I had one free day left between now and going to Japan on Friday so I thought I'd fill it with getting creds at my nearest park, Wicksteed Park. Despite being the closest, geographically, to my parent's in Cambridge I'd just never visited so I asked my Dad, like a true 10 year old, to drive me to the park and get some creds, he agreed but wanted to get there for opening and leave ASAP because 'he doesn't like crowds'.
We arrived at 10:30.
To an impressive traffic jam which, as usual, pissed my dad off, great start. Thankfully there was a car boot for him to be occupied in (he's old, he enjoys them) and I headed off in search of creds.
I was happy to learn that the park offers a 'pay per ride' system, instead of a paid entrance, meaning I didn't feel guilty about running in, credding and leaving without getting my full money's worth.
I spotted a Pinfari on the horizon so headed over to that first, I got my tokens (I got 4 as the Ladybird Coaster was here too, 2 tickets each), and queued up.
Despite rcdb and coaster hyphen count calling it Roller Coaster, the only name I could find for it was...'Pinfari' so had a mini goon-gasm.
Anyway, I sat back for the extra goon point and instantly regretted it. It wasn't rough, it was actually smooth but seriously uncomfortable. Each corner it felt as if high g's were pulled on me and made me feel nauseous but it was weird how, as I said, smooth the thing itself was (in comparison to other Pinfaris at least)!
Next I rode the Ladybird Coaster just behind.
It was time for a selfie as I was back row.
Meh, it was a kiddie cred, simple +1.
I went in search of the final cred, walking around the park as I did so, it's actually really quite picturesque.
The park itself is split into two areas of amusement rides, the area with the Pinfari and kiddie cred and then a much larger, newer looking area.
In between the two areas is a huge green open space which, in the sun, was already hotting up as a hotspot for picnickers, it really is such a nice part of the park...although I can't help but feel they could squeeze in a few dozen big apples.
I arrived at the other part of the park and wandered through the little kids' rides.
I sound found what I was looking for, Clown Coaster.
I stupidly decided to sit front row, and just could feel the looks of disgust from parents as I rode with their kids, I almost felt ashamed to get the cred, but then realised I had got all three Wicksteed had to offer and instantly felt better.
I met back up with Dad and grabbed a coffee, he was commenting on how much nicer Wicksteed Park looks like compared to Thorpe Park and Alton Towers (he's a little basic) as there were fewer crowds. I just nodded to keep him quiet.
I then headed to the shop to buy a keyring and a pin badge and to pay for parking (it should have been £3 (under 2 hours) but I was charged £4), then on trying to leave the stupid woman at the till hadn't actually credited the parking ticket with the cash so we were stuck, Dad angrily pressed the help button and after a short yelling match they let us out. Dad commented 'why couldn't you collect stamps instead of **** creds'.
I liked Wicksteed for what it is, a fun day out for all the family. There's plenty of things for the kids to do and taking a picnic seems like a grand idea! I like a park that offers pay per ride (they do offer a wristband also) because you can just ride each ride once and leave.
I'm sure you really enjoyed this PTR, I enjoyed writing it because I knew I'd get 5 LoG points at the end of it. Thank you for reading.
