That castle with the hidden passage is fab. I've been to two castles over here with stuff like that. Sadly, as they're in the UK, they were broken down by that Cromwell bloke and and utterly ruined. So I'd love to see one that is actually still intact.

I reckon that if they stuck a Corkscrew coaster and some dodgems in the grounds though, they could turn it into a wreck in just a few years and pretend it was always a ruin?

Definitely somewhere I'd love to go now I've seen the area. Especially in the winter when it's "warm", but not too hot and full of scummy brits (present company excepted ).

^The whole secret stairway, tunnel thing isn't actually all that old. While it feels all "ancient, secret society", it was built like that deliberately in 1904-1910.

Sort of disappointing when you find that out later, as I just have, but still really cool.

^ no, of course not! There were some troubles with our flight from Madeira, so we missed our connection flight back home. So, since we got to stay in Lisbon for another day I thought it would be a fun thing to see Colombo and Estadio da Luz. Nevertheless, after initial disappointment I went to check some shops (the thing is **** huge!) and other stuff, so...
