I have nice memories of Black Hole, but it's purely nostalgic.

I remember it from when I only got to Alton once a year and the magic was there. I didn't know much about coasters so didn't know any better.

This is probably why a lot of people think highly of Black Hole, when in reality it was probably a bit vile. If it was there today we'd all hate it, I'm sure.

This. I've ridden very similar coasters way more recently (Jet Stars as opposed to Black Hole's Jet Star 2), and they're really not up to much at all. The same could be said of the New Beast at Alton: loved it at the time, especially the "danger" of no restraints, but it was nothing special.

Having said that, I much preferred Forbidden Valley when Nemesis first opened, when you had Nemesis, Thunder Looper and New Beast all right next to each other. Yeah, it's the whole nostalgia thing kicking in again, but it really was quite special walking from Gloomy Wood and into that area back in the mid 90s.

I have to say Corkscrew at FL here. That is purely a case of 'because it's gone' though.
