Small News From The Theme Park Industry

Apparently Blue Bayou / Dixie Landin in Baton Rouge has closed permanently after only one week of operating for the 2025 season.

Park was meh back in 2012 and I never felt the need to return. Guess nobody else did either. 🤷‍♂️

A company called Magic Tecture has introduced "coaster in a box" coasters they hope to sell to people for their gardens, announcement video below.

Click here to see their products

Having a look the basic model with a car will set you back $195,000 before shipping, the vehicles are self propelled and layouts are quite compact but you can get a custom unique layout if you want.

2-3 people required to build as it comes flat packed in shipping containers.

Here is a POV of one of their custom coasters.

So, who's going to get one? 😁

Movie Park Germany has begun experimenting with single rider queues for Studio Tour and Jimmy Neutron’s Atomic Flyer. This currently isn’t being advertised outside of a sign out front, and it’s unclear if the park plans to expand this system to other attractions.

Toutatis at Parc Asterix is currently closed. Translation of the announcement...

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF TOUTATIS

Dear visitors,

A disruption in the power grid caused a technical problem on the Toutatis attraction, which is currently temporarily closed.

Our technical teams and those of the manufacturer Intamin are carrying out the necessary operations to ensure its return to operation.

We are doing everything possible to ensure a recovery as quickly as possible and thank you for your understanding.

On paper doesn't sound like a major issue, but this type of announcement usually would indicate a prolonged closure

Police responded to Wiener Prater on Saturday night after a man sustained injuries in a knife attack. Paramedics treated the man on the scene for stab wounds to his leg before transporting him to a local hospital for further treatment. Witnesses were not able to give investigators relevant details about the incident, and the victim said he did not know the person who attacked him. Source (in German)

Elitch Gardens, a key asset in Denver's River Mile development, will continue operations under the new ownership of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. KSE plans to maintain and enhance the park as a major summer attraction, drawing over a million visitors annually. Source

Very little (if anything) mentioned about it from the park, but Black Mamba at Phantasialand has been closed since Monday 9th June and they were erecting scaffolding and had cherry pickers around parts of the ride yesterday.

Apparently there was weather related damage to the rockwork after recent storms/heavy rain and they have been removing parts of the rockwork in difficult to access places . Also some speculation on a German forum that parts of the rockwork was just layered on top of the previous rockwork when it was redone and the bond between the layers is failing.

Speaking of Phantasialand, the park was apparently hit by extreme weather this past weekend, which included flooding, trees falling on vehicles, and bizarre hail the size of pingpong balls:

It’s not clear how much damage’s been caused if any, but everything bar Black Mamba appears to be back in operation as of today.

Going for the first time next week. Hopefully it reopens as I'm most excited about that ride of the 3 major coasters at the park

I'm also going next week and hoping it is back up. Mostly selfishly because it will mean that it will help with the other queues a bit.

Obviously the ride area needs to be safe and it seems that parts of the rockwork are difficult to access but if I was the park I would be doing everything to get it back open in a safe condition as quickly as possible and worry about permanent repairs after peak season. It seems like it was closed for the best part of a week before they even started getting scaffolding up.

When I went to Europa Park several years ago the chain lift for Wodan snapped on the first day I was on park but they replaced it overnight (needed a crane) and they had it back open by midday on my second day on park.

Test Track at Epcot is closing on June 17th for a refurbishment. As there is new concept art, could this be yet another reimagining of the ride rather than some more routine maintenance?
Test Track will reopen on July 22nd. The ride’s makeover includes a new musical score, along with new scenes that “highlight technology making our cars smarter and our lives more fun,” Disney shared.
Riders will be able to see the world through the “eyes” of their vehicles by using advanced cameras and sensors — “Walt Disney Imagineers were able to represent this tech utilizing over 29,000 points of light,” park officials stated. Source
