At the weekend, me, Nic, Serena, Jordan, Conor, Mike, Andy, Tom, Sue and Darren B went to Parque Warner Madrid (PWM) and Parque de Atracciones Madrid (PAM). In Madrid.

We did stereotypical Spanish activities.
madridthemeparks2.JPG

We met up with PA-Community at both theme parks.

Here's me and Alex from PAC.

It was a great weekend. It doesn't matter what language people speak, every enthusiast speaks goon. Although, thankfully, most of PAC spoke English as well so us ignorant/poorly educated Brits never felt lost! I'll start my report later this evening but I thought I'd best get this topic up before I head to work.

The ride of the weekend was Superman at PWM imo.

Already looks like everyone had a blast just from these few of photos.
And Holy Crap Ian! Can't believe how fit & trim you are. Well done bud. =D>

Now I've recovered from our fantastic weekend in Madrid I'll leave my trip report in here. I didn't take my camera so sadly there won't be 30-40 photos of what I had for breakfast. However, I will link in some RCDB photo's so those who are not familiar with the Madrid coasters will know what I'm on about.

The trip started for me at 17:00 on the Friday. I left work in Haverhill and drove the 147 miles to Ian's where Serena had arrived earlier. After an hour or two of watching POV's on Ian's 47 inch 3D TV we headed off to bed, ready to wake up at 03:00. We left Ian's at 04:00 and arrived at Gatwick's South terminal at 06:00 dropping off the car. Once in the terminal we met up with Vadge, did all the security crap and hunted down a McDonalds. This is where the first part of a weekend of poor efficiency started; We were served by James who had FOUR gold stars on his name badge. We were expecting efficiency on a German scale from James bud sadly he just wasn't on his game this particular day. I suppose with 4 stars on your name-badge you can afford to be cocky. After filling up on McDonalds we headed towards our gate, and off to Spain we headed.

Our flight arrived at 11:00 and after an hour waiting for a hire car we finally arrived at Parque Warner at 12:45.

Parque Warner

The park as a whole was pleasant. It was well themed, well laid out and reasonably quiet. The operations were horrific throughout, as they were the whole weekend so I'll say it now so save repeating myself throughout the TR. So, the coasters....

Superman
meu800008651galg001nsu.jpg

The best coaster on the trip by a country mile. A fantastic layout, 3 lovely pops of airtime, plenty of forces and DAT DIVE LOOP! 9/10

Batman
dt42g05ak002s0q0000003.jpg

A REALLY intense Batman clone. It was a solid ride but I wouldn't want to re-ride this too often. 7/10

Coaster Express
5ro003g5600000gn0c0lc8.jpg

It was VILE. After the Grand national its by far and away the worst coaster I've ever ridden. It just rattles, shudders and jumps around the track. On the first drop my testicles were literally bouncing up and down on the seat; It wasn't particularly painful bouncing of the meat and veg, but I was terrified that one big jump on the track would render me infertile. 1/10

Roadrunner Bip, Bip
5fr00ds52080005l6o6s00.jpg

A fab little family coaster. Smooth, well paced and good fun. 6/10

Tom and Jerry

Your bog standard Tivoli, complete with vibrating bottom. 4/10

We were spited by Stunt Fall so once the coasters were done we managed a few smaller attractions. The rapids were excellent; extremely wet and easily the best rapids I've been on. All the other attractions I lack an opinion of; Dark rides, flat rides, haunted houses etc. don't do it for me so instead of being negative I'll let the others give you an expert opinion. And of course we spent the day with PAC and I want to extend a massive thanks to them. They were extremely friendly and approachable throughout. We had a great time with them and I hope they're of the same opinion, but more about PAC in the second part of my trip report.

We left the park at 20:30 after rounding off the day whoring Superman. We got to our hotel, checked in and then went off in search of food. Ian, Serena and Sue were feeling their age and bloused out of supper so the 7 that were left ended up eating steak and drinking beer in TGI's. A pleasant finish to a brilliant day.

And finally, the bit that everyone (especially Gavin) has been waiting for - DAY 1 IN-JOKES!

-Sexy Carrot
-Scumbag
-Too Salty!
-FOUR star service
-Chain smoking
-Los Mongos
-Photo bombing spanish schoolgirls

And loads more I'm sure the others remember. See you in part DOS.

QFT!
This is my only issue with the parks in Madrid and they're so bad that I will likely never return to Parque Warner unless accompanied by a PR manager throughout (as was the case when I visited Parque de Atracciones). Like Flamingo Land, I'll never understand why they have queue gates inside the stations if they never use them.

^ Always annoyed me about Flamingo Land that.

I agree with Batman - it's almost too intense from start to finish you never actually get chance to enjoy what the hell is happening?

Shame Stunt Fall spited you, it's the only GIB I've done and it was an amazing experience even if it did come with the customary post-Vekoma headache (although Darren was sick last time I rode a Vekoma with him haha so probably a good job!)

Was the park busy? We went in the height of Summer and the queue to get into the park was horrendous however every ride was a walk-on after that!

Coaster Express felt like it had potholes in the track when I rode it so agree with you on that one!

The non-coaster rides there are really forgettable for me.

So jealous, I done a very similar trip in 2012, and I loved it. Parque Warner was amazing (especially Superman), and PDA was good fun.

I had always been told about the lack of english-speaking Spaniards in the Madrid area, so I went armed with my phrase book and I was pleasantly surprised with how I got on. Everyone spoke a little english, and I spoke a little spanish, and that was enough for everything to go to plan. (I found there to be less english speaking peeps in Paris, than Madrid.)

Cant wait to see more pics!

Saturday was an early start - 3:30am wake up call. This was followed by a 75min journey to Gatwick and 35min wait at McDonalds. It's almost as if the sever (John Four Stars) was preparing us about slow operations we had to look forward to!

Before we boarded the plane, I went to the loo leaving my phone on charge with Darren, Vadge and Serena. They left me some wonderful photos.

A few hours later we were in Spain. It didn't take long before we had our first experience of Spanish inefficiency. I waited an HOUR to get the hire car. I've been to busier airports and rented from all over and it's never taken longer than 15mins. Terrible! This made us late for the meet-up with PAC at PWM.

Sexy Carrot.
[tweet]https://twitter.com/PACommunity/status/452397050983096320[/tweet]

Eventually we arrived to a round of applause. The Fab Lady (the "mother figure" of the PAC group shouted something at me in Spanish. I smiled shook the hands of a few.

After getting our tickets (which meant going to three different windows), we were in the park and on our way to the first ride - Stunt Fall. It was closed. Boooo! Slightly disappointed as I've never done a GIB and I had been travelling for 10 hours, we wandered over to Superman.

Spanish Peel (El Peep) in the middle.
madridthemepark10.JPG

During the queue I spoke to Alex from PAC and was please to learn that they have a professional approach to running the site. T-shirts, badges, roles for certain people and so on. Slightly different than my "make it up as I go along" approach, but hey, it works.

After 10 or so mins, we were on Superman. I loved it! Really lovely g's around the helix, some nice jumps of airtime and OMG that dive loop <3 I'm quite surprised that the coaster isn't raved about as much as others. 9/10

Vadge loved it.
madridthemeparks19.JPG

Batman was next. I got excited when I saw the CoasterForce font.
madridthemeparks9.JPG

It was fab. I wasn't that bothered about the ride before i rode it because I Batmanned myself to death last year in the USA, but this one felt incredible. Not sure if it was due to my lack of sleep, low blood sugar level or what, the train flew around the track producing intense forces at the right times. Really good - a proper old school B&M Invert. 9/10

As we got off Batman, Batman and Batgirl were spotted so we minced over to get our photos taken.
madridthemeparks12.JPG

[tweet]https://twitter.com/PACommunity/status/452430212047712256[/tweet]
Darren and I were spited as they closed the queue for photos as we got to the front. Batman got into the Batmobile and reversed it into a shed. It sort of spoiled the illusion.

The Gotham City area façades were acceptable.
madridthemeparks11.JPG

We headed to the Wild West area, which looked a lot better than Gotham City imo. We faffed for a while and watched a show. CF/PAC members were selected to join in the on-stage entertainment.
[tweet]https://twitter.com/PACommunity/status/452445595777511425[/tweet]
madridthemeparks13.JPG

The show was ok and the cheesy music (Cotton Eyed Joey etc) appealed to us CFers and soon enough we were dancing deliriously without a care in the world.
[tweet]https://twitter.com/gavinj90/status/452457333856014336[/tweet]

Our lack of care soon became despair when we rode the woodie Coaster Express.

It was the first queue line where we both groups started to interact with each other properly. Laughing joking, talking about theme parks and general chit-chat.

The first train load came back looking a bit battered.
madridthemeparks14.JPG

To be truthful, I didn't find it that rough. Despite looking impressive, the ride experience was lacklusre and juddery. It did hurt my neck turning around to perv at Vadge and Serena's bouncing boobs. Boobs aside, it was probably the worst coaster of the entire weekend. 2/10
madridthemeparks15.JPG

We walked through the kids area and grabbed another cred, The Tom & Jerry Vibrating Bottom Coaster.
[tweet]https://twitter.com/PACommunity/status/452458671125966848[/tweet]
It was fun. It's not going to set the goon world on fire, but it's got plenty of vibrating bottomness and a large orange juice carton so it's not too bad. 5/10

One of the PAC members (I think his name is Stunt, he wore matching t-shirt and trainers <3) impresssed everybody with his teacup spinning prowess. He got a massive round of applause when we staggered off the ride.

Some of the group did the Rapidos. I sat out. Being a Brit abroad, I was wearing (sensible) shorts and t-shirt and evil storm clouds were forming, so I decided I didn't want to be wetter than I had to be. Everybody who rode it said it was one of the wettest and best rapids ever. It certainly looked choppy from where I was standing.
madridthemeparks16.JPG

Our next ride was "Bip Bip", the Road Runner coaster. Interesting sculptures in the queue line.
madridthemeparks17.JPG

I sat in front row so I was staring at Road Runners arse throughout but I still had a chance to enjoy the headchoppers on offer. An ok family coaster. 5/10

Then it rained. **** me, did it rain. This lead to what seemed like an hours faff whilst everybody took shelter. I walked around the tat shop, some people got drinks and food and Darren was bummed by Daffy Duck. I don't think I've ever been to a theme park with Darren when he hasn't been bummed by a character.
madridthemeparks18.JPG

Although the rain had left off slightly, I suggested we do a few of the dark rides. We did the Scooby Doo shooter. Typical sort of affair - use a laser gun to shoot targets and stuff moves. I think Tomatron got the highest score in our car.

The Mad House was next - Hotel Embrujado.
[tweet]https://twitter.com/ramondudley/status/452490602471759872[/tweet]

This was exceptionally well themed. The queue line was a dark, cobweb-filled spooky hotel lobby. The pre-show wasn't as good as Hex at Alton Towers (probably because I didn't understand it). Two talking heads were going on about something, then a man appeared in a mirror, he disappeared and a large bang and gust of wind blew out from the fireplace. It made me jump. Ok, then...

It made more sense in the next room - the mad house room. Riders sat on church pews facing a large dining table with a animatronic woman in a wedding dress slumped at one end. When the ride began, the lights flickered, lightning and thunder effects happened and the woman sat upright to reveal a zombie face. The mad house then did it's thing (which is turn the room upside down and make me feel mildly nauseous). It then occurred to me that the story is of a bride who was due to get married at the hotel (possibly to the man who appeared in the mirror) but either she died, the groom died or she was left at the alter. I questioned Pablo from PAC about it and he confirmed that I was on the right lines. It was one of my favourite mad houses - all that was missing was a tree with eyes.

We decided to end our day on Superman. On the way we noticed that Stunt Fall was running so we ran over only be told it was testing and wouldn't be open. *sigh* So, as planned, we fished on Superman. I managed two more rides - on front and back. Back row was brilliant! Despite the trim slowing the train down, it still flew over the airtime hill and raised me from my seat. The ride made my eyes water. Loved it!

As the sun set, we made our way to the exit to take the same photo.
madridthemeparks20.JPG

madridthemeparks21.JPG

We parted company and then went our separate ways knowing we had another day of fun ahead of us.

Parque Warner Madrid has some excellent rides - Batman, Superman and Hotel Embrujado. I'm gutted that I didn't get on Stunt Fall but it is an excuse to return again. I'm not too keen on the façade type buildings and it did feel cramped in places but I loved the way the park had unique areas that worked well. They way it's designed is that you can't see a different themed area from the one you are in. The areas are subtly linked through "dead zones" that operate a bit like a maze. It's good.

After Conor's passport faff, we went to get the car. After much car faff, we were on our way to the park. After much sat nav faff, we arrived at the park. After much ticket faff, we EVENTUALLY got in the park!

10152422_10152072812906025_19981158_n.jpg

The park feels like a really weird combination of Universal and Six Flags. Some parts of it work really well. Others, not so much.

First cred of the day was Superman

10173800_10152072813161025_350744346_n.jpg

Sue and I sat at the back next to a couple of the PAC guys and were quickly told that we had made the right choice as it was the best row. Whilst waiting we had a conversation about their trips to Stoke in which is quickly became apparent that when it comes to sense of humour, these guys are definitely on our wavelength.

I was looking forward to riding it as the only other floorless I've ever done is Scream at SFMM. Where that's famously plonked in a car park, Superman here is plonked in a field. There's some nice theming in the queue, but once you get to the station and out on the ride, it all disappears.

The ride itself was outstanding. So much airtime, and so much fun. Forces in all the right places with a steady flow throughout and of a decent enough length. As others have said, how this doesn't get more attention is completely beyond me. If I had a top 10, this would definitely be very near if not actually in it. I re-rode twice more at the end of the day - once again at the back, and then front row on the last train of the day. The forces aren't quite as good as at the back, but the view and the extra sensation created by the floorless trains make the front special in its own way.

Darren decided to reward Superman for having such a fab cred in the only way he knows how...

1533853_10152072812941025_418313034_n.jpg

Next up was Batman. This face on the wall at the entrance kinda sums up my feelings about it -

1544305_10152072813296025_43529401_n.jpg

It was brutal. Really forceful and relentless. Whilst I can totally see why some people would love it, it was a bit too much for me. Still, better than being limp and forceless I guess.

We then spotted Batman and Cat Woman. It's pretty common for us goons to spot characters and go running over, but one of the PAC guys really showed us how it's done. He appeared out of nowhere and SPRINTED over to get his photo taken! He definitely deserves an A* in Goon Studies <3 We just about scrape and A grade...

I'd heard nothing but bad things about the park's wooden cred, Coaster Express, so wasn't impressed to see we were going to have to queue for it. Jordan and Sue were on the train before us and had warned Serena and I to keep hold of our boobs. They weren't kidding! Whilst the ride was juddery and bumpy, the only pain I suffered was from laughing so hard at Ian staring at our tits and Darren complaining about his balls hitting the seat. Perhaps it was due to the on train entertainment, but I actually quite enjoyed it and definitely didn't hate it like many other people seem to.

The Tom & Jerry cred might be a standard Tivoli, but the seats aren't standard. There's a raised bump right in the middle of the seat that hurts if you sit down too quickly. However, that combined with the vibrating bottomness definitely had its advantages. Lets just say that I was making some odd noises all the way round, and was a bit unsteady on my feet by the time I got off. Rather than being a kids cred, I think it should actually be sponsored by Ann Summers.

Some of the group went on the rapids. It was apparently so good that many of them stayed on for a second go!

10014533_10152072814711025_1829171037_n.jpg

It made Serena rather moist

1506629_10152072814371025_293499501_n.jpg

Or perhaps it was sitting on Ian's lap that did it?

10152483_10152072815001025_1280449701_n.jpg

10153711_10152072815086025_760733999_n.jpg

The last cred we actually managed to get on was Bip Bip. It looks really impressive - it's HUGE for a family cred. Ian and I sat in the front and whilst groping Wile E Coyote's arse amused us, it was a bit forceless. I imagine it's probably better up the back, but then, it is a family cred.

I'm gutted that we got spited by the GIB. I've never done one before and was really looking forward to it. the fact that it was operating at various points throughout the day just added to the spite and just made the already open wound really, really salty.

I didn't really like the Scooby Doo dark shooty ride because I got a really crap score.

The Mad House was odd. They'd put loads of effort into the theming and stuff, and the animatronic in the spinny room was great... but I just wasn't really feeling it. Perhaps it was the language barrier, I don't know. There was narration in the spinny room which I didn't like, and whilst the music was good, it was too quiet. There was also a scratch in the paintwork which let daylight in meaning you could see the spinny drum which completely ruined the illusion. *sigh*

The shot tower was alright (we gave the bizarrely Lex Luthor themed Top Spin a miss)

10174987_10152072812976025_780788006_n.jpg

Overall I really liked the park. It's nicely themed and has a good selection of decent rides with an absolutely terrific one in Superman. I'd still like to go back and spend some time in Madrid itself, and when I do, I'd definitely return to PW.

Massive thanks to the PAC guys for acting as our guides for the day. There were some great laughs and banter throughout the day, and your "local" park knowledge made the day run a lot more smoothly.

Glad to see you all had a good trip, I enjoyed the updates from CF Twitter and PAC, good to see that another UK and Spanish community are getting along too, Club PBE and PortAventura&Friends have got a meetup planned in the summer, stuff like this should happen more often afterall we may not all speak the same language but all have the same interest. :)

Out of interest for those who have done both, Superman or Khan?

Looking forward to seeing the rest of the photos and reports.

Scott88 said:

I'm a big fan of Khan but Superman beats it hands down. The 3 pops of airtime, the lack of a MCBR and the forces given after the final corkscrew are the big factors that make Superman a better coaster.

^I have to go with Dragon Khan. B&M floorless coasters just aren't as intense as their sitters, but Superman la Atracción de Acero is my second favorite floorless coaster after Superman Krypton Coaster at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

Fab reports guys. Few points I'd like to make but I'll wait until I'm using a proper computer when I'm finally home tomorrow.

Looks like you had a great time. I've been keeping up with proceedings on twitter and Facebook. So jel.

I'd go for superman too - hadn't heard much about it when I rode about 4 or 5 years ago, but it just blew me away - Khan just didn't quite grab me as much!

Re: Madrid, PWM & PAM, 5-6 April 2014

Superman and Khan are both fantastic, intense rides and it's really hard to choose between them. I loved the airtime on Superman and the view of the mountains was delightful. I think Khan still has the edge for me though because of it's layout.

I flew home yesterday morning and went straight to work so was far to tired to crack into a report last night. Hopefully find time today as it was such a great weekend, it deserves a proper write-up.
