And it was definitely on porpoise!

There's even an embedded "warning" video (cynics read as "let's make as much money from Youtube as we can") so you can see the entire OM NO NOM episode.

I guess we need to put up a special warning to vadge about going near marine mammals with fingers smelling of fish...

Yet another accident since the park changed hands.

This will probably be another thing that goes away then and we won't be able to feed them.

There are very clear warning about feeding them and that girl has her hand far to much over the wall.

Having spoken to someone who has been to Seaworld, ive been told there are in fact signs telling visitors how to behave when feeding the dolphins. As far as im concerned this is just a result of stupid parents who 1. Aren't supervising their child properly in a potentially dangerous situation, and 2. Seem more concerned with filming a video than attending to their daughter's wounds.

Really hope the dolphin isn't put down for acting on its natural instinct.

Nah, it wasn't the girl's fault at all. You can see here how far over the dolphin came to grab at the tray of fish:

Her arm was actually lower than that on the wall. If she hadn't moved to try and doge the dolphin, then I think it would have happily just snatched the tray, but she was unlucky and moved into the "snatch zone".

It's a complete accident. You're dealing with animals, with sharp teeth and you're giving them food - I'm surprised this kind of thing hasn't happened before. We've been bullied and pecked at by a very scary swan at Warwick castle, and Maxi-Minor_Furie had his hand nibbled feeding oats to a horse at a farm. As a parent, you work out the dangers and decide if it's worth the risk. A local cat regularly scratches MMF too actually when he "comes to visit" (the cat, not MMF). He'll play (the cat) for a bit, then get bored and scratch. MMF doesn't care about getting scratched as he loves playing with the moggy.

Meh, **** happens.

She and her parents neglected the rules because they're human. And, even if she had been following the rules to perfection... You honestly think a dolphin isn't as, if not more, capable of making "mistakes" than a human?

**** happens. It's sad you can't touch animals practically anywhere anymore, but its because this kind if thing happens, and its no ones fault.

Yeah. I was expecting alot more...gore. I'm happy their wasn't and the girls ok but this wasn't worth anything. She did a silly mistake, parents will know better next time to watch over her more carefully, thats about it.

You are not meant to hold the tray though so she has not followed the rules.

Sorry, I don't know the rules

I guess this is why it's a rule then? :)

Did she die?
Seriously, why is this worth any news?

Slow Monday morning and I wanted to use an "on porpoise" joke :P

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

That's all I have to say. It's her **** fault for holding the tray in clear view of the Dolphins, enticing what is already an inquisitive animal to the prospect of some food.

Ps. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

This has happened once before in 2006, after which even more signs were posted warning of the danger & telling guests not to pick up the trays. For six years this has been enough to prevent any further incidents.
These parents should have been aware of the danger & kept a closer eye on their daughter, but instead choose to blame the park - demanding that something be done to prevent this from happening again. Unfortunately, that is exactly what has happened, as SeaWorld has now changed their policy for feeding the dolphins & banned children from being able to participate. It's a shame since it's children who enjoy this activity the most.

I hope the dolphin has been put down, along with all the others in the pool since it has been well documented that dolphins learn behaviour from each other. If it's happened once, mark my words these notoriously evil creatures will strike again.

My thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family at this difficult time.

Tbh I'm happy kids will no longer be running around getting in my way when I'm trying to feed the dolphins. Last time in every single picture we had taken had a kid getting in the way, he was holding his hand out and had run out if fish.
