Insanity Workout

Has anyone ever tried Insanity? I've been hearing a lot about it and I'm wondering if it's worth giving it a try.

I'm big into working out. Running 60+ miles/week and lifting at least 3 days a week and I'm looking for a better workout. I've tried a modified version of P90X and various workouts I've created for myself, but I like to keep changing workouts every once in a while to try and avoid plateaus. I would willingly shell out the money if I knew it was worth it.

I've done P-90X, so I basically imagine P-90X multiplied by two. I've seen people do it, and holy **** is it hard

Trust me.. not many work outs beat what you are doing now lake. I wouldn't push your body too far until those 60+ mile weeks dont exist anymore

^ That's true. I do like to break up the monotony of running with other workouts, though. Keeps me sane.

But that's the same advice my coach gave me when I told him I had started lifting and doing other forms of exercise complemented with running.

Maybe I should listen. It would probably keep me from burning out at the end of every season...

I would stay well away from Insanity.

Its based on a type of HITT training (which is actually good for you) but reverses the principle.

With HITT training, you'd do 2 minutes of explosion, 3 minutes rest, 2 minutes explosion, 3 minutes rest. This routine pushes your body for short bursts followed by prolonged rests, which helps your lungs to expand and your heart to expand.

With Insanity, you do 15 minutes explosion, 1 minute rest. This is NOT good for your body. When you put your body under this sort of strain, your lungs and heart actually decreases in size so that your body is able to handle the sustained exertion. And what does a small lung and heart mean? Dead...

Why do you think most award winning runners die at the peak of their career? Well, its because of this...

I would stay away from Insanity and just take up HITT.

Well define 'explosion'.. because I've done repeat distance workouts with short rests to the same effect Erol.

I think by explosion he means pushups, jumps, lunges and things of that sort, just based on what I've seen of Insanity.

I decided against it though. I know it would end up doing much more harm than good, especially for a runner. I heard it kills your legs and I don't need anymore stress on my legs anyway.
