed you all over the winter and I didnt really realisse how much till I saw everyone. :--D

I think everyone's covered the main details for Alton. I had a lovely day, despite the weather being abysmal and the failure of Alton's Sardine Express meaning I had to leave early. Some memorable moments of the day:

- The lonely Japanese enthusiast.
- Nic's scream of delight upon seeing John Wardley. It was pretty loud.
- Marc's umbrella being spited by Nemesis.
- Saying hi to people again.
- Not being killed by balloons.
- Actually getting on Thi-three-teen.

Other points to note:

- Oblivion was AMAZING as usual.
- Rita was much better than I remembered it being.
- I don't like Nemesis. Still.
- I look horrible in every single picture as usual.

Oh and I'm loving the costumes from Drayton, wish I could have been there to join in.

Thanks to furie for organising a fantastic day. Also thanks to everyone who gave me sweets/cakes. Thanks to Rach for saving me from evil rubber capsules of air. Finally thanks for everyone for making the day highly enjoyable, even if I didn't speak to you.

Looking forward to seeing everyone during the year, if not at Ghosterforce.

Tanya, I'm not pregnant either, but Slayed is - the plot thickens... :p

Posting links to your ****ing Facebook photos does not constitue as a trip report.

Here's an example on how to write one, using the Drayton Manor day as an example.

For the first time in a long time, I decided to get involved with the dressing up. I rarely bother with GhosterForce because of the likely hood of poor weather and wearing layers of clothes. So I decided to go as Mr T.

I really enjoyed dressing up, blacking myself up and making a mess in the Lodge. The reaction from others was great! A few peopel didn't recognise me, or actually said that I looked a lot different...yes, that's the idea of fancy dress!

Obtaining and distributing the group tickets was easier than expected, so thanks for your assistance with that.

After the LONG faff waiting for the Welsh to arrive, we did Troublesome Trucks.

It was rougher and blander than what I remembered two years ago. Then again, it's a kids coaster...it's not billed as the "ultimate coaster", so I got what I expected. I sat next to Big John and we pulled a silly pose for the photo, although I was more concerned about my mohican falling off.

What came next? I think it was Maelstrom follwed by G-Force - two rides that I sat out. In fact, I sat out of most rides due to a combination of hangover (unsurprisingly!) and costume. I was disgusted at the poor state that G-Force is now in. It's turned from a vibrant red into a salmon pink colour. Sounded rough as hell, too. If I'm honest, most of the park looks really tired nowadays, except for Thomas Land. It's as if they're only concered about that area of the park. Slayed and I posed for one photo at a request of some GPs.

I sat out of Shockwave, instead amazed everybody with my magic trick involving Freddy/Neal's microphone. Mr T does magic! Vadge called water ride and lunchtime. I spent 20 mins sitting in the car. I had to take my contact lenses out, my eyes were aching.

We met at Apocalypse after lunch and I dished out the Kinder Eggs...enough for at least two each! Much chocolate and toy building times happened. Some people were disappointed to have non-build toys but there's you go, such is life, touch my bum.

It was at this point that the costume started to annoy me, so I ripped off the mohican, beard and went to the "Super Loo" to wash off the brown facepaint, which left a lovely mess in the now not-so-Super Loo!

I sat out the Drunken Spinny Crap and T'aunting and opted for one go on Apocalypse. Bit disappointed that the floorless wasn't working. I also sat out Pandemonium and went for a panani instead...very tasty it was, if not a little pricey at £3.50. As I was eating, I missed out the Muffalo Coaster ride and played erection games with the water squirters.

Then we did Excali-bore. The ride is TERRIBLE condition. Heads and limbs were missing from the models, some of the animatronics and effects were not working and the speakers in the boat were too quiet and crackly. The sword in the water was propped up with a wooden stake and the dragon in the tunnel was fire and motionless! For a ride only a few years old and with the close season behind us, there is no excuse for such a terrible show. Again, it seems to be a case of Thomas Land has all the attention and the rest of the park suffers.

Pirate Adventure was next. Unremarkable ride and again, a few animatronics were motionless. Meh.

I think the Pile of Ship was up next. I sat out and instead try to squirt the CFers on the ride with the water quirter using the dirty lake water. Unfortunately it couldn't quite reach :(

Then we took the train to the farm/playground area. A highlight for me. Despite being roller coasters and some decent flats in the main park, the majority of us seemed happy to mess around on the playpark and enjoy the slide. We stayed there for about 30 mins.

I sat out of the last two rides - Black Revlolver and Maelstrom.

Vadge did her thank you speech with a boistrous burst of "VADGE! AH-AH!", we said our insincere goodbyes and went home.

Both days were equal in terms of enjoyment and fun. A great start to the season!

My final and biggest thanks goes to Vadge (ah-ha!) for the DuMP organisation and driving company. You're a top Vadge!

Cheers y'all!

I am still sooooooo knackered!
Pressie :)

DMP vid hopefully will be on tonight though no promises as it's going to take alot longer :)
Great start to the season x

Well, I'm no longer tired, and Ian has shamed me into posting more then.

Fortunately, I only have to do one day :)

So, Alton. I managed to ditch Madame_Furie and Maxi-Minor_furie which meant I arrived within five minutes of Ian calling to say "where are you?"

The reply would usually be a lie of "we've just left Stafford", meaning "we may leave in the next half an hour" :)

So, to the shock of everyone milling around the car park, I arrived with Minor_Furie, SSIL_Furie and Nicky before the first monorail left the station for the park.

Was great seeing everyone after a break away from it all. Monorail staff managed to squeeze us all into one train and we were off.

Coming around the top of Towers Street, the Corkscrews look fantastic. It does get you a bit excited I have to admit. The thousands of excited goons packed against the closed gates wasn't so enthusing though, neither was the rain which had started (and started dripping on my through a broken skylight in the monorail (I thought these had been recently refurbed? )

We rushed out and gathered at the end of the monorail station to look at the Corkscrews. Everyone was very careful to hide their goonistic natures and didn't take photos of the plaque and stuff (if people did it, they made sure nobody saw).

We joined the end of the mass of hordes of people chomping at the bit to get on Th13teen, happy in the knowledge we were going to be avoiding it.

There was a slight mumble as the gates went up, and the crowds surged through. We ambled towards the meet-up point, and watched the great unwashed (with this rain, that wouldn't last long) flying towards the new land and ride. It was brilliant to put them in order of geekery by the "shortcuts" they took. A few more intelligent people took a spin on Sonic first though, got that queue out of the way early.

We waited for some M&M faff (getting an umbrella and cap I think to ward off the heavenly downpour) and then we had news that everyone for the early meet was here, or had gooned off to 13. Skyride looked closed, so I asked a member of staff when it was due to be open. She said she was new and didn't know and was apologetic about it. Amazingly, she came back to me about five minutes later. She'd been and asked to find out and told me it was still testing and would open "around 10". Too late for us, but I appreciated the effort she'd made.

So off we headed (using the geek shortcut ;) ) to Forbidden Valley and some ERT on Nemesis.

Bit of shame it was broken then :( It was testing still, but the guy on the queue entrance was passing people down to air which had opened instead. It's not quite the same, but it was good that they had one of the rides operating. Vadge bag ladied with me and we stood and got wet and cold - then played around with a collection of water proofing to pass the time and stop the dirge.

One thing that was nice was a couple of staff members coming over to me and Vadge to find out if we were okay, and to make sure we knew Nemesis wasn't running. The reason it's nice is because it was very wet at that point. They were pleasant, and came out of their way to talk to us. They were on their way somewhere and it meant them getting wetter and being out longer. No staff rushing along to get into the warmth here - it's staff like this that makes Alton better (though they're not all like that - see soon).

air seemed to be having a few problems (I was shocked :p ), so it was quite a while before the group came back from it. We'd planned to try and grab another ride or too, but it was close to the second meet up time and Nemesis was still closed. So we headed back to the entrance. Not the most auspicious start to the day, with just one ride when we'd hoped to get a bit of a whore on Nemesis and maybe RMT in too.

Skyride still closed and no idea of time to open, so we had to walk/hobble back to the entrance. There was already a decent number of people milling around - not much waiting to be done other than for those heading back after gooning it up on 13.

Introductions were made and sweets shared out, lots of people chatting and getting back into the swing of things. It's great to see such a friendly kind of get together. We wandered off to 13, despite having warning messages proclaiming four hour queues. We knew the day was likely to have a massive queue for 13, so we had to go and take a look.

I brought up the read after going back for Vadges walking stick - she amazingly had forgotten all about it and was rushing off - amazing after the amount of moaning about the walk from FV :p

I rushed ahead with Minor_Furie here to get in a toilet break. I can't manage four hours on my ageing bladder. We all got to the entrance for 13 and the staff were trying to persuade everyone to leave and do something else "the ride queue is over two hours". I wouldn't say they were obnoxious, but they were certainly a little irate about us still joining the queue - though Stone Cold being loud at them probably didn't improve their temperament. So we queued outside the entrance and a couple of people minced out for a wee break (there could have been a little better bladder planning there AJ/Marc :p ). While we waited for the wee ones to return, we witnessed the birth of a couple of fresh bins - which we cheered about. I think by that point a few people in the queue with us were a little bemused.

Queue times were fun. Lots of being silly and mucking around - I could have killed Minor_Furie though when he catapulted a chocolate éclair and it rebounded and hit some random member of the GP  The rest of the GP seemed alternately amused/bemused by the bed time stories, balloon battles and Breakaways. SSIL_Furie getting scared by the balloon bursting was epic

It's odd, the two hours passed like it was just an hour - which is was! The line moved fantastically fast and we were on the ride in 70 minutes after joining the queue. So on opening day they had the full queue line capacity shifting through in just 70 minutes - amazing.

I've given the ride reviews elsewhere, but it was amusing getting off and having Stone Cold loudly dismissing the ride in front of John Wardley - along with others (though obviously not as loudly).

I thought it was great to watch him over seeing the opening of the ride. A few CFers had spotted him though, and asked him for an interview (I don't know who it was, but thank you).

As I stood by the photo booth chatting, there was a scream from Vadge which heralded the "call to Wardley". He'd agreed to do an interview for us, and people wanting to meet him flocked to the side of the disabled entrance. Mark was called to do the interview. Brilliant stuff, and it was really good of him to offer to do it - especially on opening day.

A very buzzing, excited bunch left Dark Forest then to head to X-Sector for Oblivion before lunch. Of course via a wee break and tunnel of wee. Lots of discussions abound about the new ride and area. Again, I think most people have discussed them elsewhere.

I bag ladied again, this time with Will and Karen (and her gaggle of hormones) and the heavens once more opened. Fortunately, we'd got a table under an awning to store the bags, but I still got dripped on.

Oblivion had a minor break down, but it was back in 20 minutes - I think this was the longest queue all day after 13?

Lunch was called and most people headed somewhere out of the rain, I chose Mutiny Bay Courtyard and picked up with the Family_Furie to deposit SSIL_Furie to get some spacker band action.

Meetup at Nemesis was pretty faff free and the ride was running... Well! Most people seemed to really enjoy it, I looked after the Haribo - NOM!

A mince to Duel next to try and dry out a bit and a chance for some to grab a coffee. We were still missing Vadge and Ploddish and Mattie were faffing a bit - so they missed the group photo (They were four, we'd have missed five if we'd waited as Karen et al were heading off in a rush). Sop sorry about that, it was the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few :p

Mine Train next and we caught up with Benin, general agreement to avoid the Rapids and it was off to Hex. I hung around the fountain waiting and had a quick chat with people, Ewen was there at this point. I do like the chance to just hang about and have a chat, and Alton Towers is a great place to do it, I just like the pleasant atmosphere, it's pretty chilled.

Rita was next on the agenda with a ten minute queue or so. A few had gone on Rita rather than Hex, but that was fine, I knew Tom (Rush) and Rach had other stuff to do, and Fraser was trying to fit lots in on his first visit. So a little bit of a split, but it was all good I think. Fraser and his sis grabbed another go on Rita (I think) while everyone else went for the ten minute queue for... 13!

For Alton, that's pretty much it then. Spinball maybe - but it was around 4:30 I think by now and that means Nemesis walk on. Some wee break faff and we headed off to Forbidden Valley to end the day whoring Nemesis. We amiably hung around the Nemesis exit while the group single ridered Nemmy or buggered off to get a ride on air. Before you know it, it's 5:30 and time to go home.

Everyone even at this time (frozen and wet to the core) was still in high spirits - amazing considering the time some people had been up to make this Live.

Brilliant day, with such a great bunch of people just hanging out, having fun. The split meet and decision not to rush to 13 I think worked - it gave us the chance to be friends, rather than goons and it set the whole day up. Sad I missed more of the queue times, but such is life :)

Many thanks to everyone for making it such an excellent day - these things don't work unless people are positive, agreeable and friendly - an organiser doesn't make the day go smoothly, the people there do that! So thanks everyone.

Also, massive thanks to Vadge for running what sounds like a superb day at Drayton too - pity I missed it :(

Hope that's okay for you Ian? :p

Here's an example on how to write one, using the Drayton Manor day as an example.
Sorry, but I don't write trip reports.

I am working on a positive review of 13 though, which will include some stuff about the day.

This is my first post on CF, just wanted to say thanks for a brilliant weekend and hi to everyone I met - thanks for making me feel so welcome and not just a random friend of Vadges.

As a newbie I'll leave the reviews to others, but thought I'd share a few things that I learnt over the course of the weekend:

- there are other people out there who like theme parks who aren't geeks... who'd have thought it!
- Drayton manor is a great park with some brilliant rides that double as torture devices
- how to get a bigger splash on Pirate Adventure - cheers (is it Big John?)
- never go on Hex with a phone or a Brad
- Freddie Mercury isn't dead - he just became a beatle
- try not to start an argument between Nemesis and Nemesis Inferno lovers, both are equaly fantastic
- the best ride in the world without a doubt is Haunted! Bat-on-a-stick!
- A Vadge on G-force is a happy Vadge
- CFers are all really lovely (thanks for the sweets!) :--D :--D
- finally, never go down a corkscrew children's slide backwards!

Very much looking foward to the next Live, now I'm off to work on my profile and figure out what usernames people actually use...

and after my first live has come the atmoic head **** of trying to match names to faces to facebook names to forum names. ARG!

Finally back. For some silly reason I ended up being at Alton Towers again on Monday....

Good to see everyone everyone again and had a fantastic weekend. Now to read over all the reports and millions of photos...

Sorry for breaking from the group at Drayton in the afternoon and missing all the goodbyes and stuff. I'm sure no one really missed me anyway. :p
