What's new

It's here already

I agree that Boxing day is better than Christmas day. So much more relaxed than the day itself. And there's normally a good match to go to.

Yes, I think all Americans should celebrate a holiday commemorating people who helped save your lives then you slaughtered them all and took their land. Good on America.

Thats why i prefer canadian thanksgiving... much more civilized and much less about murdering lots of people.

I think Christmas music and stuff should start, at the earliest, the day after Thanksgiving.

Catalogs and such I don't care about because of previously mentioned things.

It's strange, though, it does seem to come earlier every year, but when you look back at it, Christmas really does come the same time every year.

Haha, our Thanksgiving is during the beginning of October, so the Christmas music and stuff is fine for now. I don't wanna listen to the music much right now though, in case I get sick of it before I'm actually in the Christmas mood.

Halloween ends, christmas stuff is straight out, happens every year, yet everyone seems surprised lol baffling.

This.

It's been happening for years. It's not getting "earlier" at all. It's been like this for as long as I can remember (try working in a supermarket from early November onwards and NOT loose the will to live).

The whole "Ooohhhh it get's earlier every year. It's all too commercial these days" conversations are tired, dull and cliched.

Thank the lord above someone has said it. Everyone bitches and moans about the same thing every single year.

And no, it hasn't got any earlier. I remember 10 years ago when I first started working in a shopping centre (christ, 10 years ago I was 16!!! ARGGGGH) and we were starting the Christmas sales push at the beginning of September. I even distinctly remember the Manager coming onto the sales floor for a Christmas sales briefing.

It is really nothing new. I don't particualrly like hearing about Christmas in September either but that comes from working in retail. It is the nature of the beast and it has been for years.

Personally I love christmas. It is the one time of year you can all get together and just be happy. Thats right, just be happy, and not have an excuse for it. All too often it seems that people these days need a reason or excuse to be happy. Well Christmas, for me anyway, is a perfect excuse to just have a good couple of days, have a few bevvies, relish the fact that you only have to put up with that berk of a cousin for a couple more hours and then you wont see him for another year.

Granted, having it shoveled down our throats every year isnt much fun but lets face it, a large number of us still have a good time once it finally gets here.

Im an example. I bitch and complain about having to sort plans or being dragged into see my family then to see Marcs (as a couple you have two families to contend with for a start!) I hate it all and don't want anything to do with it. Yet when it gets to it I have a great time all the same. It's the same regime every year. So to hell with it, i'm just going to sit back and enjoy the madness.

I have to start my christmas shopping early anyways because of a) my pay dates and b) Marcs birthday is in December and I dont like having to pay for everything all out of the same pay packet. So I start a few months earlier to spread the cost a bit.

Plus, in my current job, we run a "living Victorian Christmas" for all the local schools to come and enjoy which means it has to be planned out by the middle of November ready for the schools in the last week and first two weeks of December before they break up. (We are already fully booked too :) ) So for me, I am so used to getting into the Christmas spirit it has all become part of the fun.

Ooooo, heres a thought, the annual CF Christmas Games will be coming up soon too........

And here is a little something for those who have the I hate Christmas thing going on...

Christmas starts early, yet everyone still leaves shopping until the last weekend.. Why?

Marc... You buy NEXT year's Christmas shopping on Boxing day.

Hence, our Christmas shopping has been don for ten and a half months! :p

Meh, so ****. It's an excuse (even more than any other normal day) to get pissed and listen to ****, cheesy music.

Greggs are also selling those nice festive bake things, it's win win as far as I'm concerned.

Amen to that Sam!

I have also just seen the Coca-Cola advert. Christmas time is officially here lol!

Erm, no. I hate Xmas, and this year I'm not getting many presents, firstly as I don't want any, secondly as it's only going to be me, my mum and my sister, and thirdly, because this year I want to give more than I receive. (oh dear, I suspect I'll be seeing that quoted in the out of context thread...)

I genuinely mean that.

Question: What was the name of the animation which the 'kids' (I think they were ducks or something...)wish it was Christmas everyday, and it comes true, and in the end they hate it?

Sorry if a little off topic...ish, it's just we used to watch it all the time when I was little and it is amazing :)

It was played much earlier this year. I remember the Coca-Cola advert being played for the first time about the 15th of December last year.
