My Orlando trip report: Part 8

CF Legend
Right, so here goes!

Done all the packing on the Wednesday, picked Chloe up at 3pm, then headed straight for Lakeside for some shopping! Got to Lakeside in really good time, around 4.50pm, which is insane considering I picked her from the centre of Norwich!

Left Lakeside around 9.30pm, and before we knew we were at our hotel by Gatwick, the Menzies Chequers - bizzare name or what! The hotel was ok, £100 wasn't bad for the nights stay and 18 days parking. Especially when 14 days parking at the local Airparks is £80.

SUC57021_zpsc2b72c14.jpg

SUC57022_zps9386207c.jpg

God the room was hot though! Really bad nights sleep was had by both of us. Not good considering how long the following day was going to be! Oh, and £14.95 each for breakfast, piss right off!

It was my first time at Gatwick, it was ok. Long queue at the Virgin check in, but we wanted the extra leg room, which ment going to a different desk, with no queue. £20 each was well worth it in my opinion, and it also ment no queuing!

Had some lush eggs benedict at the Weatherspoons, then grabbed a Mcdonalds to take to the gate - good job I did....delay. (I've not flown that many times really (compared to some people), and I've been quite fortunate that I've never been delayed before).

It was only 15 mins to begin with, but then it changed to 2 hours! My plans for going to Old Town/Fun Spot tonight were well and truely cancelled...

On a plus side, we had to change plane. We were actually going to be on an old one, but we changed to one of the newly refurbished planes. It was pretty smart and the entertainment screen was amazing. It just had so much on it, and a 9 hour flight wasn't long enough for me to watch/listen/play everything I wanted to! Only downside was that it was touch screen and there was no remote, so my arms started to ache after playing on some games.

SUC57023_zpsd8cb2193.jpg

SUC57024_zps4a0df1d6.jpg

SUC57025_zps8269cac1.jpg

SUC57029_zps03d30c2a.jpg

The 9 hour flight went really quick, probably due to all the excitement! (and entertainment (and free drinks!))

Border control was a bit of pain, we waited around 40 mins, but luckily this ended up being the longest queue of the entire trip!

So we got our bags, eventually found the Virgin desk, got on our bus, and we were soon at the hotel.

SUC57030_zps771651af.jpg

SUC57031_zpsc9f51434.jpg

SUC57042_zps9c730e1a.jpg

They (randomly) give you a cookie each when you check in, they're lush! Probably the best cookies I've ever had. Needless to say most days we stop at reception to ask for more! And so was everyone else!

Woke up at 4am, feeling wide awake (9am UK), so we decided to check out the area a little bit. Opposite the hotel there was a little huddle of restaurants, including a Subway, Indian and the Village Inn. We walked a bit further up the road towards the conference centre, the humidity was horrible in a nice 'novelty' way. When you've never experienced it before, it can be a bit much. Luckily they dont care about being green in the States, and as a result of that, everywhere has aircon! Anyway, we found an Ihop, Dennys and Mcdonalds - breakfast it was then!

SUC57033_zps77500e33.jpg

They have like 15 different meals for their breakfast menu! Including chicken steaks!

SUC57035_zps7795bba3.jpg

Outside the McDonalds

SUC57037_zps50dda255.jpg

Our hotel - we loved it!

SUC57039_zps048cc9b2.jpg

SUC57040_zps37667c4a.jpg

SUC57041_zps47293194.jpg

We weren't in the tower, just in one of the smaller blocks. We weren't bothered about this because apparently the rooms in the tower aren't as nice (according to reviews)

Oh, and the 'Expedia travel expert' desk was insanely helpful, especially for first time visitors like ourselves!

So after faffing around in the hotel, we head to our first park of the trip, Seaworld. It was literally just behind the hotel, but annoyingly they had closed to gate to the back way out due to some road works along the pathway, but they did put on a shuttle bus for the convenience.

SUC57043_zps1bf305ad.jpg

SUC57044_zps47237ea6.jpg

After we got our quick queue wristbands (perks of the hotel), we headed for Manta.

SUC57045_zpsa5b99a93.jpg

I liked it. I loved the queue and the splash down effects, but the pretzel loop was disgusting, after that it was good fun though. Take out the pretzel loop and it is pretty much the same ride experience as Air.

SUC57046_zpsec1566c3.jpg

Not going to lie, I fell in love with Journey to Atlantis!

SUC57047_zps79958e9e.jpg

SUC57057_zpse5f37d27.jpg

Kraken was a bit.....eh. Weird really, I went on a very similar coaster earlier in the year, which I love (Superman), but Kraken was.... I dunno. It was uncomfortable, it felt like the wheels had no rubber on them, and it was just metal on metal grinding along the track.

We then went to see the Dolphin show, which was called Blue Horizons I think. I wasn't impressed tbh. Not much dolphin action, just lots of people swinging about and diving randomly.

SUC57049_zps9df8487f.jpg

SUC57053_zps9fefb193.jpg

SUC57055_zps04a4fe5d.jpg

Struggling to remember what we did really, so I'm just going by the photos....

SUC57058_zps0fc93142.jpg

SUC57059_zps5414e52c.jpg

I enjoyed the Sealion and Otter show, it was childish, goofy fun. Better than that Blue Horizons turd.

SUC57060_zps7e12d8f8.jpg

SUC57062_zpsc977a507.jpg

I liked this area of the park, it was really well themed and looked nice.

SUC57063_zps2d456776.jpg

Closed due to high winds, ugh! #FantasyIsland

SUC57064_zps9f304903.jpg

SUC57065_zps541b4ad4.jpg

The Empire of the Penguin thing thats being built caused a pain for getting around the park. Basically, if you're at Kraken and you want to go to the Sealion show, which is right next door, you to walk all the way back down to Manta, along a bit, then back up. I suppose its not too much of a pain, but then there was another section of the park like this where they had a pathway closed, for no apparent reason (between the entrance and Wild Artic/Bayside stadium.

Onto the 'One Ocean' shamu show then. Again, it was ok, but it was just music and whales jumping about randomly. Soaking people was quite funny, but I would have liked to have learnt a little about the whales.

SUC57069_zps4a968c76.jpg

SUC57070_zpsb803fc11.jpg

SUC57071_zpse342894e.jpg

SUC57072_zps48ca96c7.jpg

SUC57074_zps28f891d5.jpg

SUC57076_zps2107a49b.jpg

SUC57077_zpsd93a0e77.jpg

The show then spits you out into the kids area, it would be rude not to have a look around! ;)

SUC57078_zps813b9536.jpg

Oh look, there's a coaster! Might as well go on it whilst we're here.... :p

I forgot to mention, despite the shows being packed out, everything was actually walk on, and I proper walk on (we were riding some rides on our own and Kraken/Manta were both running with just one train)

And I guess that was it for Seaworld (for that day). Think it was around 1pm, we got the bus back to the hotel, and from there we caught a Lynx bus to Disney. We went to the Hollywood Studios via Downtown Disney.

SUC57083_zps89ac3146.jpg

SUC57082_zps367abc63.jpg

Looks like their balloon here has gone for good!

SUC57084_zps96232425.jpg

The entrance to the park hardly warrants a photo, its a bit poor by Disney's standards, so here's what you see when you enter.

SUC57085_zps621dfca0.jpg

After checking the info board, it seemed best to go get a Fastpass for Toy Story Mania, as that had a 40min line, whilst other major rides only had 5/10minute line. Even though it was around 2.30pm, the Fastpass return time was after 7pm! Even in a quiet park, its a very popular ride.

The Backlot Tour was near by, so we gave that a go with low expectations after the Paris version.

SUC57093_zps2261e9a8.jpg

SUC57086_zps7c5d5c53.jpg

SUC57087_zps18195303.jpg

Apart from this scene to help break up the queuing, it was pretty much the same as in Paris.

SUC57088_zps6bd6dfde.jpg

SUC57089_zps6a97b77f.jpg

SUC57090_zps8df4534f.jpg

SUC57091_zps25819cdd.jpg

SUC57092_zpsc84b97fa.jpg

So yeah, not overly impressed really.

SUC57094_zpsd54cfee6.jpg

Its worth a 40minute queue to be honest, but there's no point when everything else doesn't have a queue.

SUC57096_zps5596955b.jpg

I love this view.

SUC57100_zps2967defe.jpg

Same as really. This one does have the different way of operating, which I couldn't get my head around, but its all the same really.

Right next door was the Rock 'n' Rollercoaster, and this is why DHS is better than the WDS in Paris:

SUC57104_zpsf6bc6d47.jpg

This area is such a higher quality than its namesake in Paris.

SUC57106_zps6a5a1faa.jpg

SUC57107_zpsc4858eb6.jpg

I liked the 'kind of' story line too.

SUC57111_zps9b47208d.jpg

Again, this looked cool.

The actual ride area is just random road signs lighting up, so I think the Paris coaster went one better with all the lights.

SUC57105_zps79f1cb47.jpg

SUC57112_zpsf7fe9278.jpg

I honeslt had no idea it done this, and it confused me!

SUC57115_zps5bf1bd6c.jpg

SUC57116_zpsb7ba2f45.jpg

Toy Story Midway Mania, what a ride! Oh it was so fun!

I want to know how some people get scores of 550,000+, I was going hell for leather and only managed around 160,000!

SUC57117_zps84bb1f94.jpg

The Little Mermaid musical thing was ok I guess, not much else to say.

SUC57121_zpsf962507f.jpg

SUC57124_zpsb2271df6.jpg

I like this photo!

I cant really remember what else we went on, we were just milling about waiting for Fantasmic. Think we done the drawing, which I was disappointed in, they rush you like mad, so you end up with like half a drawning, and when they done Buzz, the 'Disney' guy's drawing didn't even look like Buzz....

SUC57127_zps9bcec532.jpg

SUC57128_zps12bc9892.jpg

It was really, really, REALLY good! It was amazing, I absolutely loved it! Its these types of attractions that make Disney SO good!

Couple of shots as we then left:

SUC57132_zpse3f1d811.jpg

SUC57135_zpsaa0ebc2e.jpg

We were obvs tired, so we just went back to the hotel for some sleepies and that was it for our first day (Friday 7th Sept).

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

Pfft, ToT in Florida is MILES
better than the Paris one, how dare you shrug it off as the same! :p

I prefer the storyline to RnR in Orlando, the 'random' signs are all famous Californian road names that take you down to the famous street where loads of rock bands like Aerosmith had their big break, whereas the Paris version is meant to represent being 'at' an Aerosmith gig.

Amazing how you got so much done in one day, but then I've only ever been avec family so I guess that'd slow me down a bit! Looking forwards to the next installment :)

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

I know the signs aren't actually random in that way, but as you travel along the track, road signs just light up, it's just a bit random, but I know they're there for the 'story'. I just think the light show and smoke machines make a better atmosphere for the actual 'ride' part.

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

Did you do the Movie ride in the studios, love that ride lol.

RnR in Orlando annoys me now as the theming used to be better and they seem to have removed a lot of it.

ToT though is so different from the other versions. Yes it drops at the end but I love the whole moving around and better story etc.

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

Apart from moving through that room, I really couldn't tell them apart, and the story was exactly the same? I suppose the 'lightening' effects at the bottom of the shaft were different, but most times you couldn't see them very well as the timing for the doors was off quite a bit, so when you were at the bottom the doors were open, letting in a lot of light, yet when you went up to the top, they closed...

Yes we done the Great Movie Ride, I thought it was 'ok'. Probably didn't help that our 'tour guide' wasn't the most enthusiastic and wasn't very good at acting at all. She was very bland and everything was spoken in one tone. Basically I dont think she wanted to be there, which is very unusal at Disney.

marc

CF Legend
Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

I mean with ToT the moving through the room rather than just a door that opens etc. just adds to it. Yes the stories the same but it just feels more complete and you actually feel like your there rather than just waiting to drop.

I think this is another depends what one you done 1st ride. I feel robbed with the one in Paris and California as its just a cheap half done knock off.

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

Interesting report. And OMG you went to McDonalds for breakfast INSTEAD of IHOP?! OMG, I hope you went there at some other point during your trip.

Agreed on Manta, Pretzel loops of WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. </3

My opinions on the Studios differ a LOT, so instead of just repeating myself time and time again, I'll just post that in my own report at some point.

Martyn B

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

^ In what way are they different? I liked the Studios!

And I like the ToT, its an amazing ride, and so is the one in Paris.

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

Maybe peep did not like it lol we will have to wait.

I used to dislike the park a lot but last time I liked it and could spend a day there.

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 1

The second day started with breakfast opposite the hotel, in the Village Inn, it was lovely! Proper little American diner serving up quite a good breakfast. I wouldn't exactly say it was a feast, and I wouldn't say it was a cheap as some people make out, but it was still very, very good!

Anyway, we used the free transport from the hotel to get to Disney, to spend the day in the Animal Kingdom.

I must say, I was quite impressed with the free transport. I had heard a few peopel say that the free shuttles aren't so good, but I really cant complain here. There were 3 busses going to Disney, at 7.30am, 9.00am and 11.20am, and four coming back, at 6pm, 8pm, 10pm and 11.35pm. Anyway, on with the pictures;

SUC57140_zps7755607e.jpg

SUC57144_zps2b004630.jpg

We decided to go here today being as it was a Saturday, as there aren't too many rides here (just incase it was busy), but luckily it was dead! There seemed to be a lot of people about on the pathways, but the queue's were non-exsitant all day, proper walk ons. Everest didn't once have a queue at all, t'was fab!

Anyway, as I didn't know how it would be queue wise, we went to Primeval Whirl first, in the kids Dino themed area.

SUC57145_zps39812fc7.jpg

SUC57146_zpsb160929f.jpg

In the queue, I heard a cast member saying that Dinosaur was here favourite ride, I was like 'oooh, whats that?', having never heard of it before!

SUC57148_zps60c923d1.jpg

Only one side was open for now! But as always, it was meh, goofy fun for kids I guess.

SUC57149_zps47cfe293.jpg

I was so looking forward to riding Everest, and didn't let up at all!

SUC57152_zps7e22bdfe.jpg

SUC57153_zpse502d226.jpg

SUC57154_zps9b1b0849.jpg

I loved it <3 Its such a brilliant experience and the attention to detail from when you enter the queue, to when you leave the shop, is just unreal.

SUC57157_zps60b0adf4.jpg

SUC57158_zps3f5796c5.jpg

SUC57159_zps12746531.jpg

SUC57161_zps729cee2e.jpg

Khali River Rapids were good, really well themed, but a little short. The big drop was decent surprise!

SUC57162_zps4e23b3dc.jpg

SUC57163_zpsc920829e.jpg

Bats!

SUC57164_zpsb4788390.jpg

The Nemo musical was starting soon, so we headed back to that part of the park.

SUC57165_zpsad01b42e.jpg

SUC57170_zps25fbb586.jpg

And grapped a sneaky second cred on Primeval Whirl!

SUC57176_zps43e9d616.jpg

SUC57166_zps6660b06e.jpg

SUC57169_zps96546afe.jpg

Again, it was so good! And like 45 minutes long, in an air conditioned theatre! Bliss!

SUC57172_zpse4da212b.jpg

As we were near by, I decided to go check out what this Dinosaur thing was all about... "Its fast, its a blast, in the past".... hmm, another bloody simulator no doubt....

SUC57173_zps4753ddb7.jpg

Not only did I not have a clue about it, I was also expecting it be crap as all the pre-ride stuff is very, very dated. Boy was I wrong! Disney, how rude of you! What on earth are you trying to do to all the innocent little children that will go on this! I proper **** myself! Love it though <3

SUC57174_zps521f6bbc.jpg

Dinosaur spits you out in to Dino Rama... which reminds me, I thought this place had a Bugs Life themed area...?

Time for a Safari!

SUC57181_zpsb536f00e.jpg

SUC57194_zpseeba2153.jpg

We then took the train over to that little area thing, cant remember what its called.

SUC57195_zps2f06c63a.jpg

Next up was "Its tough to be a Bug", lolz, Universal could learn a thing or two from this, it was brilliant, much better than anything they have.

SUC57197_zps177d4961.jpg

Again, it was actually a little on the frightening side, with loud noises, pitch black, large spiders that drop on you!

SUC57198_zps621c2474.jpg

SUC57199_zps8c01de96.jpg

We timed it well for the parade.

SUC57202_zps20cb56a3.jpg

Back to Dino!!

SUC57209_zps1ab200a1.jpg

SUC57203_zps019c3454.jpg

The we went to watch The Festival of the Lion King, again, really enjoyed this (not scary though ;) )

SUC57205_zps30792405.jpg

SUC57208_zpsb63885d6.jpg

Then we went back to whore Everest for a bit. I tell ya what though, its quite a stomach churning coaster, especially the backwards section, that part was a lot faster and more forceful than thought it would be. After 5 rides in a row, I was certainly feeling it...

SUC57211_zps402cf747.jpg

As you can see from that last pic, there were a few empty seats. Kudos to them though, keeping 3 trains on all day.

As the parked closed at 6pm, we decided to spend the evening at DownTown Disney - bad idea on a saturday, it was bloody rammed!

We really liked the Animal Kingdom, it had a good selection of rides, considering it doesn't have that many. It did lack that magical Disney feel that the other parks have, but then it always would given its theme.

So for us to get to DTD, we had to get a bus to the Port Orleans resort, then a boat to DTD.

SUC57215_zpsb8cb51fb.jpg

SUC57216_zps11862469.jpg

SUC57217_zps26d8fbc8.jpg

The river was full of Coca Cola!

SUC57221_zps8b64662a.jpg

We had planned to eat in the Rainforest Cafe, but there was a 45minute wait, so we opted for the Earl. Had a browse around the many Disney stores, then called it a night around 9.30pm.

It was around this night that it started to feel like we had been there for ages, yet it was only our second day, and so far so good with the weather!

Joining in a little late but on Toy Story Midway Mania there are special things that if you work together with a partner to give you large bonus targets. for example if you get rid or all the balloons on the board they drop a crap load of 500(0?) balloons from the sky

Here goes for day 3 – Sunday 9th September

SUC57225_zps10e54a5f.jpg

Weather was quite crap today, with constant, but not too heavy rain fall all morning and into the afternoon.

SUC57227_zpsd5e5ff0f.jpg

First port of call, Epcot!

SUC57228_zps15d5d328.jpg

First ride, Spaceship Earth, with no queue at all. This became a running theme for the day!

SUC57229_zps986d2c63.jpg

SUC57230_zps5e008036.jpg

Its quite good, I really enjoyed it. All the interactive stuff at the end was cool too.

SUC57231_zpsb6e34949.jpg

Next on the agenda was Soarin’.

SUC57233_zpsc532450e.jpg

Not going to lie.... it was ok. Lets just say I wouldn’t have been overly pleased if I had have queued for it....

We then done the other rides in The Land – Circle of Life and Living with the Land – which was a bizarre, yet good, boat ride.

We then headed over to The Seas with Nemo...

SUC57237_zps407334ef.jpg

SUC57234_zpsb361499c.jpg

I wasn’t overly impressed with the dark ride, which annoyed me as I was looking forward to it, being a big fan of the film. It just lacked imagination and it wasn’t very interesting. On the hand....

SUC57236_zps42e8cacd.jpg

Turtle Talk with Crush was amazingly good! I knew I was going to like this as Stitch Live at Paris is pretty fab, and Crush is a great character to use for this type of attraction. I genuinely found it proper hilarious, even though I was dreading getting picked on!

SUC57238_zpsc2e639cd.jpg

Universe of Energy was closed, so we opted for Mission Space. I had heard a lot about this with regards to being pretty sickening, so I wimped out and went for the Orange team. I’m glad I did as I really do not get along well with simulator rides. It was ok, but feels a bit dated.

With Test Track also closed, we headed into World Showcase.

SUC57239_zps606329fd.jpg

SUC57240_zpsaf0b364a.jpg

Wasn’t the biggest fan of the Maelstrom dark ride. It was very average and seemed more like something you would find at Drayton Manor. Same goes for the Mexican dark ride with Donald. To me, dark rides that just consist of TV screens are a little below what Disney can do.

SUC57241_zpsa12cf2af.jpg

SUC57242_zps2b449af5.jpg

SUC57243_zpsaceaf77d.jpg

SUC57244_zps417da639.jpg

We spent a good while mincing through World Showcase. Its so weird!haha

Maybe the lack of people = lack of atmosphere isn’t helping my opinion on the park?

SUC57245_zps2285a6b3.jpg

I enjoyed the Imagination dark ride with Figment, that was fun. Again, in a weird way. Didn’t bother with Captain EO, seen it in Paris and thought it was the biggest load of **** I’ve ever seen.

Think we then had some lunch, had another go on Spaceship Earth, then left for the Magic Kingdom.

SUC57246_zpscf5a4ed2.jpg

Epcot is such a strange park. Its really fun in one way, but then quite ‘meh’ in others, and considering the focus is on ‘tomorrow’, it feels very outdate and could do with some major investment (retheming Text Track is not what it needs). It also lacked any rides that you urge to ride again. As funny as Turtle Talk was, you cant keep doing it as its just the same jokes.

Um, YAY!!!

First up was Splash Mountain, a ride that I have very much been looking forward to riding, and it didn’t disappoint! And it only had a 20 minutes queue, yet it was a weekend?

And it was the for Big Thunder Mountain, only 10 mins here. Needless to say I was chuffed to bits!

Such a good ride, though I don’t like how its hidden behind the queue building and at the end of the burdenous dead end walkway, which is always FULL of people.

Splash hit a soft spot with me, such a good fun ride!

Haunted Mansion was closed, which didn’t bother me as we were purposely leaving things out for another day. So we head into Fantasyland for some Small World and Peter Pan.

Peter Pan’s Flight was a bit rubbish tbh, the music seemed very quiet and all you could hear was the screeching of the rubber wheels. The animatronics towards the end weren’t making any noise, and just seemed weird...

Cred! Was fun, nothing more to say...

Lolz, Space Mountain is hilarious!

It is a really good, insane coaster, but it doesn’t work overly well as a ‘space coaster’. Its more like the Black Hole in that its pretty much pitch black inside, expect for the ‘stars’ on the ceiling, but you couldn’t see them much due to all the insane amount of supports that the ride has. Getting out was a bit of a chore too. But all things considered, I absolutely loved it!

There was work taking place on the castle, so walking by had to be timed right for photos.

We then done Mickeys PhilharMagic, which was brilliant! A real highlight for me, even though its very similar to Animagique.

We then minced around the shops along Main Street, then plodded off to Downtown for some tea. It was great to do a kind of flying visit to such an awesome park, ride some awesome rides, and know that we left quite a few out for another day. I also found it so strange how quiet the park was. That final picture sums it up really

Only 3 days in, and we had been having such an AMAZING time!

Re: My Orlando trip report: Part 2

Epcot is a really strange park, I used to hate it and be bored. Last time I really enjoyed it, this will sound strange but we always start in Mexico but last time we started in Canada and this made it so much better.

Mission Space is fantastic it's a shame you did not do the other side, I've never done the other side that you done.

Agree about the rides in the lands, I hate the stacking on the Donald dark ride.
