What's new

Fantasy Island UK - Turning a new leaf for 2011?

Makes you wonder why they ditched the old site, it was MUCH better. Not that it would take much.....

I got burned twice by em. I visited in 2007, and 2008 and both times I had phoned prior to make sure JO was open, and both times when I got there it was closed due to high winds.

Can't say I'm in any rush to do that again.
Shame cause JO is great, but building it on the seafront obviously was not too brainy. If JO is open is definitely worth the trip - it's very intense! But everything else there is crap and the place is a total dump.

Ha! What a website!

Second everything furie's being saying too, every year there seems to be a thread like this, but good to see that they actually HAVE refurbished lots instead of saying they're going to again.

I meant to get here last year because of the wristbands but forgot. Guess that says a lot about the place. It's hard to believe that went through a period of getting pretty large attractions very regularly but then ceased for what, about 7 years?

If you can bare to look, they now have a daily ride availability page on their website:

http://www.fantasyisland.co.uk/Rides_Open_Today.html

So far, its looking for what they said a couple of months. All be it JO only opened at the weekend just gone, but it has been open every day since.

Whilst at the minutes its not exactly perfect, but they definitely are improving already.

I went there last year, only to find that virtually the only thing open was Millenium and that didnt open until 2pm, the only thing that stopped me getting really angry is that FI is a mere hours drive from where i live, so we messed about acting like children all day riding the mouse and bumper cars lol

PS - sorry for double post but thats a really... er interesting website, having a virtually empty Odyssey on the main page? I do however commend the fact that they have an open ride list now.

I went to Fantasy Island yesterday with Andy_WSM, I havent been there since I was about 6 so around 13 Years ago. I dont remember it very well but it did seem very shabby.
Jubilee was closed everytime we tried to go on it, it appeared that they were running millenium and Jubilee on a rotational basis, of course there was no sign informing us of this.
The rides didn't appear to be well maintained, making noises where they shouldn't have been making noises and looking generally "tired".
The Toilet facilities were filthy, blocked toilets, no hot water, taps that don't stay on, driers that don't work, usual "run down park" things...

We took some pics which I or Andy will upload later.

I agree, the toilets there are gross. If you're on FB, find them and mention it on their page.

Also, there is a clock by the entrance of JO letting you know when it reopens. But obviously when annoying kids spot the clock, they just have to change the time...

Will have to do that.
We saw the clcok but i was expecting signs like they have at Oakwood saying "This ride runs on a roatational bassis with...."
The only was we figured it out was because the ride ops where the same guys whenever we went on either of the main coasters.
Also whats happen to Rhombus's Rocket? it appears to be stuck halfway around the track.

Went up to Fantasy Island today, the weather was/is awful, and has been all day, so I wasn't prepared to see anything to open, but I was wrong!

When the weather was normally as bad as this (rain, ALL day), they used close the park, but it was still open, with very few people about, we saw that Millennium was closed, but I still pulled into the car park to see what JO was doing, and she was open!! With 3 people waiting to ride, I soon made it 4! I spoke to the ride ops and they said they're running both coasters on an hourly basis, up until 10pm, so Millennium was going to open again at 7pm, then JO again at 8pm etc, regardless of how many are about.

This was great to see, as was this new entrance arch they've built with a "Welcome to Fantasy Island Theme Park" sign on, as well as park map board (not that you can really get lost there). They've also built a character stage outside JO, and have moved some kiddies rides down there. All seems very promising to me. It does seem as if they're are trying to be a proper park.

Wow! Who knows, they might even get round to replying to my email I sent them last year! A proper park would have replied within a week, but Fandumpsea Island, I'm willing to give them a year!

They haven't responded to two of mine either, but I'm just a spec of dirt compared to you Ian ;)

I've finally found out the name of the gaffer there now, I'm sure he has deliberately kept a low profile in the past, but I can't be bothered to try and contact again.

I'm pleased that rides are staying open as they boldly stated before the start of the season.

I think they may well have a new management team in this year?
