What's new

Lightwater Valley 2012

^I don't know if that was an actual rumour or just more of an assumption since Lightwater scavenged so many other rides from Loudoun

I'm pretty sure Twist and Shout was still being advertised as for sale even very recently?

Personally i'd have bought that before looking at the tractor ride, but thats just because I don't visit parks with anyone who the tractors would interest. I'm sure LWV are aware of their audience though. Maybe Pleasure Island should take out a loan and buy it instead of yet another flat ride!

^I'd say it's more down to money than audience. They likely got all of those other attractions for a similar price to just that one coaster.

They've managed to add a whole bunch of rides, hell a whole new area, in one season. Not many parks can boast that. I'd say it made more sense than getting "just" the one coaster, though personally I know which I would have preferred...

Some one posted ages ago that they would not get Twist & Shout due to the work it needs and the running costs. That type of coaster is now very expensive to run :(

Yeah I can understand it. Plus we need the smaller filler rides to reduce the queues for the coasters they do have/get. Still seems a same though. If the running costs are high it makes me wonder if anyone will buy it, Scorpion at Tampa might be my only chance to try one out.

The thing about loopers is that, these days, you can get one and cheaply solve a problem that would require a lot more quality from a non-looper. Something like Rage at Adventure Island is, quite frankly, the best decision a small park with little funds should be making. The bang-for-your-buck is high. Do I want them to get a eurofighter? Hell no, but something of that genre of small, cheap inverting crapness is what they should be doing to bring people in.

I'm actually surprised they didn't try and lease it for a couple of seasons, like they did with the Rapids and Whirlwind (and still do with Raptor Attack); would have kept the costs reasonable and given the park a fair idea as to what sort of maintenance the ride would need. That and the fact that it is effectively owned by Henk Benbom (not sure on the surname, but can't be arsed to check...) who is ultimately a fair showman, and to have the ride sitting dormant is surely doing no-one any favours.

Lightwater Valley never had any interest in Twist & Shout. As Gavin said, when word got out that they had bought a bunch of rides from Loudoun, people assumed they had gone after their star attraction which wasn't the case.

Same goes Barnstormer.

The rumours were just enthusiast speculation I'm afraid.

The question is, why didn't they go after the "star attraction"?

That single coaster would have done the park more good than everything else they have wasted money on in recent years.

Planning permission, and funds. That and the fact that whatever it is or isn't, Skeleton Cove is miles better an area than they have previously cobbled together. There are indeed rides they have wasted their money on. The ones bought from Loudoun aren't them.

I like Skeleton Cove, but like I keep saying, doing something like that is a waste of money if you're having trouble getting people through the gates in the first place.

I didn't realise that park had planning woes? You could put something in the field in the middle of the park and no one would see it from outside the park because it would be 5782747733785 thousand miles away from anything else. :p

...I tell you what they have done that's a good idea and being overlooked. Blocking off half the park. Making the park smaller makes it seem like they have more rides. It feels much more populated now. THAT was a good idea.

Associated running and maintenance costs.

Parts are harder to come by, and when you do they're usually at a premium.

On the subject of planning, the park submitted an application for a lawful development certificate last month. At the moment they can build anything up to 25m within the railway lines without the need for planning permission. I believe the LDC would see this cover the whole park.

That's a fair enough excuse on the subject of maintenance costs and parts.

As for the planning woes... 25m? Alton Towers and Chessington could only wish for that kind of height. That's plenty to work with.

Thats good about the LDC =D The area isn't that big where they have no restrictions sadly:
