Park To Have Best Wood and Steel Coaster?

Somewhat of an odd question (hopefully not already asked, if it is, sorry). Do you see a park get the best wood and steel coaster in both Mitch Hawker/Golden Ticket awards? I'm not saying it will happen, but what park do you see getting it? Even though I think it probably will not happen, I think Six Flags New England would have the best chance. If they get rid of Cyclone and built a great RMC woodie, they could get a best wood coaster. I don't really see Cedar Point going after a new wood coaster that would be a winner, and I don't see Six Flags Great Adventure getting a new steel coaster that could get first. Now, this doesn't have to be in the same year, just both coasters ranked first one year. These are not the only parks, many parks out there could have a chance at getting this. Which park has the best chance of this happening or do you not see it happening?

When you say "best" are you talking about the best steel & wood coaster from a personal point of view or a from a critical/awards (like Mitch Hawkers poll) point of view?

Well, Cedar Point would win a Golden Ticket if they cloned Wildcat from Lake Compounce, so there's that.

As for Mitch Hawker, that's a difficult call. SFGAdv could potentially build a winning steel coaster to compliment El Toro. Silver Dollar City could do the same with Outlaw Run, but I've no idea what it would be. On the flip side of things, I have no idea what kind of space and budget Holiday Park has, but a great woodie could go along with Expedition Geforce, especially now that RMC has come to Europe.

Obviously it's all speculation, and I honestly doubt any one park could hold both titles.

Great Adventure honestly has the best chance since apparently Voyage is now falling to the wayside so the closest coaster that competes with El Toro is Boulder Dash. El Toro is one of the few coasters that ranks well between both systems (GTA, Mitch), and Nitro still ranks very well in the GTAs. In fact I think Great Adventure came closest to having both Golden Tickets wrapped up with El Toro and Nitro ranking in the top five at the same time every year since I think 2008?

I wouldn't rule out Hersheypark. Skyrush barely missed the podium this year, and it is a park that has already established a dedication to good wooden coasters.

*cough* Wildcat
*cough* Mega-trimmed Comet

At least they ship Comet's trains to PTC when they're due for refurbishment. This year they look almost brand new besides a few leftover seatbelts from last year.

I've always thought of Mirabilandia as a possible contender for that kind of achievement. They already have 2 world class steel coasters (Katun and iSpeed) and a great woodie would really round up their coaster lineup.
Also, they have a lot of space and it seems that Parques Reunidos don't hesitate with their founds when it comes to Mirabilandia...

Alton towers.

They have the UK's best coaster so if they built a great woodie that would be great.

In the 2008 Mitch Hawker polls, Everland had the number one woodie, T-Express, and the number two steel, Eagle Fortress.

I think that's about as close as we're ever going to see.

Gavin, whatever happened to EF? It's been SBNO since 2009 and my assumption is that it's still stood there? COULD it reopen? Or is it just SBNO until they need the land and will tear it down then.

^ I honestly don't know. It was down in February 2009 when I was last at the park, with signs that it was temporarily closed for maintenance, but it never opened again.

It ran much faster than it was designed to, and was basically tearing itself apart for years. They looked into getting new Vekoma trains, like the ones on Vampire, but nothing came of it.

I haven't been since, so don't even know if it's still standing or not.

In a word, no. Not at the same time, at least.

Coastertools are a fickle lot, and today's treasured ride is often next year's also-ran in polls. Combine that with the typical spacing between major installations at parks, and I just can't see a single park topping both polls simultaneously, whether Mitch's or the Golden Tickets.

Topping both categories in different years, OTOH, I think might just be a matter of time.

A friend went a few weeks back and it's still sat there with the sign. (The English one says down for maintenance and the Korean one says closed for good apparently)

Doesn't look good.

Doesn't Outlaw Run count as both if it wins, because it's technically it's wood AND steel? I know it doesn't really, but it should.

I...what?

For the intents and purposes of a poll, OR is a wood coaster. So will Goliath be one. Just because a lot of people call the ride a hybrid doesn't mean you can count it in two polls.

Posted while reading your mind.

^^ There is still wood in Outlaw Run's track structure - it just simply has more steel than the traditional wooden coaster.

We had a discussion on the specifics of RMC's track design in another topic a bit back if anyone is able to find it.

I just posted it in the Goliath construction topic because Ben can't seem to get enough of the wood/steel/hybrid discussion.
