I'm heading to San Antonio for the first time next week. I've been scouring queue-times and other sites to see if everything will be open when I'm there. I noticed that Wave Breaker went down this past week. I then saw on a few reddit posts and on parkfans that all 3 straddle coasters have gone down recently without explanation.

It doesn't seem like there are any other Intamin straddles closed internationally, and Hagrid's may be the only other Intamin with straddle seating in the US, but that's running fine. It seems like such an odd occurrence for one ride type to close chain-wide.

I'm wondering if anyone has any insight on this. I won't be too bummed to miss out on Wave Breaker compared to some other rides that I'm hoping to get on, but I'm interested to know what's up.

I've been wondering about this as well. I was at Sea World San Diego about 5 days ago, and Arctic Rescue was fully behind walls, implying it's not going to open anytime soon. And according to the website, DarKoaster is also closed. Hagrid does not seem to be affected, but Universal probably made a lot of modifications to it, And there is a rumor that Quantum Accelerator at SFNE is going to be delayed, although I can't confirm that.

UPDATE: The thread for QA here just stated they've removed all mentions of QA opening June 20 and changed it to "Opening Soon"

One rumor is it's somehow related to patent and/or trademark infringement issues, but that seems doubtful to me, as it wouldn't require already existing rides to close. Plus, some of these rides have been around for many years already, so why get into something like that now?

I just sent all this info to Screamscape... maybe with his reach (should he post it), someone will come forward with something.

Purely a guess: I would imagine something important (ex. something on the trains) was recalled and an immediate shutdown of all installs of that "Seaworld-style" train was issued. Hagrid/Zokkon use completely different trains, so it tracks that those remain unaffected.

I believe something similar happened years ago with RMC legacy trains, where (I could be misremembering specific details) the restraint cylinders were found faulty, and all of them shut down until a fix was implemented. At this point, it's just a waiting game until they reopen or one park puts out a "the ride's manufacturer" statement. The fact they actually walled-up Arctic Rescue is interesting though... maybe it will be a while.

This feels like the Occam's Razor explanation to me.

Makes sense, I don't think there's some crazy conspiracy... the only part that's strange to me is that no one seems to know for sure.

Usually at least someone in the coaster community has some insight, especially when it affects multiple rides simultaneously. The fact that no one seems to know anything is the odd part.

Am now hearing it may have something to do with the tire drive launch system. So models with LSM launches (like Hagrid's) are exempt.

I've heard so, but I cannot confirm. But if they are tire driven launches, I'd suspect so. Would love to know if anyone can confirm one way or another for sure.
