French coasters, Czech alcohol and English stereotypes

CF Legend
So 3 and a half days, lots of coasters, lots of driving, lots of alcohol and fun. So where shall I begin? Oh yeah, the first day....

Thursday 15th April 2010

In the morning I finally packed my bag and headed to the local train station. I got the train into London and then underground to Hainault. This is where I was meant to meet peeps however Richard and Neal were running a tad late. They finally turned up and we drove round to the house of Brad where we picked him and Ryan up. Squishy times now happened in the car and it was decided that some form of rota must be decided upon for the trip.

Some time later and we were at Dover. We were quite early so we had Burger King times (what a rip off). We then went back to the car to get on the ferry. A coach load of French students was sat next to us and so they put up a piece of paper up to the window with 'Hello' written on it. We all laughed and then Neal opted to write something spiteful in French back. I can't remember what exactly he wrote so I'll let him fill in those details. However they all laughed a lot as well as us and then their teacher noticed who was not amused. Neal then wrote on the other side of the paper 'Rule Britannia' which led to lots more laughing. We wanted a quick get away on to the ferry but then Richard stalled adding to the hilarity of the situation.

Anyway we were finally on the ferry and had a lot of time to waste. We visited the shop, visited the arcade, sat and chatted, posed with DLRP posters and Brad and Neal had a 'Titanic moment'.

After what felt like a very long time we arrived in France. Our epic journey to our first hotel took a long time. Once we arrived Brad, Neal and Ryan got very excited about the ping pong table. Once we got inside the kind French man tried his hardest to explain that his computer had failed and he couldn't check us in and we had to go to another hotel. So after ages of translating and us trying to help fix his computer we left for the other hotel (part of the same chain).

About 20 mins later we had 'arrived' at our hotel according to the sat nav anyway. What was worrying was that we could only see fields and no hotel...

Concerned times happened. We continued down the road and there it was, our hotel for the night.

24344_10150155988905360_529160359_11886543_2855881_n.jpg

We got checked into this hotel without any major issues and went to our rooms. I went straight to sleep but Richard joined the others for drinking times until the early hours.

That ends the first day and I will write up the second day tomorrow night. The second day features Parc Asterix and epic times. Thanks for reading.

:D

Why does every "event" have to end with the word "times"?

Brad said:
Richard had a total stall count of ten, which is good for him.
Does he still make the car judder horrendously when he changes from 1st to 2nd gear?

Friday 16th April 2010

We got up and ready for hotel breakfast times around 8am. The breakfast is what you would expect from a cheap hotel in France, french stick, bread, cereals and stuff to spread on your bread. After filling up on foodage we packed the car with all our belongings and headed to the first park of the trip...Parc Asterix!

The journey to the park wasn't too bad and seemed quite short. At the entrance gates there were lots of people as the gates hadn't opened yet. This caused lots of waiting times...

24344_10150156505345360_529160359_11902777_7009611_n.jpg

The gates then opened at 10am and we got into the park without any fuss. We were shocked by the immense theming just in the entrance area.

First on our agenda was Tonnerre de Zeus, the big wooden rollercoaster at the back of the park. The queue wasn't too bad and with our random banter we were on it in no time.

Well we all sat at in the back row and it was absolutely amazing, the amount of air time was insane and the first drop is just incredible. We couldn't wait to ride again, so that's exactly what we did next.

It was still awesome and this time we were sat at the front. It's such a great coaster, just lots of fun with plenty of air time and tight turns.

We decided to wait until the end of the day for more rides on what we now called 'Ton of air', we could tell it was still needing to heat up and that would mean epic times later on, especially in the heat of the sun. The next ride we did was another coaster, this time Le Vol d'lcare. A small, heavily themed, family coaster. I thought it was good fun but a little tame and the brakes at the end were quite harsh, especially with the strange seating arrangement. Oh yeah, it was also pretty much walk-on..win :D

24344_10150156505545360_529160359_11902803_6533866_n.jpg

We then walked around the lovely lake towards Goudurix. It looks beautiful over the lake, especially with its really bright colour scheme (looks so much better than it used to). We were all intrigued by this coaster as we have heard so many complaints about roughness etc. Hmm.

Well after a fairly short queue (about 20-30 mins) we were on the ride. It was really awesome, there were about 3 times where there was a massive kink in the track but nothing too major and apart from that I found it very smooth and really exciting. I really enjoyed it.

After riding we pondered as to what to do next. We hung around these cool towers for a while...

24344_10150156505680360_529160359_11902818_7035463_n.jpg

Then we saw this exit which was made of win...

24344_10150156505690360_529160359_11902819_3826341_n.jpg

We wondered what it was an exit for and investigated. Turned out to be a horror-themed dark ride which was ok but too many sections where nothing seemed to happen. Although fog horn bat was hilarious and made it worth riding.

We then spent ages faffing around the area deciding what to do next.

24344_10150156505705360_529160359_11902822_6571255_n.jpg

It was decided that food times should occur but we got distracted by shops which had lots of fun things and hats!

It was already getting close to Dolphin show time so we made our way over to the Dolphin arena and opted for food after the show.

On our way to the arena we spotted a mushroom within the theming of a building. Neal showed his rage...

24344_10150156507765360_529160359_11902890_1496763_n.jpg

Anyways we watched the show which was amazing and we all commented that it was strange to see a Dolphin show outside of America and with the weather being all sunny and hot we forgot we were in France, that is until the show started :p

We then had food times at a Roman-themed burger fast food restaurant. The food was quite nice, you could tell the burger was meat and not processed turd.

Upon exiting the place of food we noticed the show in the big arena was going to be starting soon so we opted for more show times. It was actually quite a good show, would have been better if I could understand more French but that's a fail on my part. There were some amusing moments and some of the stunts were cool.

24344_10150156508055360_529160359_11902923_915342_n.jpg

Brad and I were sitting at the back of the arena whereas the others were sitting near the exit. When the show ended they ran out and we were caught up in the horrible stampede of peeps exiting. By the time we exited we couldn't see the others. We opted to wait a little thinking they may have gone to the loo or something. A quick call to Neal revealed that they would meet us in 5 mins outside the entrance, we assumed the entrance of the arena. 5 mins came and passed and still no sign. I then opted for loo times and we still couldn't see them by the time I got back. We then rode the kiddy coaster behind the arena. We got 6 laps on the coaster which was actually quite fun despite it being for the very little kids.

We then went back to the entrance of the arena thinking that's where they were going to meet us. However they were still not there. Another quick call reveals that they meant the entrance of La Trace du Hourra and not the arena. Oh fail times.

They had already ridden it so we went through the very minimal queue and on to the bob-sled coaster. It was interesting but there were so many long straight patches, however the turns were great fun. I think this coaster was too hyped for me to enjoy it though and it was no where near as good as I was expecting. Shame.

So Brad and I finally met back up with the others who now had ice creams.

24344_10150156508095360_529160359_11902926_4242333_n.jpg

We then walked on to an area near the back of the park. It was a really nice area with some random theming. The ride we went on was a water dingy ride (not sure what you call them) and it had a massive nose over the entrance which was amusing and random.

24344_10150156508110360_529160359_11902927_2631073_n.jpg

The ride was a good laugh and we got an ok spin, but no where near as good as the dingy behind us which was going super fast. Felt ill just watching it lol.

24344_10150156508130360_529160359_11902930_6553377_n.jpg

We didn't get wet at all on the ride but like I said above the photos, it was good fun. Next on the agenda was the log flume which I opted out of. I am glad I opted out as the other four came off soaked through.

24344_10150156509025360_529160359_11902949_5446072_n.jpg

It did look like a good log flume though and they all tell me it counts as a credit as the first drop has a hill after it which actually sounds quite epic.

Next was another water ride, Romus et Rapidus. It was (if you can't tell) a rapids ride. It wasn't particularly wet but it was great fun and there was some really good rapid parts. It also had random elephant statues which is always a good thing...

24344_10150156509090360_529160359_11902957_5876807_n.jpg

After the rapids it was time for more Ton of air times.

24344_10150156509095360_529160359_11902958_3318476_n.jpg

"More Zeus times anyone?"

The queue wasn't any bigger than it was earlier in the day but we could tell that it was running so much faster than in the morning. We started to get really excited about riding it again.

24344_10150156509140360_529160359_11902963_920884_n.jpg

We rode it twice, once near the front and once at the back. Wow is the only way I can describe how good it was. The front was epic just flying over the hills and getting amazing amounts of air time and at the back, well that first drop was insane, I was coming out of my seat! Just an incredible coaster and definitely one I want to ride again.

24344_10150157104830360_529160359_11921334_4298337_n.jpg

We then spent about 30 mins shopping. Richard and I got some shot glasses, Brad got a cool goblet and Neal, well, he purchased lots...

24344_10150156509175360_529160359_11902968_5256085_n.jpg

Well after a fantastic trip to such an epic theme park we began our journey to the next hotel. I will be writing up the evening's events tomorrow night. :D Thanks for reading!

Well, you've read about our journey to France and our day at Asterix, here is what happened in the evening....

Friday evening, 16th April 2010

So we were back in the car and on our way to our second (technically third) hotel. We decided that as it was Neal's birthday he could choose where we ate in the evening and we would purchase some alcohols for the evening. We drove past one of Neal's favourite American steak house themed chain restaurant so we decided to go there after checking in to our hotel.

Our hotel was yet another rubbish F1 hotel...

24344_10150156535840360_529160359_11903870_3784424_n.jpg

I spotted a magazine which had a pic of a meerkat on the front, this hotel was already better than the other two :p

24344_10150156535830360_529160359_11903868_3399522_n.jpg

After faffing around with dropping our stuff off at the hotel we went to a local shop, got some alcohol (apart from me, didn't see anything I like drinking) and then went to the restaurant that Neal praised so much.

24344_10150156535850360_529160359_11903872_1289860_n.jpg

It was a nice place and it felt very American (which is definitely the intention). We got sat down at a table straight away and we looked at the menu. While we were deciding the waitress placed some random bowls of salad on the table, Neal warned they charged for these so we left them be.

24344_10150156535860360_529160359_11903874_2606624_n.jpg

24344_10150156535880360_529160359_11903876_142785_n.jpg

After a little wait for the food, it arrived and it looked awesome.

24344_10150156536245360_529160359_11903925_3836609_n.jpg

The food was really nice, having hash browns instead of burger buns was interesting and messy. However I found some of the meat in my burger was a bit too raw, shame as it was mainly very tasty.

Anyway as it was Neal's birthday we mentioned it to the waitress and we got free cake! Neal was very happy and the cake actually tasted really nice.

24344_10150156547945360_529160359_11904106_4009450_n.jpg

24344_10150156547955360_529160359_11904107_1785982_n.jpg

We paid up and left with happy faces. We drove back to the hotel (literally down the road) and was confronted with lots of drunk peeps at the entrance, we assumed they were French and walked straight into the hotel. They laughed a fair bit too as we were carrying lots of balloons and hats that we got from the restaurant.

We then began to get ready for drinking times in one of the rooms when we heard voices from outside. People were outside the room below and were drinking. We then got talking to them and realised they were not French but from the Czech republic. Very bizarre. We threw a few balloons outside for fun and they tried to punch them back up into our room.

24344_10150156547985360_529160359_11904110_5239977_n.jpg

24344_10150156548035360_529160359_11904115_1939264_n.jpg

Richard and Ryan then decided to go down and say hello. Here be a few videos of what happened next....

So Richard has made some sort of weird impression on the Czech peeps, Ryan has been given some of their weird alcohol, Neal soaked Richard which made him run back to the room and Ryan has climbed into the room below via the window. Yeah, it really couldn't get weirder than that.

We decided to go down to the room below (they invited us) for drinking times. Before we went downstairs Richard attempted to get into Neal's room and get him back with water, however Neal had locked the door...

After his little fail we headed downstairs and this is where we all tried the very random Czech alcohol which was very strong and had a very powerful after-taste. After trying to understand each other and having lots of awkward silence moments we were interrupted by one of their friends and we headed outside. Oh yeah, these peeps were part of the large group we had spotted outside earlier in the evening. Turns out they were art history students from the Czech Republic and they were having a massive booze-up.

So we went outside and starting getting forced to drink more horrific tasting alcohol and having awkward conversations with people we didn't know, it was all rather amusing.

After a while a French lady (turned out to be the receptionist for the hotel) shouted lots of loud French which baffled all of us, there was a small chuckle and we moved to outside the hotel grounds.

We had lots of conversations with the Czech peeps about music and education "French education...terrible" lol.

After a while Richard did a massive starfish fit which resulted in him getting chased by Yelka.

Yelka came back looking amused and Richard disappeared. The rest of us continued to talk with the students and have lots of amusing conversation. After some time Richard returned....

So yeah, Richard tries to get Neal back and accidentally got Yelka a bit with the water, this angered her so she doused Richard with beer, I got hit in the head with an empty plastic bottle (bloody hurt) and then for the rest of the night Richard was concerned about Yelka being near him.

A little later and after lots of alcohol and Ryan was persuaded by Christina to do a cartwheel in the street.

Then one of the other students wanted to show off and also did a cartwheel or two...

As you can tell, he was very drunk but he had a lot of that alcohol they gave us. What was funny was that we let them try some sourz which they called the "pussy drink" :p They then went on to inform us that their alcohol was 60% vol. Which is bloody strong (I've tried some 70% but that's not the point here).

I think I should post some more pics. Peeps having a jolly time, Yelka trying on Neal's tie and a nice group photo with a dude we didn't even see until the photo was taken lol (oh yeah, that's alcohol sprayed over my top, not sure when that happened :p).

After some more time the group had started to disappear back into the hotel so we thought it may be wise to do the same. However we had issues with the front door so we walked round the hotel to find one of the student's windows to climb back through. After waking up several peeps we then climb through one unlucky couple's window (I think it may have been the first room we went into) back into the hotel.

The others started going down the corridor and I watched Yelka and Richard climb back in. Just after Richard got into the room, Yelka forced some random meat from this little plastic box into his mouth. This did not go down well and Richard legged it out of the room leaving the students amused and Yelka quite disappointed (I think she had a thing for him :p).

I walk down the corridor and there behind the door was all the other students sitting on the floor with Brad, Ryan and Neal drinking alcohol. After noticing Yelka coming towards him Richard pretended to faint and did a bloody amazing job at it too, he had all of us going and Ryan had to try and keep Christina from not panicking too much, bless.

24344_10150156548290360_529160359_11904148_4629169_n.jpg

After Yelka passed Richard miraculously awoke and spat the meat/food produce of Yelka into a plastic bag. It was all happy times again...

24344_10150156548300360_529160359_11904149_5400130_n.jpg

BUT THEN....

24344_10150156548315360_529160359_11904152_438772_n.jpg

Lol, Yelka's return resulted in us going elsewhere to hide. It was decided that the reception area would be a good plan if we were quiet. Thinking about it now though, Neal and Richard...quiet? That'll be the day. :D

So Neal got a pack of cards out and tried to teach me and Christina how to play some form of card game. After a while one of the other students, Gregory, that we got on with really well (his English was amazing) came and joined us as he wasn't allowed into his room because his room mates for the evening were getting close lol.

Then Yelka appaered out of nowhere which sent Richard, Neal and Brad into mass panic. Ryan and I just continued talking to Christina and Gregory and ignored the loud noises around us :p Yelka in her very drunken state then walked around the table, kissed me on the cheek, then I think she kissed Brad on the cheek, Neal and Richard ran away and then she kissed Ryan on the cheek (I think).

Gregory and Yelka then went outside with a few other students for fag times. Christina then went to see what was going on with some of the other students who were still sitting in that corridor. The others then decided to defend themselves with baguettes that were sitting on the side until I pointed out that there were CCTV cameras.

24344_10150156548345360_529160359_11904154_1383318_n.jpg

They then wanted to sit in the corner traumitized by their time with Yelka...

24344_10150156548390360_529160359_11904160_4806859_n.jpg

Yelka then came back in, lots of loud times happened which awoke the French lady of spite who ran into the room screaming lots of French we did not understand. We left the room quite hastily and bumped into Christina and Gregory on our way back to our rooms. We said our goodbyes and thanked them for an awesome evening.

I started making my way to the room by going upstairs but realised none of the others were following until Brad came running upstairs and collapsed.

24344_10150156548405360_529160359_11904161_1588946_n.jpg

Richard then joined him

24344_10150156548410360_529160359_11904162_6047836_n.jpg

Turns out more Yelka times occurred. Who knew?

Anyway we finally made it back to our rooms and slept quite well (I'm not surprised).

Tomorrow or Saturday I will be bringing you tales of Bagatelle times and hopefully our random credit hunt run on the UK's south coast. Thanks for reading. Your comments complete me :p

Always good to get the full story rather than the bits and pieces and trying to put them into some logical order :p

Neal teaching the Czech man to tell Richard he would not be getting credits was very full of win...

Excellent reportage John as always...

Fantastic report so far Peep!

Cant believe how fab Parc Asterix looks! Cant wait for the next installation!

I am in total shock how did you do it, I never thought I would see the day people from CF managed this.

You got Brad on a water ride :)

HAHAHAHA! Unfortunately for everyone else, we couldn't have picked a wetter ride

And with regards to my sign for the French. It said "je suis désolé, je ne parle pas français. c'est une langue stupide!"

Which roughly translates to - "I am sorry, I do not speak French. It is a stupid language!"

They all thought it pretty hilarious, but the teacher had EPIC NealRAGE! :p

Saturday 17th April 2010

Well after a rather random night with the students from the Czech Republic and an epic day at Asterix we were up an raring to go for the CF Live, April Douches at Bagatelle.

Richard, Neal and I went down to the reception area for breakfast (Brad and Ryan already there and munching on some breakfast). However French lady of spite was there and was not pleased to see Richard or Neal so we (from what we could gather from her ramblings) were not allowed breakfast. Damn it. We went back to our rooms and collected all our gear and left the hotel.

Richard came up with a quick plan for some breakfast...go to a local supermarket for cheap food. We drove down the road and came across a Lidl..win!

24344_10150156566225360_529160359_11904762_7238708_n.jpg

Yay for cheap food of nom. We then continued our journey to the park. At one point we came across a lot of traffic which made us concerned about being on time for the meet. However it didn't take very long as the traffic kept moving. So soon enough we were at the park and pleased to see that the car park wasn't too full and that the weather was beautiful (just like the Friday).

We got into the park straight away and saw no sign of the others. Some staff member put a bird on my shoulder and took a pic which was rather random, he then gave me a token to collect it later in the day (I had no intention of doing so). However after he put the bird back on his own shoulder I decided he should also have a photo taken.

At the entrance of the park is a random pedal bike course thing, we had time to spare so we all opted to have a go...

It was quite good fun and it just kept going on and on, annoyingly there wasn't any room to be able to take over or anything exciting. Shame, still a nice way to waste some time waiting for the others to arrive (who, by now, had sent a text to let us know they would be late). We then spotted a costumed character, so naturally we wanted our photo taken with it...

24344_10150156566255360_529160359_11904767_2160712_n.jpg

We still had some time to waste so to the small kids play area we went. Ryan makes it down the slide without any problems...

After a little bit of faffing we then moved on to our first ride of the day, Le Ragondingue, a spinning wild mouse coaster. Nothing special, exactly the same as all the others.

So what be up next? It be sunny so a water ride was obviously on the agenda. So it was time for...

24344_10150156566510360_529160359_11904802_7154023_n.jpg

This is a rapids ride with a proper whirlpool (never done one before). We all managed to just about fit into one boat and as soon as we got off the station ramp I could tell we were going to get very wet. There are like random channels for the water to go down in between the three sections of seating. The first rapids section and the water was going all over the place and we were already getting quite moist. The section with Neal, Vadge and Brad? had a leak so it was filling up with lots of water and was actually above their shoes at one point! Then the whirlpool happened. It builds suspense better than any Hitchcock film (which is saying a lot) and the way you slowly go further into the whirlpool the more you become aware of the sudden drop in the middle. Bloody terrifying moment and then the drop happens which is all over so soon, water all over the place and straight into a section with waterfalls either side. We got lucky and missed those quite nicely and then it quaintly goes back round to the station ramp again.

Well that one ride was enough for me. I usually have a bad omen when it comes to getting soaked on water rides, I got off very lightly on this ride and I was not going to risk it again. However the others decided to stay on for a few more goes. So yeah, as you can imagine, most peeps came off quite soaked...Especially Brad.

24344_10150156566530360_529160359_11904806_3772542_n.jpg

Some faff happened as Brad took ages emptying his shoes of all the water :p

It was then time for Le Grand-Prix. This is very similar to Disney's Autopia just on a smaller scale. It was ok just a little bit boring.

24344_10150156569085360_529160359_11904881_6144930_n.jpg

We then continued down this random pathway which led us down what was more like a forest in the middle of a theme park. This led us to the big lake where the swinging ship sits nicely at the back. However we opted out of it and continued on to the boat slide. Ian and I backed out of going on and when we saw this boat come down with two kids in it we just looked at each other with disbelief, the kids got drenched a massive wave just came up and collapsed on top of them. Feck that. No one from the group got that wet but Brad wasn't exactly helping his situation.

We then walked past the ex-location of some sort of coaster over to a horse riding attraction. CF takeover times occurred.

I was now in desperate need of a loo break but decided to wait it out a little longer. What was the next ride? A junior log flume! This was not going to help and to make it worse there was a queue. I consulted the park map for the location of the nearest loos. OMFG, they were either on the other side of the park by the lake or by the entrance of the park, how is that helpful? And people say Chessington has a lack of loos. Urgh, sad desperate times were occurring but I stuck it out.

Anyway Ryan, Neal, Richard and Ian's nephew all rode the little log flume.

They got a little moist but not by much. A coaster lurked behind us so naturally that was next (and yes I was still desperately not to piss all over the place :p). I filmed a POV...

Lunch break was called and we all headed to the place near the entrance of the park. This is also where the toilets were located so I could finally relax :p Brad and I then went to collect some stuff from the car of Rah.

We then went back to the eatery where we ordered foodage, well I managed easily enough and then Brad struggled to translate his order resulting in the man coming out to see what Brad was pointing at :p After all the fuss the food was really nice and the amount you get for your money is excellent, it's just a bit too much and I ended up throwing away half of my chips.

After foodage we made our way to the circus tent at the back of the park for the Lion and Tiger show. Now I had never seen a show featuring Tigers and Lions and was very intrigued and concerned. We got in and the cage looked very unstable etc, just not the sort of set up you would expect for massive Lions and Tigers.

24344_10150156569720360_529160359_11904941_8368183_n.jpg

The show began and I was in true shock. Most of the Lions and Tigers looked so miserable and any time the guy struck his whip at them I just got more angry at him. One of the Tigers was so pissed off with him too and I know I wasn't the only one in the audience hoping the Tiger would attack him. No wonder they hated us taking photos.

24344_10150156569725360_529160359_11904942_1185377_n.jpg

SPITE

Well after our shock from that show we needed a different type of shock. Oh yes, it was time for dodgems! Brace yourselves...

I only went on the one time but most of the others opted for several goes and kept ganging up on this one girl, who was loving the attention lol.

After lots of banging we opted for the boyzone coaster. A nice little family coaster with lots of helixes of doom and a drop into the middle of the lake. I'll explain the antics after you watch this POV...

So that little drop into the lake, well Ian and Neal had the clever idea of putting their hands into the water to spray back and soak everyone. The coaster does two laps too so on the second go round they knew what to do and even more epic wetness happened. Nicky and Vadge were very wet so only opted for the one ride.

24344_10150156572015360_529160359_11905049_1748270_n.jpg

However the rest of us went back for more Boyzone coaster. Neal planned to use his flip flops this time and Richard decided to join in on the fun. I'm just glad I was sat in front of them two as water sprayed and got everyone sitting behind them, however not as much as it sprayed the first time around.

On the second lap Richard tried a new tactic and instead of getting everyone else soaked, he got absolutely drenched. This was rather hilarious and everyone on the train was highly amused, even the French lady about 3/4 rows behind who also got soaked.

So what does everyone want to do after getting wet? Another log flume? Ok then...(well, I say everyone, I meant, Neal, Richard and Ian's Nephew)

It was now the end of Bagatelle times for Ian, Vadge, Nicky and Nathan. So we had to have a group photo. Luckily a passer by was happy enough to take the photo for us...

Amusing anecdote: French guy told us to say 'cheese' for the photo so we all shouted 'fromage' (the French word for cheese :p)

We said goodbye even though we would be seeing them again on the ferry back later in the evening. We then weren't sure what to do with our time. We had done everything we wanted to do, apart from one thing.

I wanted to do their 3D dynamic cinema but only Richard was interested in seeing it too. Neal, Brad and Ryan then sat on the grassy patch by the entrance while we went to see what it was like.

There was no queue and we walked straight in. We waited a little bit in a pre show room that was now unused while more peeps turned up. We then went in and sat down on the simulator. We had no idea how bad or good this was going to be. The lights went out, the simulator got ready and then...nothing. We sat in the dark for a min or two and then the simulator went back down and the lights came on. A door opened and the ride op apologised but it had broken down. We all remained in our seats and after about 5-10 mins the lights went back out and we jigged around a bit. Then something happened on the screen. Hurrah.

The film was like a Star Wars pod race or something which was weird as the theming for the queue and show rooms were all scary haunt themed lol. Lack of funds to complete new ride theming: Bagatelle has this. It was ok but the simulator was a few seconds ahead of what was on the screen and it really jolted around. Overall it was just a very random experience.

We then went back to the others who were sitting down sunbathing/sleeping. After looking in the shop and buying shot glasses we went back to the car.

We drove to Calais, stopping off at the big shopping centre (forget the name of it) to waste some more time before our ferry. So, what do we do when we have lots of time to spare in a big shopping centre? We play games in Toys 'R' us obviously :p

We find this basket of bouncy coloured balls so we all took a different coloured ball and hid it somewhere within the store. The person to find the most balls won. This didn't quite happen though as we were all good at hiding it but not good at finding the others so no one won after about 20 mins or searching the store lol.

We left and searched for food and drink. They had a massive Tescos dedicated to alcohol, it was amazing, shame the prices were the same as here or more expensive and that 95% of the drink they sold was wine. Oh wells. So after some time we ended back in the car and we drove down to the ferry.

Once on the ferry we met up with the others and played with Neal's new packet of Pixar Top Trumps, it is such an epic card game. When we were sat in the lounge area Vadge chose a selection of songs on the video jukebox, it was very 80s. Neal also decided to do the same. However he opted for the same song for all 6 selections. What song? 'It's Chico time' by Chico. However it wasn't played 6 times, just the once much to the amusement of the group.

Ferry times then came to an end and we drove to our next hotel. A travelodge in the middle of nowhere. We stayed up and watched Bond film, Die another day and then fell asleep (which wasn't hard despite the sleeping arrangements).

Thanks for reading and don't forget to take your towel! :D

I'll probably wait until next year, there's rumours about them getting a B&M Invert, plus Monster, and an apparent Mega-Lite too! Bring on le francais!

Asterix is about 3 hours from Calais if you use the toll road.

The Park that is getting Monster is actually over 5 hours from Calais I thought it was closer but its the other side of Paris.

Great trip reports btw and pictures, so funny seeing Brad soaking wet lol :)

By toll road do you mean that 'speed control' toll thingy?

Someone mentioned in that Monster topic that the Walygator park is about a 90 minute drive from Disneyland, so its do-able over a weekend.
